I watched a video where they pulled a 7.3 and put it on a dyno. All they did was change the throttle body to a Holley and put different coils on it to work with the mods that they were going to do. They got just over 500 fly wheel horsepower. Ford under rated these motors. On mine I got rid of one resonator and muffler and put on a Flowmaster. I also put on an AFE GT Momentum dry forced air intake and a Banks Pedal Monster. It woke mine up big time. The Pedal Monster does nothing for horsepower. It does make the throttle open up when you want it to and not when the EPA wants it to. It makes enough sound to make me happy without any drone noise. When towing on the hwy, you can hear it with a load.

Try gutting the muffler or the resonator and put it in place of the glass pack. If the expansion area has enough volume, the exhaust may act as if you cut it off at the cats and still be quiet. This assumes the collector and stock tubing back affects the power negatively by creating a super long collector.

Dave: You made a super amount of power for using parts you already had and you didn’t ruin the sound. A kit probably wouldn’t do any better. Hopefully, it doesn’t drone. It is possible that there is a little more power to be had. The collector/secondary length tuning is the place to concentrate on in a purpose built exhaust; however, that wouldn’t suit your stated goals (cost, messing with cats) Perhaps cutting the exhaust after the cats and putting a turn down would be the next best thing and would make slightly more power than your setup. That would be cheap, but it would suck. What I was trying to say was a homemade expansion chamber in place of the glass pack you installed, would make the exhaust act like it was cut off at the cats without fumes, would keep your sound and would still be cheap. v/r wh

I was under the impression that perforated straight through mufflers had more turbulence and created a restriction. I use the knock off (sometime branded) flow masters with the v type chambers. Some say a good performance reverse flow moves more exhaust than a cherry bomb, but I have never had access to a Dyno to test. My butt Dyno is unreliable as I am influenced by the audio.

Yeah. Seems like engine masters was the only place to find real numbers

@@thedirtheadshed I'll have to look for that one...unless you know what season episode it was. I can pull them off the the D flavor platform now. Glad you got some good results, was for sure that resonator.

You should put a tip on that. 3in to a 4.5 out

That Y pipe is the MVP here. You could just replace that first resonator and get great results, and it doesn't sound like a fart machine.

Get back in shape. It makes riding your dirtbike better too. Especially getting your core strong. I was wondering how long it would take before you started playing with the dually..lol.

Nice! I wonder what kind of power this 7.3 with headers and programmer would bring to the table. 40 pound feet of torque only with better flow👍

I was blown away at that number

You missed the obligatory straight pipe rev after you cut the resonator off. I like to start and rev it after welding each piece. . Y pipe.. mufflers.. and tailpipe.

..... the STEVES and David are all EFI crazy Engine Masters .. that 7.3 would make a great ENGINE MASTERS upgrade and a Roadkill Garage install .. you just have to reside in the fact Steve might have it on the farm for a couple of years .. lol
