I remember when I first watched the production diary of them 'announcing' Son of Kong and being so excited for it throughout 2006. I kept wondering for a year when it was coming out and why we wern't hearing anything about it. Then came the huge disappointment when I discovered I'd been hoodwinked upon looking at a internet forum on the subject :(

I know this is an April Fool’s Day review of an April Fool’s Day idea for sequels, but like James Rolfe I would be quite curious at the results, especially for how batshit crazy they go. But yeah, they would be as schlocky B pictures as big budget blockbusters can get and wouldn’t measure up to the triumph of the 2005 film.

I actually wrote a Disney version of King Kong on Disney Fanon Wiki. I won't reveal the specifics, but Kong survives, and I am considering writing a sequel that is based on Son of Kong with some mixed in plot elements from Kong: King of Skull Island (specifically Gaw and the Death Runners).

I considered King Kong 2: Son of Kong and King Kong 3: Into the wolf’s lair, as cancelled movies. Well King Kong 2: Son of Kong was scheduled to be released in June 2006 and King Kong 3: into the wolf’s lair is also scheduled to be released in December 2006, It’s kind of disappointed that both movies never release it’s because it was a April fools joke. Imagine if universal making both sequels to Peter Jackson’s King Kong that will be cool or really bad.

I kinda once contemplated the idea of a 'sequel'. It's set in modern times and the event of '33' is acknowledged to have happened. (original or 05 version, it's still valid). What happened to Kong's body? Well...(sorry if this is gross)...they stuffed him and placed him in a museum, along with his skeleton. And that's where the story comes in: See, some guy wants to create the perfect park and he decides to clone Kong back to life by using the DNA from the stuffed Kong and the bones, and creates a PERFECT copy of Kong, to be used as a tourist attraction...at least until he breaks free, and goes on a rampage. I'm not sure what would happen next, but there is an idea of a granddaughter of Jack and Ann involved, the guy that cloned him might be related to Carl, or just be someone new, or was a big fan of Denham, and the biggest thing for the climax....Kong does battle with an EVIL 'back-up copy' of Kong and they do battle with one another. Basically ape vs ape with a crap ton of destruction and causalities Whatever people here likes this idea, or just think it's total sh*t, I don't mind since it might not happen and it's just a silly idea to make.

If I'm right, Kong Skull Island was supposed to be a prequel to the 2005 film, but when Warner Bros. found a way to get the character away from Universal to make their monsterverse, they took the film project with it.

If Peter Jackson wasn't pulling a April Fool's joke with his Son of Kong "remake" he couldve easily done a better job than the people who made the original Son of Kong. That movie (Son of Kong 1933) wasn't terrible but it was a movie that just never going to be as the original, plus the studio RKO forced the movie into production in a few weeks after King Kong 1933 was released.

I only feel like those sequels ideas would’ve been better suited as sequels for the 96 film. But, for my taste, if they wanted to do a sequel they should’ve based on the “Kong: King of Skull Island” book. It came out at the same time. Also, on the Burton Batman comics, that didn’t happen. They approached DC with the idea, but DC and WB never really forgave Burton for what he did in Returns so they said no. They were scared that the comics reception might’ve been similar to Batman Returns reaction when it first released (that’s why Burton didn’t do Batman Forever, or as he wanted to call it “Batman Continues”. No joke).

I would have loved to see this movie would become a Thing, although i would probably have replaced the nazi mutants with a juvinile Gaw, also i seriously don't get the hate for King Kong lives, i still Think it's a criminally underated monster movie, also the animated series isent that bad, it did it's own Thing, and I liked the idea of Kong with a bit of a sci fi twist, but Hey, i see where you Are coming from

If they did make a sequel to the 05 film , they should make based/inspired from the “skull island reign of king” ride. Plot: a research group ask Carl , Jack , and Ann. Possibly Preston Jimmy Englehorn to go back to skull island and help them gather research/discoveries on the island before it sinks. They find another Kong, things go south , have fight dinosaurs/ possible human bad guys , and escape the island before it sinks.
@ethandoyle4978

I admit , the nazi Dino hybrids is a little too much but if they kept the story focused on skull island , and have it based off the book “skull island the world of Kong” , and the universal studios ride “skull island reign of king” i think that would be a much better and respectable sequel!

Tho I honestly 100% agree that the 2005 King Kong does not and should not need a sequel. I however do think Kong has an idea for a franchise in general in my opinion. I mean let’s not forget Willis O’Brien wanted King Kong vs Frankenstein to be a thing. I mean there could an alternate universe that actually does have these films and Kong’s franchise would be as popular as Godzilla’s tho. But I still see your points. Sometimes a franchise laying dormant and not getting any big changing movies is for the best. I mean just look at Star Wars. Imo before Disney acquired it, the fanbase was way more clam and collected compared to now where everything is a crap show.

Tbh, I think having nazis as villains is cliche and overdone, I get that they've done messed up stuff back in the '40s, but there need to be original ideas. Unless your fictional story takes place during WW2 then maybe, but having nazis in an actual WW2 film is a must because they existed in that time period. I will say this fake sequel sounds really clever and it does fit into the time period the remake was set in. The nazis would do something like that after all, but like you said having guns on monsters is dumb and very cartoony. I'd still rather want that 1996 version of Jackson's Kong story! maybe that old script should have been recycled for an actual proper and good sequel, but set the story in the '90s, and make the new Kong as the actual last of it's kind. This new Kong was just an orphan baby during the 1933 events and is now grown up and is older. Everything else in the 1996 script could be kept the same.

Before I start, I I mean no disrespect. I do enjoy your content, but I do want to say that “the shape of water” was meant as a reflection of xenophobia. And making it similar to Gilman was more or less how people at that time viewed others who were different from the norm in the 60’s. If you didn’t like the film, that’s fine. I personally loved it. And Guillermo del Toro’s acceptance speech was really inspirational to those who want to make movies. As for the son of Kong films, I actually agree with you. While on their own they could be entertaining in a guilty pleasure sort of way, but as a follow up to the peter Jackson remake not only would the tone be completely off, but like you said, it would be a financial risk. I actually remember seeing something about that sequel and though I thought it would have been cool, I knew it would have been too good to be true. it would be like the original idea for Jurassic park 4 where it would have featured human/dinosaur hybrids that would have been used for warfare, except where the King Kong sequel was a joke, to my knowledge the Jurassic park idea was going to happen until it was rightfully rejected at the pitch meeting.

Don't get me wrong I loved The Shape Of Water. Great film, but the comparisons to Creature are inevitable and pretty obvious visually. The movie also felt like a very light nod of Exploitation films of the 60s. I was just making a joke about it being the Creature porno. XD

Great story. Great video. It would be wonderful to see this movie come to life someday. If you like Peter Jackson's movies, I recommend that you watch District 9 (2009), which is a great alien movie that is not really your typical alien invasion type of film. Wingnut Films and Peter Jackson produced the film and Neill Blomkamp directed it.

Doing research on this episode I discovered due to PJ's relationship working on the King Kong Video Game with Microsoft that he was a massive fan of Halo and wanted to persue a film adaptation and hired Neil to direct since he was working on The Lovely Bones, but due to Hollywood politics, Universal and Microsoft pulled the plug on Halo and they made District 9 instead and much like Kong96 it would have made a great movie imo.
