You always catch so many other boats in your films! Very nice and that plane doing loops was 😎
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie. I think people like to see boats passing. It’s a shame I couldn’t catch more of the planes but needing to point skywards and steer the boat doesn’t work very well.

Glorious video.. I remember that stretch well.. I seem to recall the stretches ahead being very bereft of suitable mooring spots.. I will soon see if my memory serves me well... 🍷🍷

Another great vlog Alan. We've just moved up to the new North Kilworth Marina and I must say that I found the GU:Leicester section a pleasure to cruise on with quite a few places to moor. Like you we had difficulty mooring on the northern Oxford Canal and we also found ourselves going a lot further than we wanted to.

Many thanks Dave, hope you settle in well at N Kilworth.

Hi, the building works that are happening around Hillmorton are a new housing development called Houlton which is being built on the former Rugby Radio Station mast site. Glad I've found your channel!

14:18 "Haven't really been clock-watching" reminds me of an early narrowboat vlog I watched where the guy said "it's now 3 o'clock on Friday... Saturday... um, not really sure what day it is but it's definitely 3pm-ish give-or-take". If you are onboard at present I hope you are coping with this fantastic weather.

Newbold tunnel doesn’t just have one footpath, it has two, although the one on the offside is gated off. I think it used to have lights in there but I’ve not seen them on. If you use Canal Route Planner, it adds a note at the end of the itinerary to say that the tunnel is two way.
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
The sign at the tunnel says two way but it does seem some boaters prefer to wait. It felt as though space was limited going through it. Cheers

Thanks for your messages Barry. We’ve gone from the hottest day ever a few days back to continual rain, it hasn’t stopped for about 36 hours or more. The filming was done some weeks back when we had a good spell. And your weather is hotter than usual for your time of year. Best wishes. Alan

Hi, As usual I really enjoyed your vlog, a really nice insight into your trip, thank you. I wondered, (when the boat scrapped the bottom near the bridges), if some depth gauge instrument could be retro-fitted to the bow of the boat to give a warning of objects in the water or shallow depth. When I have hired boats in Florida all of them have had depth gauges? Just a thought, really enjoy your presentations!
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Hi David. Glad you liked the vlog, thanks for your kind comment. To be honest, I’m not sure how a depth gauge would help. Many canals are very shallow, can’t see how knowing the actual depth would help, as you have no alternative other than to carry on. There’s no space to skirt around as the canals are not very wide. Cheers
@lynnbigner5705 жыл бұрын
Beautiful and peaceful in spite of all the traffic. If you can't find a mooring canal side can you pull into a marina for the night?
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Hi Lynn, that would be a possibility if there was one nearby, as most Marinas will have visitor moorings. However, one would have to pay for the privilege, so unless you need the security, it’s best to moor canal side for an overnight stop.

Alan, I am only a few minutes into your vlog, but curiosity causes me to ask what your NLE (video) software is?
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Hi Zach. I use Pinnacle Studio 22 Ultimate. A few days after my session, a patch was issued but I couldn’t find a description then of what it was for. I didn’t notice any performance change. Must look again. NLE??
@AZC19495 жыл бұрын
@@MyNarrowboatVenture Non-Linear Editor. The "linear" way is 2, or more, VCR's running through a controller. The story is laid to a tape in a linear fashion. NLE's made life a lot easier! Video Editing was my last paid career. Though a chemist by choice, I did film, which I hated editing, and video, which I enjoyed editing, as hobbies. When I left my last Lab position, I had a chance to work in the video production field, which I jumped at. I have a very old copy, 1998, of Pinnacle Studio software that only works in Windows 98! I also used a high-end Pinnacle effects generator in linear editing. Most of the time, though, I was the NLE guy. Cheers, Zach.

Hi Zach. That’s a bit too complex for me but you’ve had an interesting and varied choice of employment. I had wanted to work in the film industry but back in the early 70s the British industry was pretty much on its knees.
