EE you found a great site. Massive stonework. Very good research to be able to find the same access the 3 were in front of. HH you were wondering where the door plates could go. At 14:48 you have an external access opening with hinge pins on the right-hand edge, I would wager that the plate is the door plate over the opening. Someone tried to salvage it and found the weight was more than they bargained for to carry down the hill. The smell of cordite from that one battle must have been overwhelming, that is 50 rounds a minute even with machineguns is lot of brass. Again, EE great site find and HH as always, an excellent video. Stay safe and well both of you.

What a spectacular place! That rifle gallery was so simple in design but clearly very effective. I can see why the Germans wanted this hilltop. EE has outdone himself on this one. No idea how you found this adventure site but there is NO question that's it's unique and probably seldom heard of. Certainly being a round fortification makes it difficult for the enemy - the result is far too many enemy wounded and /or killed. The 1st time I remember seeing anything similar was at Old Fort Henry here Canada in Kingston Ontario Canada, BUT nothing even close as elaborate. Thanks again for a great adventure. Beautiful area and from a distance you probably would not know it contained all the fortifications! Nice job EE researching this fortification and taking us on this great tour with its interesting features! It is amazing the Germans were able to conquer this place with that hail of bullets coming at them from these fortified positions! What a site. Can't even imagine 6000 rounds in 2 hrs. The Germans were initially at a disadvantage. Can't believe around 800 soldiers could be positioned there at one time. The hole does look like it might have been blasted by German artillery. Would have liked to see the original big guns there. Thanks for the photos. Good detective work, EE. That rifle gallery was humongous. It may have looked precarious, but it did withstand the signs of time, so it served its purpose. The old range finder or periscope should have been researched and put in a war museum. Just imagine the battle that went one. A lot of action occurred during that 2 hr period. What an amazing place. Those shooting galleries are just incredible. So much work went into building those unique spaces. Imagine them filled with soldiers defending the fortress from the invading Germans. The noise, the shouting, would have been deafening. It is a shame that the tunnels into the hillside are blocked, but, public safety must come first. It would have been nice to see the 12cm guns in place, but, as you say, at least they are preserved at another fortress. And that's a good thing. And the then and now photo match, actually standing on the spot of those German soldiers, that, is truly Touching History. Thank you EE for putting this all together. Young EE is really knocking it for six with his research. His eyes of the eagle are spotting some really hard to see sites from the aerial photos, and to have found a photo of the actual location with actual German officers and men is astounding. Well done, EE! And all I can say is wow! I have never heard of such emplacements, with the rifle galleries. That's such a World War One sort of thing to build lol (or maybe even before). Thank you so much for introducing me to this completely new type of fortification, EE and HH. I will say that seeing the tunnel system blocked off drives me slightly crazy as it just makes me even more curious as to what's down there; I'll bet there's some interesting artifacts still down there, despite the infestation of teenagers in the early ears hehe. All the best to you two, and this is truly shaping up to be an epic road trip indeed.

That rifle gallery tunnel just kept going and going! Very simple construction but apparently quite effective as the Germans found out. Shame they sealed up part of the tunnel system but can understand with kids constantly breaking in there. Glad you were able to get into the rifle gallery at least. Was interesting to see it from the inside and how it was constructed plus getting views from the firing ports.

I’ve never seen anything like this before. So many rifle slots. I wonder is this location was overwhelmed by the number of Germans attacking here or ran out of ammunition. The whole time you were walking in the rifle tunnels, I was think I’d like to metal detect inside and around these rifle slots. May find a cartridge case or an item from a soldier. Lookin at the gun locations you can tell that they were big guns. It was amazing that Eagle Eyes found that picture and it matched up to the door. Am so happy that Eagle Eyes got to touch that piece of history. Great job doing the research and making your dream come true and sharing it with us Eagle Eyes.

WOW!! I can't imagine the time that was spent to make that "fortress". All those granite type rocks used,the bricks for the roof, oh my gravy!!! I loved seeing that; very different and unique. nice video. Okay dude, now instead of some poor "dude" carrying bags of cement up a nasty incline, now you've got (in 1902) some poor dude being forced to move cut blocks of rock into place (not about wet cement anymore or bags of gypsum) and each block looks to be a good size and weight. 1902 technology (model T) and later, not 2023.
