I’m a big fan of the Power Pong Omega robot used in this video. You can read my review here: www.tabletenniscoach.me.uk/review-power-pong-omega-robot/ There are many other table tennis robots available too. Thanks for the video. Tom, I'm in the process of buying this robot ( butterfly amicus prime). Why do you choose this one ? Same factory ( Hungary), same Hardware, same firmware ( from HU manufacturer) the only difference is the Apps: powerpong ( US app/investor) and Butterfly Europe ( German App). Many thanks in advance for any info.
@TomLodziak2 жыл бұрын
@@NoTengoIlusiones Yes, the robots are basically the same. I chose Power Pong as the price was a little bit better. I don't think it matters too much which one you use. Both are excellent.
@NoTengoIlusiones2 жыл бұрын
@@TomLodziak thank you. I've contacted the "manufacturer" of powerpong. The only difference it's the APP. Firmware updates, HW it's all from Hungarian factory. Cheers.

Great video! Thanks very much. I often use our robot in the training sessions with our youth players. They learn the technique much faster than usual. I can correct them well during the exercises and they have a lot of fun doing it.

Great video Tom, I love mine, I have the butterfly alternative, but it helped me a lot to counter backspin, sure my footwork (collecting all the balls) got trained as well, but even if you miss 10 balls, you're not annoying your trainings buddy who needs to collect the ball every time.
@marcosmusixpcmusicam2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, I'm a coach in a small club, we have a robot since the pandemic, it doesn't just collect the balls, you have to collect them and put them back in the receptacle, but we have a net and all that. The problem is that you don't see a paddle on the other side, you don't see the intention of the other player who is not there... and since that is artificial, we have stayed away from the robot. But it is true that it should serve in some technical aspects... although since the ball always comes the same, it does not prepare you as much for real situations.
@TomLodziak2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. A robot won't help you read an opponent's strokes and body movements. So it's very important to spend more time playing with real opponents. But a robot can be very useful to improve technique, footwork, rallying skills and other things mentioned in the video.

Great video Tom. The other aspect of a robot is that it comes with a purpose built collecting net, so although not technically the robot, it allows lots of serving practice, without having to pick the balls up from off the floor.
@TomLodziak2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's true. The net is very useful for service practice.

I definitely need to work on my consistency and rallying skills. I am also fed up with partners that do not want to play drills but simply just want to play a game. How on earth shall one improve a certain skill when you‘re only focusing on winning. Before quitting TT (again) I am looking forward to play my drills alone and join the others for a game of fun when I am done. That’s one big benefit from a robot.
Gracias! Very amusing and funny to watch video with great information. You sure convinced me

Who would be against a robot just as good as someone just feeding you balls out of a basket. Baseball has pitching machines so you can become instinctive on technique and timing. The same for table tennis. I'm a newbie so I bought a robot and a 6x3 table just to practice alone on my strokes. The table hasn't arrive so I practiced sitting on the floor receiving bounces while I worked on back hands and forehand pushes. I bought a Joola 120 ball holder that can fluctuates the timing of balls out and top and back spin settings. Maybe an automatic positioning model will be next. Nice video to reinforce the positivity of robot trainer.
@chasf34333 ай бұрын
Just make sure you get a robot that has separate adjustments for spin and speed. With some cheap single wheel robots you can end up with far to much spin if you want the balls to come faster which is unrealistic for normal table play practice.
@abirmathur90462 ай бұрын
Hi Tom, great video. Many of the mid range robots (such as newgy 2055) dont offer no spin balls. Do you think this is a shortcoming, especially for beginners? Also many robots just offer one intensity of spin (altbough this can be varied by choosing a different speed setting). Would be good to get your thoughts before I purchase a robot. Many thanks.

The PowerPong Omega and the Butterfly Amicus Prime use the same hardware. It's just the software which is different. To be honest, there really isn't much difference between the two. Both are very good.

I've not actually used a return board, so I can't compare from direct experience. However, I imagine there's not that much you can do with a return board apart from very basic drilling.

I am a bit disappointed by this kind of 3wheels robot, I own an Amicus, because their backspin throws loose much speed (translated in less depth and height) compared to their topspin, backspin and topspin balls supposed to land at the same spot need different settings/placements on the tablet, this lack of speed on backspin must be compensated programming more height and depth in the app, not very logic, the software should do the compensation, not the user... for the price, this is very disappointing...
@TomLodziak2 жыл бұрын
I've not had the same experience as you. From what I understand the Butterfly Amicus and Power Pong Omega are made in the same factory, so should be similar. I have found it really easy to set up drills with the Power Pong and for the robot to send balls with the spin, speed and placement that I need.
