I have a single cab 7.3 idi dually. My daily driver. About 3 times a month complete strangers ask me if they could sit in my cab and smell the truck.. They tell me it reminds them of their dads, uncles, grandfather's. A few have teared up. I've owned her for 5yrs now. I needed that smell in my life! Rip Dad

If you want power, don't get an IDI. I own one and it's extremely hard and expensive to get an kind of power out of these engines.

If you can afford it the best option instead of changing rear gears is to add a gear vendors overdrive. Then you can pull trailers but when on the highway click into double overdrive and roll out. My grandad had it on his 6.9idi turbo and it was great. Also the ibeam suspension ford used was great but it has to be set up right. You really need good tires and balancing. My grandad took the time to set his up right and it drove like a dream and could run 75-80mph with ease. He used to pull his 5th wheel camper that fast in double overdrive lol it was a 5th wheel that had a pointed nose like a race car for low drag.

I'm using a 7.3 idi zf5 and 1356 in a 88 frame on 3.73 superduty axles. for my 75 crewcab build. will have a # of r&d parts in it.

I have a 92 idi with 250k on it and all are mine except 23. Mine has a Jardine Exhaust , ATS Turbo and a Gear Vendors overdrive. I turn about 1800 rpms at 65mph. 5th gear is about a 3.73 with a 4.10 and 5th over is about a 3.32. BTW it's a F350 crew dually

I have a 94 F250 IDI turbo 7.3 I think the exact same engine as yours. Just bought it about a month ago. It's pure stock non molested and runs like a champ. But just wondering what you attribute all that boost to. I don't have a boost gauge on yet but just wondering what the stock boost should be and what you did to get your up to 23lbs. Awesome 350 love it.

Usually stock is 8-10lbs i put a big injection pump and bigger turbo on it. Also head studs, custom camshaft and intercooler

Looks like the Sussex/Warren county area. Had my self a 6.9l N/A I used to cruise around in had no balls, but the thing always ran, and never complained with a c6 and 4:10s. It did get a little sticky in 2nd going into 3rd. And it absolutely SCREAMED going down the road past 60 mph. Other than that was a decent truck. Love the IDIs.

He did a twin turbo, and I think methanol, think that only stock thing left on it was the crank. You might have heard of him. N2d2 or something. Should check him out. If you still got that old rig

My 93 idi has a ZF5 & 3.55 rear axle. I think you can put a lower rear axle in her, but I think 3.55 is good enough.

im building an idi right now, the idi cant even be compared to a PS....totally different animal... im putting together a lifted 89/94 4x4 ill start posting some vids soon, i went with an older banks SW with some "personal mods" nice working with NO WIRES!!!....exh temps are gonna be an issue with mine, i have a high mile sleeved block, and one out getting tested and sleeved, but im in rural alaska, and on a budget, so i gotta weight a few months to get block back....gonna run the high mile block for now, at least ill have all the bugs worked out by then....vids gettin posted soon

I have a 94 F350 4X4 XLT Crew Cab & 93 extra cab 4x4 with the 7.3 IDI Have several powerstrokes am gonna build most my own pipes brackets been fabing for years ETC VERY IMPRESSED WITH YOUR BUILD been building trucks since I was 14 now 59 (still have all my hair LOL) you gave me a good blue print for several of the IDI trucks don't drive them much as they cant get out of their own way THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDEOS I have a my miller 210 with a spool gun miller thunderbolt 225 what tig welder does your brother use does it weld aluminum next purchases are a TIG & Plasma - just put an Atlas Platinum PVL-10 10,000 Lb 2 post lift in my barn CANT WAIT TO USE IT concrete need to set 30-45 days A SIDE NOTE WAS BORN IN MONTCLAIR NJ LIVED IN PARSIPPANY & LAKE HIAWATHA went to Lake Hopatcong every summer I now live in Roswell NM still miss the lushness of the garden state JUST not the SNOW!!!

I got a 91 Ford f super duty 450 7.3idi 513 rear I'm doing 2600rpm at 55mph but average 15 16 mpg plan on similar build and putting in 373 or 410 rears

Has anyone ever opened up the pre-chamber on the idi heads? I believe there were two reasons for pre-chambers: emissions and sound.

Nice truck. A lower numerical gear ratio will actually yield more power to the wheels. What you'll be losing is torque. If you want to keep the torque for towing and still get your high speed cruise rpms down you could look into getting what they call a brownie box gear splitter transmission or a gear vendors if you're not into all that manual shifting ($$$ though).

5:13 gears in the rear of a f450 non turbo idi . Talk about slow ride. Maybe that's why tach didn't work and neither did speedo. Now it all works after I started fixing all what was wrong with it

What about a ZF6SPD to go faster? I can't remember if the ZF had a lower 1st gear or if it was an extra overdrive. larger tires might help lower engine speed. A new gear set for the rear end would definitely be the most cost-effective . With a dually truck 6 tires is way more expensive than a new differential... and I'm not sure if the ZF transmission has the same bolt pattern on the bellhousing (they came on 2003 powerstroke's) don't know if 7.3 IDI / 7.3 powersmokes are the same bell housing. The truck looks fantastic. Looks like a land yacht.

I have a factory idi turbo and am about to pull the motor to give it some love, did you upgrade you're injectors or just the injection pump? I sent the guys at r and d an email to ask a couple questions as they seem to be the only company to make anything for the idi. For now I'd like to do the exhaust, head studs and cam which you say you need to go to ps valve springs? Thanks -Greg

@@reynaldorosales9136 used a metal rod and bent it a little . Added some threads to the top for the knob then welded a plate to the other end of the rod that i drilled 2 holes to bolt to the trans like the factory shifter is
