If you want to make an interesting test fight for the NGAD, I recommend seeing how they perform defending an attack. So far all your videos have had the NGAD on offense, if they had to defend a naval base or battle group from an attack it mitigates their ability to dictate the engagement. Best thing I can think of to keep NGAD from just always having a shooting gallery.

If you removed the sidewinders from the NGAD, could you fit 4 more Peregrine missiles in it? They have both infrared and radar tracking built in. While they will not go the longer ranges of AIM missiles, they reach well beyond the stealth's detection range. In addition, they are supposed to be a lot cheaper and easy to manufacture. The more I read about them, the more impressive they seem. A possible game changer with the rise in drones. I envision a B-21 complete with Peregrine missiles used as drone swarm defense.
@forzaelite1248 Жыл бұрын
That's the idea; im not sure DCS supports mult-modal targeting but they definitely want to replace the older AMRAAMs and AIM-9s with two of these per rack. Raytheon's mentioned they could fit in stacks of 4 like SDBs so maybe 2 JATMs and 8 Peregrines on the F35 is a potential loadout

NGAD is optimized for all signatures: RCS/Visual/Heat etc… it’s better than any 5th Gen you can assume. Great job guys!
@dereksteneman9657 Жыл бұрын
Your friendly f22 pilot here with another input; 1. Coordinated attack with 5th/6th Gen… assign a lead to keep the formation Line Abreast, 0.9 IMN and turning hot/cold view “hot left/right” calls… this helps not have multiples 10 nm in front and/or 10nm behind which means shot range and coordinated intercept is all messed up. Simultaneity (it’s real word I think) is critical even against AI. 2. Lead: always give a little power to wingman. You should rarely be in Mil or full AB…. Technique: admin phase post takeoff select 90% Mil to allow extra power for you wingman. However, once you commit its full rage (as discussed preciously) to maximize killing and kinematics. 3. Don’t shoot at 90 miles! Way too long and minor maneuvers from red will cinematically defeat. I can’t tell you specific ranges due to security issues but pick a range (50-60nm) in the heart of the envelope at 1.2 IMN 10 deg nose high to Fox3. 4. Call your merges!!! Call it early like 10nm or once you’ve made your merge decision to avoid blue on blue frat!! This is Air Combat Maneuvering (ACM) 101. 5. ACM the first to merge is the “engaged fighter” all others entering the fight are support fighters. Engaged fighter focuses on BFM and killing. Supper fighters focus on deconfliction from engaged fighter and sanitizing/ killing other red fighters entering merge/ furball…. blue on blue “Frats” are heinous and punishable by owning the squadron a keg and calling the wife/GF and or Mom of the deceased pilot you killed!

What's astounding about these NGAD sims is how outstanding these results are utilizing a comparatively half-assed version of what the actual platform is supposed to be like in real life. Even with the AI being silly at times, the moments it does work, the AI makes an absolute killing. Terrifying stuff really, but when you realize that this thing is designed to counter what our adversaries are expected to bring to the field in the coming decades, I suppose it shouldn't be all that surprising.
@gehirnx Жыл бұрын
I've been thinking the exact same thing. Probably unrealistic thermal setup, guessing on RCS (probably way stealthier), and missing perhaps the most dangerous part of the NGAD--the sensor suite and integrated drone control systems--and its still able to absolutely pulverize anything that comes its way.
@hughmungus2760 Жыл бұрын
I think the US is making the same mistakes the germans made at the end of WW2 with their wonderweapons. The price of the NGAD is shooting past $300 million per airframe. At those prices, it starts getting cost effective to drop FOBS on airfields with NGADs. Much less what happens if a couple of saboteurs with drones and thermite bombs might do. The future of warfare is going to be cheap, distributed and increasingly blurred between civilian actions and military actions. These overpriced show pieces will probably never get used because there aren't any targets worth using them against or get destroyed by being blown up on the runway or having their supply/maintenance chains attacked/sabotaged. Right now as good as the F35 is, half of them can't fly because there aren't enough spare parts and facilities to maintain them. What happens if the few facilities that make those spares get hit with a chinese/russian 'stuxnet' attack?
@darthkarl99 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, IMO they're really selling the NGAD short on kinematics and may be underestimating just how efficient the engines are going to be. If those engines are as good as i'd expect they're going to be as far ahead of current jet engines as the early postwar jets where ahead of piston aircraft.

I would imagine, the US is planning on countering it's own technology in the future. When the the US releases the ngad it'll already well along the path of its nngad. Why? It knows that even the ngad will experiences losses which will get captured and then accelerate the baddies technology however the US will already have a well developed answer in the nngad keeping it one step ahead at all times by knowing where the baddies technology comes from (because they can't do this themselves).

I know you were merely attempting to add reason to what we were seeing on screen, but in the end it's just another point where DCS is a limitation and I'm 99% sure in the real world, data link and sensor network range would solve those issues.

Every single fastener is completely uncovered, all of the fitted panels and doors have large gaps, and the engine fans and irst sensors are all large and exposed. I think the future of air warfare is going to start involving attritable drones with good missiles. I can forsee TB2 sized drones made almost entirely of radar absorbent material carrying Hobs just loitering over the battlefield and networked to engage hostile aircraft the moment they detect on IR. They would be basically like flying mines and take down $300 million superfighters for pennies. The best part is they dont even need an airfield, they can be launched, recovered and rearmed on a small stretch of road or even vertically launched.
@jonathanpfeffer3716 Жыл бұрын
Self defence DEWs make large fighters futureproof, so I don’t think we will ever see purely drone engagements, but they 100% will play a big role in the future. That’s the way the USAF is trending with some other countries following behind.
Have you seen the specs for the proposed "MiG-41"? From what I've seen, if it gets built. It's supposed to be a reduced observability high supersonic interceptor. Think of a Foxhound with lower observability properties. With the canards and a tailless design, I kind of wonder if the F/A-XX has some of the knowledge learned from the X-31, assuming they have some sort of thrust vectoring. F/A-XX against the TU-22M3, TU-95s, and the Russian AWACS defending the Carrier Battle Group?

Mig 41 will be a drawing for a long time. Russia aircraft design is lagging decades behind US, and even in the best if times Russian aircraft were poor copies of the western ones (sometimes not of those that were chosen but if the competing prototype), with modifications due to lower manufacturing and design capabilities. Now, Russia is much weaker than the USSR was or China is. So much is for show, lots of finding is stolen or spent inefficiently, bright people are leaving the country, and there is absolutely no way they can manage the sensor and networking tech, not to mention proper engines or stealth. It's just another Potemkin village. So no, at most you will see a few test aircraft in several years, without the claimed capabilities.

Most, if not all other countries practice Air Superiority. The USAF practices Air Supremacy. The difference is in Air Superiority, the opponent can at least do something to oppose you. In Air Supremacy, all they can really do is spam manpads like stingers. While other nations may have Air Supremacy in doctrine, none of the seem to demonstrate the capability to actually do it(though as stated before, China seems to be at least getting on the right track, but since they're trying to close a 30yr gap in tech as we continue to advanc, I, again, wouldn't hold my breath).

You’re friendly F22 pilot again w some inputs; 1. NGAD won’t fly within visual range of each other (like F22 prior comments). With their sensor suite (I’m sure not modeled correctly) spread them out 20-30 away… 2. No reason to use AB (fuel) unless killing aka giving energy to the missiles. Fly subsonic until meeting commit range (see my comments on F22 tactics). 3. Fuel: treat fuel like a weapon. Only “use it” as necessary. 4. Basic Fighter Maneuvers (BFM) aka dogfight (real pilots don’t call it dog fighting)… after you’ve attrited the red to reasonable merge numbers (see prior comments) and YOU decide to buy a merge and do BFM…. Offset both materially and vertically = get off horizon!! Come in at an angle with an aspect (lots to talk about here but I won’t) of 30-40 degrees off either high or low. This allows you to drive the fight, determine red awareness (do they turn into you?) stay out of radar search (not likely) and survive the merge (if you think they see you flare inside 10nm). 5. Hit the merge slightly above corner velocity (425-435 knots) and DO NOT break into bandit until you see rapid Line of Sight (LOS)!!! You want to fly through his control zone (again too much to talk about here… select Max AB when out of heat WEZ and break. Ugh so much to talk to. 6. Blow through = a tactic you can use in 5th Gen & NGAD (maybe not modeled in DCS) to offset from lower threats… fly past them and target primary threats depending on mission. Example: blow through lead red escorts to kill bombers on a DCA mission. Prioritize you missiles for “the mission” As always… love these and you guys are doing great! Keep them coming and reach out to me if you want advice… cold killers you are let’s go!

Why do they always throw the AWACS in? It mitigates the differences in radar ability between the planes and it's not really realistic. Two fleets meeting in the middle of the ocean aren't going to have AWACS planes on hand.

It's just how we set the GR assets up, all designed to work with AWACS support. Just too much work to go back and redo it all now.

Wouldn't the russians be likely to have their 5th generation in front and use the 4th as missiles trucks guided in by the 5th generation planes. At least that's how the US plans to use them together. Not that it would do them a lot of good, as the SU-57's RCS are far too big, therefore they would get shot down well before getting a radar lock, I would expect.

The way you have simulated NGAD is very impressive, are you limited to only 2 loyal wingmen or could you have 10 lessening the need for live pilots? Can or does AWACS control the Loyal Wingmen or just the pilots? Can NGAD be used in SEAD missions using MALD missiles and JDAMS? How would Iranians Land, Air & Sea Defenses match up with NGADS? Can NGADS be used to Plow the field for a Rapid Dragon assault?
@hughmungus2760 Жыл бұрын
I highly doubt NGAD would be at all useful in a ground attack role. Far too easy to lose them to MANPADs and it would cost the GDP of a small country if the US lost one.
@jonathanpfeffer3716 Жыл бұрын
@@hughmungus2760It absolutely can and realistically would. Judging by your comment it seems like you are one of those people, no offense, that still thinks ground attack is low altitude runs. Nowadays tip of the spear fighters like that will be employing stand-off munitions against air defenses or in the naval context ships. The JSF is the primary tool for this, but there will be conflicts, like Taiwan, where some targets are just too far away for it to prosecute. That’s where the NGADs fit in.
@hughmungus2760 Жыл бұрын
@@jonathanpfeffer3716 ground attack requires long loiter times and heavy payload. Neither of which the NGAD is better at doing than say, a drone. Standoff munitions are useful against strategic targets, but you're not going to be picking off dispersed tanks and machine gun nests cost effectively with them. For close air support you don't want to be sending $300millon air superiority fighters low and slow to get blasted by MANPADS. As the Ukraine war is revealing, you can use standoff munitions till the cows come home but you're not going to be able to hold 1000kms of battlefront with the occasional JDAM strikes.
@jonathanpfeffer3716 Жыл бұрын
@@hughmungus2760 You seem to fundamentally misunderstand how stealth fighters are used. They are tip of the spear units in a near peer conflict intended to take out the really dangerous things, to put it simply. They operate as one part of an entire military apparatus, so yes of course you have other assets for picking off dispersed tanks and machine gun nests, as you mentioned. I don’t think I ever argued for a wholly NGAD Air Force. And for what it’s worth, the NGAD is absolutely going to have a very good loiter time and payload. Just look at the size, range, and speed requirements publicly released and that fact becomes apparent fast.

I was looking at Turkish naval strength ( for no reason at all) and they have an interesting flagship. It was apparently a helicopter carrier but is now basically a drone launching platform. I like the concept. I have a friend who works drones in the Mideast from a base in the United States… retired from the navy because he was unable to meet physical standards but was immediately hired as a contractor and works in the same office for considerably more than the people that fired him. The point being I see the pilots in the near future comfortably sitting in their air conditioned office

with Baykar Kizilelma stealth carrier launch drone, things will get very interesting for the Turkish airforce and Turkish navy, for now the RCS value according to some sources (not formal ones) is 0.3 but the target RCS value is about 0.001 which is considered very stealthy, the drone can fire A-A missiles, long range cruise missiles, guided bombs, the first flight for the drone was done in 2022 and the drone should be fully operational in 2025, there will be further developments for the drone until 2028

Times 7-8 escort ships it could be a huge force multiplier at a minimum cost as all the tech is really in place. It doesn’t have to be stealthy because every missle the take is one less against a manned aircraft .

The russians might have that many SU-57's at that time, though I doubt it! Probably the russians won't have that many MiG-31's when the NGAD arrives, at least not at the rate they crash their planes and also as they will be extremely old airframes by then, their high speed probably will be hard on their airframes anyway. They are not in production anymore so they won't get new.

@jamison884 Жыл бұрын
I'm saying this with no bias, honestly. I've been plenty biased against Russia in past comments, but here, it's just the realistic situation reported. Checkmate debuted as a 100% scale model, but it was literally a shell, perhaps made out of fiberglass, in an effort to show they were near production. Since then, there has been little interest in the export market, and without exports supporting the development of the jet, Russia can't afford to build it. This has dried up even further, as they soured their export relationship with India, China is now making its own designs, North Korea is too poor, Iran is too poor, and all NATO-friendly countries are purchasing the superior F-35. That was even before the war with Ukraine, so now Russian air development specifically is hugely delayed and I wonder how many years it will take for a legitimate next-generation model to actually be manufactured in numbers, and then they have to hope it's also competitive against both the Chinese and US models which don't have these same funding and production issues. RU is essentially as much as a full decade behind their near-peer enemy air forces with no sign they will be able to catch up. Perhaps if they stop wasting so much resources in the war and leave the war to have sanctions removed, they will be able to make progress. Until then, Russia is extremely weakened and NATO forces from EU countries alone can easily contain RU forces without the assistance of the US. This allows the US to focus on the Pacific and China with their allies in that region to defend against any Chinese aggression.
