We did that stretch - Hillmorton to Braunston tunel last year. It was also a few days before the Braunston Festival, and it was a squueze to get the boat through as other boats were double moored both sides.

Thanks Alan. This was a lovely reminder of when we went to Springwood Haven marina to have my solar panels fitted. There are some great stretches of canals around there but they seem to have insisted on using those wretched shallow edging stones as if to ward off any easy mooring...
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Many thanks Dave, it’s very frustrating not being able to moor up so easily, when you want to, either for a break or at the end of the day! Glad you enjoyed.

Thanks for your lovely vlog. I always get a bit anxious about lock ladders as I always need to use them to get the back of my boat alongside so I can get in or out. My last vlog was about issues for single handed boaters. Look forward to your next vlogs as I really want to do the Ashby myself. Cheers.

Nice video and nice to see the bit we didnt get to see on the left side of Braunston. We went through the festival there but you couldnt moor anywhere near it. Felt maybe it was a destination to do in the car.
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul. I would think it’d be a nightmare to visit by boat. If I do get along next year it would be by car.

Knowing nothing about narrowboating (amongst many, many other things), are you allowed to temporarily swap marina moorings with other boats so that you can explore new canals without having to travel back to your home mooring each time? Thanks again for another enjoyable vlog.
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
C Cooper - Many thanks glad you enjoyed. I’m not aware of any arrangements to do that. If you moor with a company that has several Marinas, I believe you have the benefit of using all of them.

Good morning Very enjoyable to watch thank you, you showed narrowboat Wrekin at Union canal carriers, we hired that boat last year and went up the Oxford and to our first locks at hillmorton, we had a lovely time. We had a problem with scratches on the Oxford, it was my wife scratching her head at the locks. Was it the surveyor coming out when you saw the cracked bridge? Would you feel happy pitching a tent under it
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Hi Lewis. I scratched my head at Hillmorton because the paddle ratchets worked in a different way to what I’m used to. There are lots of cracked bridges about and some interesting movement on the Ashby bridges. If any were in urgent need of attention, I’m sure they would be attended to. Wouldn’t pitch my tent underneath as I’d get wet te he!

can you show us inside your boat ? I like to see how narrowboaters live .how do you cook?
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Hi Vicki. I am planning at a later stage to do a video on my boat, which will cover the inside. Boats have the same facilities as a house though toilets need emptying. Cooking is by Stoves Vanette gas cooker and there is a 4 burner gas hob.

Thank you for sharing your journey. Question regarding the hire boat, "Explorer." None of the hire boat companies I've contacted will rent to a solo sailor. Were you able to rent Explorer as a solo sailor or did you have company on your test drive?

Another enjoyable voyage! Thank you, Alan. I've noticed comments in other boaters vlogs about the Oxford being shallow. Just out of curiosity, what is the draft of your boat? Cheers, Zach.
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Zach. My draft is quoted as 0.485m fully laden. About 1’6”. I think it’s in next week’s episode, you’ll hear the bottom of the boat ground on something whilst I’m travelling. Cheers
@AZC19495 жыл бұрын
@@MyNarrowboatVenture That is shallow draft. The North Oxford must be very silted. Time to dredge!
