Thank you for your videos! I also have a 7.3 IDI with this same DB style fuel pump. I noticed diesel leaking out of the plunger stem shown at 14:35. Do I need to remove the whole pump to service that leaking stem? It looks like I could access it but not sure about removing the 1'' nut. Is there an O ring on the plunger in the 1'' nut?

There is a separate seal for the plunger in the one-inch nut. I'd advise you to look at my newer video on tearing down the pump. IIRC I shew the seal, both removal and installation (with tips).

When cold starting.... If controller is click click click that is sign of a problem or no? Second question.... As soon as lite goes out on dash then engine is ready to start? 1989 7.3 idi don

Ive been meaning to make a video about this, havent gotten time to take a controller apart… it depends. Does the light come on and stay on for a few seconds then go out and the clicking start? so the glow plug controller is ‘transistorized’ (computorized) meaning it takes a set of inputs (glow plug resistance) and determines whether or not to send current out to the glow plugs. The controller will generally actuate the relay for anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds, sending current to the plugs. After that, the controller will sense the plugs are hot enough and will turn off the wait to start light. The ford manuals say that the glow plug controller may continue to actuate the glow plug controller after the engine has started to keep it running in very cold temperatures.

Very good video !!! My injection pump is working good but it seems to be leaking from the cover plate for the fuel screw that you've shown at the ( 9:00 minute ) mark of the video. Is that something that can be remedied with a new gasket ? Its not leaking from anywhere else but that access plate gasket is dripping fuel heavily. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance !

New gasket or gasket maker would probably do the trick. Not sure if they are shimm’d or clearanc’d inside.

Thank you for responding ! I took off the access panel for the fuel screw and applied some fuel resistant gasket maker but left the original rubber gasket in place to help create the same seal as well.
