I bought some of them; so far, I like them. They're better than the FAB pedals I'm replacing. The Crunch sounds like the FAB metal but with less treble and more pleasing midrange, the US Dream has a sound all its own (more mids and less treble than the FAB metal; more cream and less crunch), the chorus is more crisp than the FAB chorus, and I'm just waiting on the analog delay to compare it to the FAB echo. The Dream has a heavy sound when dimed; a bit noisy, but monstrous. They're all pretty pleasing to the ears; it's a nice break from the ear-bleed and hearing fatigue I was getting from the FAB pedals. I look forward to seeing what kind of recorded sound I can get out of them.

Things like this bring me back to a really cool science experiment done based around violins. A Stradivarius violin is a violin made by a member of the Stradivarius family. For years experts claimed they had unmatched sound and scientists couldnt figure out why. So they decided to do a blind test by having dozens of experts listen to violins blindly and they chose which one sounded best. Very few of the experts blindly chose the Stradivarius violins. This resulted in many more experiments that proved we hear things differently based on our existing opinion of that thing. people tend to be more moved by a violins sound when they know it was crafted by a legendary craftsman but when they have no clue what violin it is they hear it differently. I feel like if some of these cheap pedals were played in a blind test next to high quality ones they would fare better than most people would give credit for. Im a budget oriented guy. I grew up poor and now i take care of my parents in their failing health. Cheap things like this mean the world to me and knowing that there are fairly quality budget options makes me feel good.

Suddenly, I find myself "pedal curious" to paraphrase your awesome comment regarding phasers. I watched this about 3 times and then I went ahead and ordered all of them, because, well...20 bucks! They all sound really good, IMHO. Oh, and regarding the nasty fellow who said that outlandish and crazy thing about R. Williams and glass in hamburgers, he's got issues. I think the breakout star is the phaser, which is pretty well all you need with its one knob. The chorus could be improved a lot with a mix knob, which would allow subtle chorusing or straight up vibrato. For me, the default mix is too much wet signal.

I thought the Phaser was the worst of the bunch. The MXR Phase 90 makes it look like a $20 pedal. It's hardly audible and completely lacks a full phase. Also, dialed all the way to the right, it sounds more like a tremolo than a phaser. Don't like that one at all!

I just got the saphue versions of US Dream, Ultimate drive and vintage phase. The high-low switch on the drive is backwards but no big deal for $17.99. I like it so far, does not drop out the bottom like a tube screamer or boss OD-1/SD-1, and it works well as a bass overdrive, at least at low volumes, I can't crank up here. I agree the US dream is a bit muffled, but it is good enough with the tone set high. I decided to try it after another video where You said you were starting to like it, and saw how well it stacked with the ultimate drive. Stacking the 2 is awesome, though you have to back the gain down a tad because there is this weird helicopter noise when stacking if the gain on the US dream is dimed, or there is more than just a touch of drive on the ultimate drive. The ultimate drive cranked up is a good distortion in its own right but the us dream takes it into the realm of high gain, and I prefer a pedal that is a bit on the warm side but smooth, rather than bright but harsh. Ideally like a pedal that can go harsh with tone up but tames up with the tone backed down to 3 o clock, like most boss pedals, yet is also smooth. But for $17.99 I am not about to return the US dream and keep looking. It is a good tone to have even if I get something better. I am wanting a metal pedal and the stack of UD and USD gets there just without a bass knob for that extra chug, but it chugs well enough as is, which is why I am happy with it so far. As for the phaser, I put it in front and found it to be barely audible, so definitely not as strong as a real phase 90 that EVH used in front of his amp. BUT when I put it after dirt like I normally would run a phaser, it is exactly what I wanted, albeit with a slight cut in top end. Again $17.99. Not fatal flaws. The fatal flaw was the azor reverb (the brown one you like), first thing was the dwell is way too long at lowest setting, I was considering living with that until I noticed a boost of level and treble when I turned it on. I did some testing and determined it is not true bypass, and when it is off it sucks tone and level. That won't fly and it is going back to Amazon. Another one from this order that is going back is the azor bass eq. It is true bypass and works like it should, with a fatal flaw. The level at its lowest is almost unity, and with any sliders up, even a little, it is always a boost. That is a no go for an eq pedal. All but 7 of my pedals were stolen and this was to replace my brown boss bass eq, and won't work. Bezos can have that back too. That's the thing about these cheap pedals. Some have fatal flaws that make them unusable in real applications.

Hey! These are $20 pedals. I regularly see dudes demo $3-500 pedals on KZbin. You can't expect these ones to be as great as the super pricey ones. But to the Average Guitar player I think the cheap ones are okay. I know that's how I think. I once had a signed Zvex pedal, cost $400. It didn't really make me sound any better, and I'm not bad either. I sold it for more than I paid and was glad I did considering it was a lot of dough.

Ryan, the boost on tremolo pedals is to prevent the volume drop and thats is an issue on a big part of the old boss TR2, and thats because you are actually hearing half of the signal. Thas why AnalogMan Piera do some mods on the some TR2 to fix that, rising and adjusting some of the volumen.

Thanks a ton for posting this review of "cheap" pedals. I wound up purchasing the Saphue versions Ultimate Drive, Analog Chorus, Digital Delay and Vintage Phase. Man, they reinvigorated my playing! Not that I play any better, but all the sound combinations keep me more interested in picking up the guitar and exploring new dimensions of sound! I just received the Crucnh Distortion - from the slow boat from China - that I bought based on this review! It's a super fun pedal! I play mostly jazz related stuff, so I don't use a lot of overdrive, and even less distortion, and when I do a good old TS usually is more than enough for me. But every now and then an occasion arises where you need a crazier-over-the -top-high-gain-sound and that's where this pedal comes in handy! I think it sounds amazing in the high-gain regions, especially when you think it costs only 20 bucks! It does that really compressed pumping-rhythm thing with tone backed off and the more nasal Ratty-Marshallish high gain thing with the tone half way up. Sustain is almost endless! And amazingly when you max the gain and you play full barrée chords it doesn't even become a nasty blurry distortion mash, but some note definition and string-separation stays intact! I am really, really impressed by this cheap little bugger!

I have both the KMISE and SAPHUE Crunch. They are exactly the same pedal, except the SAPHUE is $15. They sound like very much like my early 90s RAT, with a bit more gain and little mid-scooped. But the texture and depth of the distortion is consistent with a RAT. Pretty much every 'budget' distortion/OD pedal(and a lot of expensive ones) is some kind of modded RAT/TubeScreamer circuit, because they're practically public domain, at this point. What I mean is, Im not really familiar with a Crunch Box and while this maybe meant to emulate one, I suspect its RAT distortion circuit, modded to sound like it. For all I know the Crunch Box might be a RAT circuit, too?

I bought the kmise overdrive, which is a tube screamer clone. Only flaw is common in TS clones, which is the tone potentiometer curve, that has most of its effectiveness in the last 10 per cent of its course. Aside from that, it's a pretty decent and solidly built pedal.

Ok? Just because you heard about them in a specific group doesn't mean you have to, for some unknown reason, use that type of guitar to demo the product. That's just plain illogical. I don't have a Les Paul but I'm still a member of Les Paul forums because I like to know about a wide range of instruments. If I heard about a pedal there and told someone that, there's no logical reason whatsoever for them to expect me to use a LP to demo the pedal for them. 🤷‍♂️ Absolutely none.

The tremolo pedal doesn't have any "sparkle". The issue here is your "true bypass" signal because you are not using a buffer, so when you turn on this pedal, the guitar signal comes to life.

I actually thought they all sounded good. The trem is probably doing the tremo channel of a Fender, which had a treble boost. My concern would be the durability. It also seemed a few of the pots had a drastic change with only a small arc, especially at the lowest settings. Still, very cool little pedals

I think your examples and info are spot on. When i first started buying pedals it was a big choice and usually took all i had. Back in the early 80's. For $20 a pop you cant go wrong.
