I'm a 48 year old white male I always watch KZbin for auto repair videos recently I needed to stitch up a couple things and started watching sewing videos I really like this video I love the music but I can't help but feel as if I may have learned something thank you

Jay Phillips I agree, this is helpful and I have learned from it. I am basically teaching myself embroidery and I prefer the video over a lot of books as I can rewind it and actually see it done. Very nice KZbin video.

I remember really liking embroidery back in school, even bought the cloth for it and everything, but then they split up the class between woodworking, metalworking and textile and wouldn't let guys work with textile. Thus I went into metalworking and neglected the supplies I already had. I might be able to re-learn this stuff thanks to videos like these!

@SarahMcDermott To finish the stem stitch, pull the needle to the back of your embroidery, loop the thread underneath the last few stitched and create a knot by pulling the thread through the loop you've just created. Then simply snip off the excess thread. Hope this helps! :)

Thank you for demonstrating the French knot. I struggle with this one because I always end up pulling the knot all the way through the fabric. I noticed you don't go back down through the original hole, rather you go down through the fabric just next to the spot where you came up and your knot was perfect. Maybe I can stop avoiding the French knot now!
@AmandaRolfe10 жыл бұрын
Lisa Pedrotti You're more than welcome! My first attempt at French Knots was the same as yours - my knot would just go straight through the fabric! Gosh, it was frustrating!! But through trial and error, I eventually got there and so will you! I'm so glad my video has helped you out! Good luck! :)

Thank you for this video. I'm 64, and can't knit anymore due to an injury, but I can embroider.(I hope!) What kind of cloth were you using in this video, and how many strands of floss? It looks like more than 2, which is what I'm using.
@AmandaRolfe5 жыл бұрын
From memory, the fabric I was using in this video was a cotton homespun, with some fusible interfacing on the back to give it a bit of stability. I would've used between 2-3 strands of floss/thread so that the camera could pick up my work. But I usually use that amount in my work anyway.

This is super helpful. Thank you. I'm attempting to stitch a black and white photograph. The paper I generally print on is a watercolor type of paper. Not thick card stock, but not too thin, either. Two questions, if I may. I"d appreciate any advice how to evenly space the stitches. I'm sure a lot of practice, but I'm not very good at eyeballing measurements. Also, Could you suggest anything that would hold larger sheets of paper in the same way a hoop holds the fabric?

Very hard to watch both the stitches and instructions at the same time but a very clear video for beginners! Thank you :) What fabric do you recommend? And what stitch for lettering?
@AmandaRolfe9 жыл бұрын
zuli225 Thanks so much for your feedback! I greatly appreciate it! :) Best fabric to use for embroidery would be 100% cotton or linen woven fabric. For lettering, use a chain stitch as it will make your curves a lot sharper and neater.
