Joe, spend six months in South Korea. I lived there with my mom for six months. She was stationed in Daegu, and we got to go to Seoul a couple times. It's an absolutely phenomenal experience. Not only is English not the primary language, the primary language isn't based off any kind of Western language. It's off-putting at first, but incredibly eye opening. You see that we are all one and the same, deep down inside, even when you can't understand. The important things, compassion, friendliness, openness, those can still be deciphered in the eyes and face. And you find that we all want to be understood, despite whatever barriers seem to be keeping it back.

the finnish basic income experiment is awfully flawed. it's tested on a small sample size of people who already were on income support and not on people who already do work or are entrepreneurs.
@bluelobster567 жыл бұрын
Branch but I hope the people who work or are entrepreneurs are already making more than the basic income, so they don't qualify? (I know, not a given these days... 😒 )
@MuffinHop7 жыл бұрын
they are but for some the amount received from the job is not enough to live here and basic income could supplement that.
@joescott7 жыл бұрын
I think Norway is trying it too.
@christophercanon51527 жыл бұрын
The problem I see with basic income is the rich will have massive power by then, and because they will control all production, media, everything, it's unlikely it will stay. And we can look into how they're and have been dismantling the new deal since the 70s, so I have to conclude it's only a temporary fix even if we could get that passed. The only way I see the common people surviving is getting rid of private property. Not making it state property either, but simply public. Order what you want and need online, everything is autonomous.
@gamercatsz54417 жыл бұрын
+Christopher Canon You describe a recource based economy. Where you manage the available recources sustainably. It is insane that people are afraight of the idea that you don't have private property. In a world where everything just is available, why would you even want to own stuff? for example: If an autonomous tesla-car would stop at my doorstep (like an uber) at my convenience, why would I want to own my own private car? The world of technology is changing drasticly, and an RBE would be a great sollution to keep up with the evolution

The spacetime of the universe is indistinguishable from being flat. It means that the universe "may" be flat, or it might be massive. If you were to mark out a square foot on the surface of earth, it might appear to be flat by mathematical measures, but if you were to even just map out a 20x20 mile square block on the surface, the curvature would be apparent. There is a bit of a disconnect between mathemtatical models saying that the overall universe being filled with "stuff" should have a curvature to it, often times described as a "saddle shape" when when the curvature of spacetime is measured, it isn't outside of our margin of error to determine if it has a shape outside of being flat. The most popular explanation for this is simply that the "observable" universe is but a tiny fraction of the total size of the universe. The alternative is that the universe is flat, and we have no idea if there is something beyond what is visible to us. Long story short, it falls squarely in the fringe theory category, as there just isn't sufficent evidence to conclusively say one theory is correct, but personally I like to assume that the universe is larger and more mysterious than we generally would assume based on simple observation, and that would lend me to beleive the more likely outcome is that we can only see a tiny fraction of the actual universe, and beyond our galactic horizon is a much much larger universe that we cannot see simply because there hasn't been enough time for the light from those galaxies to be observable to us. The speed of light is a bit of a curse when it comes to being a space fairing civilization.

Blueberry! Yes, I'm a rebel. Also, ion drives use fuel. At least if you consider inert reaction mass to count as fuel. It needs tanks of stuff either way. If you don't count inert reaction mass, then you still need fuel if you want higher thrust, because there's only so much energy you can get out of solar radiation, especially further from the sun, so you'll still need to carry the energy with you as fuel for some kind of power plant. Unless you beam the energy to the craft using lasers. But that kind of infrastructure would take a whole new space industry to develop, which might happen, but it will take a lot of time and resources.

Old video so you might not see this but if a bucket list item is to live for 6 or more months somewhere that the language is not your native language, I also suggest somewhere very culturally different. I spent the first half of the 1990s living in Korea - a place I arrived at with no knowledge of the language or culture - other than a few racist things a Japanese guy I'd met had told me - and turned a 1 year plan into 5 plus a marriage that is coming up on 25 years because it was such an enlightening experience.

Ion drives do require fuel to run, it uses xenon. (technically it's not fuel it's a propellant because it does not provide energy it's just something to push against so you are technically right :D) But to say that their should be more engines that don't use fuel is misleading because no current engines can do that and there seem to be good reasons for why they would be impossible.
