They are investments more than residences. That's why chinese billionaires are buying NYC real estate like crazy, it's a safe place to put their cash, it's essentially inflation proof, and long term the demand will outstrip the supply.

I've cleaned all the glass inside and out, on this and nearly every one of the houses and businesses in Aspen and all along the Roaring Fork. Some of them are really impressive in some aspects, most seem like mere show pieces that don't feel as though they'd be comfortable to live in. Money wealth rarely translates into practicality or good taste.

They had good enough taste to hire you... They're the only reason most of us have for getting to live here. Delete Aspen and their ugly homes, and most of the jobs in the valley would be gone. Cleaning windows though? That sounds very difficult up there! Somehow I see lots of window cleaning videos on here and they have to do some pretty sketchy things sometimes getting to the high ones! It's been three years since you commented, are you still doing it?

The realtor here, Craig Morris, has in impressive story about landing in Aspen as a bartending ski bum....then becoming the go to guy for luxury real estate

Interesting . I was just watching an interview here on KZbin with Jill st. John talking about Aspen and how wonderful it was when she first came there in 1959 when there was only one main street that was paved and all the other roads were dirt roads and how it was only older buildings and Victorian buildings... she even says there were packs of dogs.... I love how she says back then everybody could afford to live there and the parties were great because it was a classless society . She talks about how wonderful and down-to-earth it was and how older wealthy people kept a low profile and that you usually could not tell who the rich ones were... she talks about how much it has changed and that the rich nowadays want to make sure everybody knows that they are very rich and how it used to be you would go to a party and she would just wear slacks and a blouse but that nowadays everybody at the parties is wearing sequins and dripping in jewels . You could tell she really misses how it used to be before it became a glitzy glamorous playground for the rich . That interview is here if you just look for Robert Wagner and Jill st. John Aspen . I think I would have loved to have seen Aspen back when it was like the way they described it . It makes me sad when nice places become impossible for regular people to live there that is really such a sad thing and it is happening more and more everywhere where people who grew up in a certain place can no longer afford to live there unless they are rich

Everything in Aspen is absurdly overpriced. Name/Location is the only real value there and that's unstable. It has a name to be high quality but there are much better quality "things" to be acquired for vastly less $ in places more beautiful by far than what is found in Aspen. That being a fact, It's still one of my favorite places to live.

If you are rich you should be smart. For example why spend $65 million on a house that isn't custom to your wants and needs. Next why would you make someone else a huge profit off of you. When you are rich or wealthy it is cheaper an a whole lot better to custom build your own mansion for a helluva lot cheaper. For example Tom Brady an Gisele Bundchën custom built their California mansion for $20 million dollars. And sold it for $50 million to Dr.Dre. Its always cheaper an better to build your own house to your exact wants an needs a pay millions of dollars cheaper than buying from someone else. I've watched and learned for years how the housing market works companies that build middle class homes typically spend around $150,000 or less on a new built home an then sell it for $275,000 or more turning in a great profit. Moral of the story build your own home...

Waste of money. If it was worth keeping they'd keep it til the day they die. Imagine the bs property taxes too, which btw are reason to not build luxurious: the more you invest in a locale by building something from whence there was nothing the more you are punished. #whoisjohngalt
