Great analysis at the end! The main thing 6 ARC brings to the table is you can have that ~10% higher hit ratio over the 5.56 without needing a new gun. As you said, you can just perform the “long range equivalent of a pit stop,” and swap out the uppers when you want to push to 800 or beyond plus have the “x-factor” of confidence in making hits. Sweet video. The dude abides.

Hey Triple M, I appreciate your video format and the content you target. I have both the 6 ARC in an 18" barrel and the 223 wylde in the 18" barrel and both of them are mid length Gas Systems. I do believe the Arc is a 1 in 7 twist. and the Wylde is a 1 in 9 twist. I have personally concluded that the velocity on impact through the 18" Barreled 223 wylde (using only 1 type of ammunition, 69 grain Sierra Matchking) is combat effective PUSHING it at 650 yards, while still maintaining minimal adjustments for moderate wind which for such a light round is comfortable for me. 800 and out as I have suspected and now seen from your documentation and commentary that from that round, becomes more of a lob with significant reduction of energy on target and less reliable... not so great for wound cavity, but good for the occasional gee wiz attempts. I built my 6mm Arc to further my Combat effective range outside of that 650 for "CE" range. I have had to take pause on dialing in my ARC due to situational incapability of finding the ranges needed to shoot that system. So your information regarding 6 arc (though it be a 14.5" barrel) I find very useful. I enjoy your content, so I happily wave to you as your southern neighbor! Keep it up good sir!

Learned so much! 77gr. 5.56 is impressive. Maybe I don’t have to rush out and build a 6mm ARC after all. Now I have to research the external ballistics of the 77gr. rounds. I’d be happy out to 600yards. Hoping to not having to play with transonic 5.56. Thanks!!!

@LRRPFco52 Жыл бұрын
Depends on whether you like to hear and see your impacts or not. As you can see with this video, it’s very hard to determine your impacts with 5.56 77gr. If you step up to 6.5 Grendel, those doubts disappear because 123gr impacting the steel sounds like 168gr SMK .308 Win., and wind drift is less. Visible impacts with 24” bolt gun .223 Rem hot loads with 77gr right next to 12” barrel 6.5 Grendel 123gr on the same target will show you what I’m talking about. One is a barely visible impact with tiny little “tink”, while the other is a big slap on the steel with an unmistakable impact and splash mark. I’ve been shooting 5.56 since the 1980s, running it through DM courses for decades, and really see it more as a close range cartridge that hits hard within 200-300yds, then runs out of gas really fast.

The wind drift and drop are very similar with 18-inch barrel 6 ARC and 6.5 Creedmoor at 1000 yards
@LRRPFco52 Жыл бұрын
@@nedkarp8468 You’re able to maintain your sight picture with the 6.5 Grendel, but impacts are much louder with 123-130gr than 105-110gr. I’m able to hear 6.5 Grendel hits easier than 6mm Dasher once you get out to 600+ yards. If you shoot the 107gr SMK or 110gr PPU FMJ in 6.5 Grendel, you get the same experience as 6mm ARC, but with a little more wind drift. 123gr and 130gr smack the steel harder and give you that satisfying feedback, whereas the lighter bullets are just too anemic for my taste. 5.56 is just a non-player in that space, no matter what you do to it, even if you single-load 90gr SMKs and Bergers. It will hit, but it’s just too hard to hear with a full value wind over 5mph, at least for me. I wear Sordins, so I can hear better with them than without. With 14.5” .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor, you lose your sight picture and need a spotter to tell you where your point of impact was for both misses and hits, but when you connect, it’s very audible. 168gr SMK sounds very similar to 123gr 6.5mm impacts, even from Grendel. 175gr SMK hits a bit harder and you can hear that as well. 140-147gr 6.5mm hits really hard, even giving you nice audible impacts at 1000yds, but so does 130gr 6.5mm from the Grendel, which you can spot your own hits with. The amount of carrier mass slamming back into battery with the large frame AR-10s really messes with your ability to track your sight picture and spot for yourself, on top of more muzzle climb and torque. With the larger bullets in 6.5CM and .308 especially, the scope torques to the left significantly, especially if you have a lighter blaster. You can see it every time someone breaks a shot by looking at their magazine wagging underneath the rifle, even in the prone bipod-supported with rear bag. External ballistics favor the 14.5” 6.5CM for sure, but the penalties have to be considered for your overall experience. You can mitigate the muzzle climb and recoil with 6.5CM if you shoot 107gr, 123gr, or 130gr. I personally love the 130gr VLD in 6.5CM and .260 Rem over the 140-147gr class due to trajectory and lower muzzle climb. 107gr is almost recoilless, but you suffer from the lack of audible impacts again like a 6mm Dasher at the intermediate-to-long distances. In the end, the 6.5 Grendel is the Goldilocks again.

Amazing vid as always! I'm now confident in the thought that ARC really won't provide any significant advantage over 6.5 Grendel to justify a switch. At least for my shooting abilities and accessible ranges anyway.
@LRRPFco52 Жыл бұрын
The 6.5 Grendel is louder on-target and you can basically duplicate 6mm ARC if you shoot 107gr SMK, 108gr Lapua Scenars, or 110gr PPU FMJBT. I know the BCs on the 6mms are higher, but they all suck when trying to hear your impacts on steel at distance until you step up the projectile weight to 123gr or more. There really is a big difference in how loud the 123gr is on steel, but it isn’t as flat-shooting. 130gr VLD and RDF really hit the steel even harder with more momentum. 6mm ballistics are great on paper and inside of the sight picture, but just can’t deliver the momentum on-target, not even from the Dasher. I noticed this at Steel Safari (3-Day Long Range Field Match hiking across 3 different canyons/cliff edges in New Mexico). The 6mm Dasher just doesn’t hit that hard at distance, is hard to see and hear the impacts, even though it is easy to connect with. A shorter 17.6” barrel 6.5 Grendel was louder on the steel at 600-700yds than 25” 6mm Dashers and .243 AIs. 6mm ARC will never be a Dasher.

@@MontanaWild78 You don’t see any practical difference. 20” 5.56 is a waste of barrel for no appreciable benefits at distance. When you shoot 24” .223 Rem hot loads with 77gr next to a 12” barrel 6.5 Grendel on the same target at distance, the 6.5 Grendel smokes it with far more noticeable impacts and noise feedback shooting 123gr. 6mm AR or ARC (6mm Grendel) from a 20” makes a great coyote/varmint rifle, but you can shoot 85-110gr from the 6.5 Grendel just the same a little faster, though the 6mm has slightly better BCs on paper. Your dope is going to be your dope no matter what, so short of egregious wind holds like with lesser-performing .30 cals, it isn’t a big deal from shooter’s perspective between 6mm and 6.5mm. Step up to .224 Valkyrie and it’s the same story next to 6mm and 6.5 Grendel. Just really goes to show that with a competent shooter 5.56 really can handle a lot more distance than people often give it credit for. This was only a 14.5" too which is a good length but obviously not even the most common length(16") so the average AR might even be able to perform a little bit better. I'm kinda surprised you don't have a really good mk12 clone given the kind of shooting you do. That said obviously the 6ARC outperformed it. Nice Shooting brother! The 6 ARC has Much more lethality at long distance over the 5.56 because of that 105 grain bullet weight.. Pretty much the entire reason it was invented by Hornady and the DOD. Now that the military has adopted the 6.8 as their next cartridge the 5.56 will continue to slowly increase in cost as the years go forward. Right now the 5.56 is Much less expensive. I just looked and 6 ARC is $1.20 a round in bulk for Hornady Black 105g. The SB Ammo 5.56, 77 grain was the cheapest at 90 cents. Personally I would yank my 5.56 barrel and bolt when 5.56 ammo supply is depleted, replacing with 6 ARC. It can shoot 78 grain varmint type ammo all the way up to 108 grain and still works great in close quarters. Once you get some brass built up its not much more cost if your reloading. 6 Arc in 100+ grain projectiles has much better wind bucking and like 400 Ft Lbs more energy downrange. For a barrel and bolt swap its dam impressive when you look at all the data. If you need to hunt its much more capable than the 77gr 5.56 as well on Hogs and larger deer. Just my 2 cents.

If you want a 5.56 dmr get a PRI Mk12 Mod 0 and an AEM5/OCM5 it’s an amazing suppressor great rifle

Absolutely awesome comparison. I already shoot Black Hills 77gr OTM and this just salitified I will be staying with that as long as I’m poor. LOL GREAT JOB

You might consider using an H2 buffer for the 6mm ARC, especially suppressed to absorb a bit of energy and reduce recoil. This could reduce some wear factors. Another option is the JP enterprise buffer system with swappable heavy buffer.

Awesome video and great tasting. You almost always push the scale towards me building up a 6arc.

from what it seems, 6mm ARC has its advantages, however I personally lean more to the 5.56 because of its commonality (this is under the assumption you have a team who also runs 5.56)

Pickin up older fn special police .308 shortly…got 4x16shv on it but I’ll probably opt out for it and save for a s&b…..mod 70 pattern…heavy..solid rifle

Thank you again for a ton of information. I’ve been following the 6 ARC since it was announced. I’m still not sure it is going to catch on. The scope footage is great.
@Courtesyflush52 Жыл бұрын
I think it will catch on once other brands can make cheaper factory loads. Also now that SOCOM is using 6 ARC, I expect it to follow the 300BLK trend

Your 5.56 with 75gr barely moved the plate at 850 yards and and even less at 1000+. Simply hitting vs doing something to the target is a very important if not most important consideration to me. I don't think many DMR dudes go to a 14" barrel in any caliber. You want flat, go to more velocity with a longer barrel. You also should try other bullets and match grade loadings. Overall though a very nice vid.

awesome video once again with some excellent shooting! it definitely helps to be able to see your misses but still that’s insane with 5.56 I’m a big fan of IMI Razor Core so it was cool seeing you using it I was surprised at how much plate movement you got at 1024 with 6 ARC! I wish I could join you with my Odinworks 6.5 Grendel - looks like a lot of fun out there

I didn’t want to buy a 6 ARC. But, guess I need one now! 😂. Great video!!

I wonder the amount of energy the 77gr hitting at 1022 yards, mosquito bite? I have a similar setup, two uppers, 20"SS416R on both, the 223Wylde and the 6mmARC. Thanks for doing g that tedious work. Very well done.

Great. I’ve recently built a 6 arc but haven’t shot it yet. Should be fun. I noticed the 6 arc was a bit lucky - as it was certainly using the entire area of the target. It was catching both left and right edges. An inch variance could have dropped the hits by about 3 or 4. But hey - a hit is a hit.

Excellent video. I have multiple AR-15s in 5.56, and am looking for my next different caliber. Looking at 6 AAR, 6.5 Grendel, 300 Blackout, 243, etc...
@aktideracer8710 Жыл бұрын
Retained energy is a lot higher in the 6 arc as well, it’s a better cartridge for a DMR roll period. It’s probably why the DOD asked it to be made and is now fielding it

Love to see a video seeing how far you can shoot standing. Especially using your subsonic 300 blackout rifle since it has rainbow trajectory

Thanks for the video. I have been trying to zero in on a cartridge of this similar capability, but I have been waiting to see if any stand out as something that sinc up with my needs, capabilities and budget.

I have an 18" 5.56 that consistently groups sub MOA and an 18" 6.5 Gendel that is consistent 1" MOA. I've found Im inclined to shoot the 5.56 at distances up to 600 and Grendel beyond 600. I dont have a giant as wheat feild to shoot in so I seldom shoot beyond 500 anyways. I think practicing with 556 is where its at simply due to cost. I plan to start loading Grendel to see if I can get improved performance. Ive seen guys get 0.4 MOA out of thier grendel set ups with custom hand loads which is crazy precise. 6mm ARC is pretty cool.

Really good information. Thanks for the work. I would like to have an idea of what kind of energy we might expect at maybe 500 yards in the 6 arc , 556 , 308 and 6.5 c . In the heavier (not heavyset) bullet weights. 🤔
@maddog800411 ай бұрын
6 arc (IMO 6.5 Grendel) at around 55000 to 58000 psi should be next military round. Enough energy to get the Job done close Q while able to reach out to 1000 yard while the recoil is still low enough to control full auto (if you have to). The wear and tear is also Manageable unlike hotter rounds.

The Spuhr mount actually has a level built into the back of the base. This is actually one of the main reasons I like running Spuhr mounts. Thanks for watching!
