I would just keep mining and ignore them entirely, but it seems mining lasers won't fire in combat mode and turrets won't fire in analyse mode. In and out of game documentation on how turrets work is not super clear.

Good Info. I have been playing for a long time and did not know about the mining bonus in the res sites. I have done a lot of mining and the common thought was always to avoid the res sites by dropping into the rings in an unmarked location.

ResH vs overlapping painite hotspots, easy to find - I did a run with a shieldless T9 last night, 12 collector limpets, dropped in, waited for usually pirate scan, after he get away I did my mining run, watching a movie, without stress or any risk. Got 640tones in 70 minutes. No combat involved. No risks. Going in a ResH mean assuming HUGE risks, especially if you go alone, like I did. ResH mean more than half of your compartments are for shields, SCB.s, fighter hangar ; a big chunk of your power output will be lost in shields and weapons, so I cannot do 3 class 2 mining lasers like I like, without break. So, the whole concept of going on ResH is flawed, imho - is not worth, especially if you are alone - in this case, is even a bad idea, looking at much better alternatives - overlapping hot spots, in quiet places... where also must be a big bonus of rich stones... Just have some common sense - what good brings a 100% boost if you lose half ( or more !) of your cargo capacity, you have reduced power for mining lasers, and you risk losing the ship AND the cargo ?!

I’ve recently outfitted a type 10 for this very purpose. I essentially do it for the fun, I found a platinum hot spot with a res site, pays a little better than painite right now. It’s a ton of fun with SLF, and the buff/bonus to mining is just an added boon. o7

wouldn’t a Type 10 be perfect for HAZ RES mining? The most hardpoints of any ship in the game allows for lots of turreted weapons while leaving space for mining lasers. Also loads of utilities for point defence and shield boosters. Also the cargo space. And a a fighter hanger to boot. Seems that this is the niche Role for the T-10.

For laser-mining, the depletion is per rock (and per commander since each commander can get their own set of fragments from a rock). The cooldown for each used to be 2 hours, but FDev changed this to 3 hours approximately 3 months ago.

Nope. The hotspot influences the procedural generation of rock contents, but the RESs apply bonuses to the fragment count range and fragment content range. So together they can be helpful, but not required.

@@crashtest4585 Pristine reserves and a Metallic ring at the minimum. If there are two rings, Metallics are usually a narrow inner ring. A Painite hotspot or overlap will help, of course, but you have to be careful to ignore the ones in Metal-Rich rings since you can't laser-mine it in those (same for Platinum).

This is a lot of risk now for very little reward, totally not worth it. Literally just do Robigo Mines. Passenger missions in a cheap ass python pulls in 150m an hour. No pirates, no law, just money. Painite, just like every other mineral has been nerfed out of the sky. It's just not worth it unless you already have an FC. Because what's the average price of Painite? 230k each. A full hour of mining pulls in what? 150m. One or two miners a day usually sells all of the Painite at the 600k mark, in like a run, because there's only ever 300-600 demand in the entire galaxy at that price. Or you can run Robigo, make the same money, and go on with your day.

In just a few days I made 5b doing them, now I can do whatever I want. Of course what happens when you do that is you realize other than doing boring PVE combat missions, and seeing the same solar system over and over again, there's nothing left to do in the game.

@@Rich-pj9wv you need an engineered FSD, and pretty well maxed passenger cabins. I only have two jumps to the atmospheric desto. Takes me right at 10 minutes to do the round trip. Without the engineered FSD it takes 12-13 minutes, which means only 120m an hour, but that's still good.

Obscene amount of Painite but with current prices it still doesn't reach the levels we were used to prior to the nerf. Which I'm pretty sure we have KZbinr Commander Exigeous to thank for the nerf. As one of the most-followed Elite Dangerous KZbinrs, he went on multiple rants that Frontier needed to "balance" credit earning in the game. His contention was that high skill/risk activities should pay the same, or more, than low skill/risk ones. What he failed to realize was that high skill/risk = fun. While low skill/risk activities are boring. So very boring. Many a commander would find themselves contemplating self destruction while spending hours laser mining to get the credits they needed. But that was the price you had to pay to get the monies. Since the nerf, this is the first time laser mining has even come close to the earning potential it used to promise. (And it still falls short of what it used to... current Painite prices are around 250k/Ton while previously prices would reach almost 4 times that). Maybe this is the compromise. RES sites, like other instances in Elite, tend to get "farmed-out" of NPC's after about 30 minutes or so. Outfit a ship capable of farming the NPC's in a HAZRES but also capable of switching to mining once they've been dealt with. I'm not sure the viability, though. A lot of the current "good" painite prices are at stations with medium pads meaning the largest ship you can use would be a Python (unless you own a fleet carrier which you can transfer your painite to for sale at a small station later).

Tried to tell you last time, mining has been ruined. Started this game way too late. All you vets enjoy your 4 hour ground motherships and billons of dollars credit piles. Us late bloomers will just not play the game because the grind has become so disgusting it's pathetic. From them removing board flipping and making the Fed/Imp grind unbearable with a stable sane mind, to mining nerfed into the ground this game has 0 fun left. Odyssey isn't VR and they haven't even answered if we can interact with each other if we don't pay for their beta. Sad to say, but this game is killing itself, and fast. I'll be extra clear to any "cmdr" thinking they are going to chime in with some comment to change my mind, don't. You obviously got to take advantage of this game long before these miserable changes have been put into play and you don't need to do any of the things that make this horrid. I know years ago it was worse, but they made the changes they did to FIX the game, so, that isn't a valid argument either. Just don't.

actually I did the federal rank grind after the 'nerf' hit as you said. I did it with a burning federal station and it took me 540 stacked passenger missions and 200 stacked savage mission and was done after 2.5 days while I did a lots of other stuff also in the same period. I am doing also at least 150 million an hour mining and flying in a wing with squad mates hunting pirates in hi rez also brings up to 120 million an hour. But I don't care for the credits. I do just a couple of mining runs a month and donate up to 1200 tons a month to streamers and community events / incentives. I really do not understand your problem, sorry.
