This week we go over my 2020 Ford F350 Dually. This truck is rad, Tows like a dream with the 7.3l Godzilla motor under the hood. Let's get the oil changed and head down south to Moab.

@@kensporalsky3784 It's interesting to see what will happen to this truck after 20 years, considering that is the youngest 7.3 PSD you can get now, 2003. Mine's L99, beaten and abused by the previous owner, still works fine. Modern trucks are way ahead in terms of performance, but in terms of reliability, I'd go for an old diesel any day of the week or an older truck in general. I like when I can fix my truck myself.

@@dimitrid268 I like old diesels too, but the new ones are INSANELY complicated. If you like working on your trucks, you’d love the 7.3 Godzilla. Great walk around on the trailer. Like everyone else at the time, ended up with a carson trailer. Mine is 16 years old with the original deck! I always thought this cheap trailer would be temporary for me, but has been far more reliable than any trailer I owned before. For a little angle iron trailer, it rock. Couple upgrade I did that were totally worthwhile: - added triangle corner gussets to the deck to keep the flex down. Straps stopped getting loose after that - added morride shackles. Way beefier and stoped the spring slop - added brakes to the back axle so I have 4 wheel brakes And best of all: I added a 14k weight distribution hitch. Even with a solid 3/4 ton truck, that hitch makes braking much more stable, especially since I tow my crawler on tight mountain roads.

It has 8” screen with apple car play, bed lights, man step, bed liner, siriusxm, remote start, dual batteries and alternators, running boards, tinted windows, vinyl seats, vinyl floors. When I reserved my base model bronco in 2020 and my 2021 order got bumped to a 2022 almost immediately I priced out getting another truck instead. I was was looking at a regular cab 4x4 F350, XL trim, 7.3 Godzilla, plow/camper packages for stiffer/taller springs. They weren't bad, MSRP was mid 40's at the time. I ended up sticking with my base model bronco that I was able to get out the door for like $32k. No regrets with the bronco, most fun vehicle I've ever owned. I still plan to find a 7.3 Godzilla f350 someday for my tow pig when I get to where I need one, most likely pre-owned though.

I got my F350 in 2020 with the 7.3 gas SRW extended cab STX. It was a dealer order truck and I got it for sticker price just before the auto industry explosion. I tow a 35 foot gooseneck to haul my 10k lb skid steer. The truck has worked great and continues to impress. A lot of people give me crap because I didn’t get a diesel but I have heard a lot of horror stories about expensive repairs on new diesels. I deal with enough diesels in my equipment I didn’t want it in my truck. All I wanted was a nice simple truck, very little tech, gas engine and cloth seats.

I'm always shocked at how many people only go with 7K trailers. Given the trailer probably weighs in at 2500 lbs itself that doesn't leave much capacity for a crawler. Fine for the average car but only adequate for the smallest of crawlers or buggies. For example, my 18' tilt-deck with drive over fenders is 3000 lbs and my crawler is about 5500. That would put me way over a 7K trailer, hence the 5200 lb axles under it. I think a lot of people out there are running over-weight without even realizing it. Or maybe they think "7000 lbs" is the payload capacity of the trailer and forget to add the weight of the unit itself. Or you know, maybe they just don't think at all.....

I would love to see a video on trailer updates and such. Especially some ideas on tail light protection. They seem to be just a consumable product on trailers. Looks like your snow melt is about the same as we have here, just an hour or so Northeast of you. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Dave: bought my Carson about the same time you did. Best thing I ever did was swap to 225 E rated tires. Still only load it to 7000-ish total, but at least the tires last...

As a retired tech i know that doodads and bling are the first thing to fail in automotive, I totally agree on the bare bones truck, although mine is a Chevy, its a base work truck, manual transfer case no touch screen even a rubber mat, life is tough enough without worrying about unnecessary features breaking.

Great video! I am right there with you. I also just purchased a gas XL F-250. I didn’t want all the modern electronics to go wrong. I agree with the diesel comments. Modern diesels are just much to expensive to gamble on. I enjoy you going depth on it none the less. More people outta think through truck purchases with this kind of logic
