On the 6.9 and 7.3 idi you can install up to a 9-11 psi lift pump that will increase fuel supply pressure and slightly increase injection timing (advance)

The pump I installed is 9-11.5 psiand 33gph. I have used it in several idi trucks with great results.

Here's a fuel question of timing issue? 89 f450 starts only if sprayed a taste of it. Smokes like worse then slave lake. Hold throttle past 1/2 way. Truck shuts off. Starts back up if warm. Still same . Stuff changed injection pump , glow plugs . Glow plugs on a button. New o rings and return lines tank to engine. New lift pump.

Truck have excessive blow by and completely clapped out? If not, I would check timing next. Sounds like you have done most everything else. 2 other common issues would be fuel pick up shower head in the tank broke off tube rusted out. Or the tank switch valve leaking air or restricting fuel flow.

Changed that fuel sending unit . Engine has low miles it came out of a old grain truck. I changed injection pump. No Idea what previous owner did to it before I got it. Minimal blow by out of oil cap . If you let it idle for 20 minutes smoke goes away til you step on it but it shuts off still. I may just yank it and toss it. And put another 7.3 in it

I also drove it home 5 hours didn't smoke that bad. It had fuel oring leaks to start with but I drove it home. Then injection pump quit pumping fuel to injectors . But always started hard since I bought it.

@wrecker Jonny Make sure your fuel shut off solonoid is maintaining power. You could have gotten ip wiring backwards. Then start playing with timing or find someone that has the timing tools and can help you do timing.
