Let me know your thoughts on these theories and if you have any Chandrian theories of your own! I'm currently in need of a camera lens for my new camera so this video is all voice-over. Corrections: *Opening quote was actually Abenthy to Arliden not the other way around *I forgot the 8th figure on the artifact was an Amyr, not another Chandrian. However, Skarpi describes the Chandrian as "Haliax and the Seven" which could still support the theory. *also forgot to include the ShirePostMint unboxing that I mentioned in a previous post but I'll add that to a future video!

I think the Fela theory is a bit off just because the book talks about the archives being impossible to organize. I think Fela being able to purge the archives of any mention of the Chandrian is far-fetched because it would be an impossible task. The Chandrian has a vibe of being ancient and killing anyone that wrote about them it would stand to reason there would not be any books about them in the archives in the first place or if there were they are ancient and lost and not a threat to them.

Imo the biggest clue about Dennas patron being a Chandrian is that he asked her to spy upon the wedding party. Which the Chandrian then attacked. She is asked about how many people were there and so on. She thought it was some sort of test, and is most likely unknowing and is being used. Its likely that she will betray him, but I dont think it will be her intension.

the other way around is also possible. I was just reading the part in the Wise Man's Fear when he goes on for like a page or three about how wonderful it was to fall in with a troupe of Ruh. Being with them made it feel like he was home again. Then it all goes to crap a page later. Kvothe is setting up future plot points in his narrative so it's possible that ANY time he takes a moment to praise something nice or sweet, that portends that that thing is going to be a horrible inversion of what he expected.

I will say with confidence that Cinder is not Denna's patron. At one point someone mentioned that its possible that Denna was created as a mirror of Kvothe. So while Kvothe's family was killed by the Chandrian, Denna's family was killed by the Amyr "for the greater good". One thing that really stuck out to me is the fact that Denna had a different version of Skarpi's story than... well, Skarpi's story, where Lanre is the hero instead of the villain. I was really struggling with this. Something was tripping off every alarm in my brain. We know Rothfuss doesn' just throw stuff like that in for no reason at all: everything has a purpose. So either Skarpi was intentionally telling the wrong version of the story (maybe he has something to do with either the Amyr or Chandrian?), he unintentionally told the wrong story (which I find enormously unlikely), or he was telling the correct story (I find this the most likely). If he is telling the right story, then why would someone intentionally tell Denna the wrong story of the Lanre? I don't know, but my gut says that the reason has something to do with her patron being the Chandrian. But again, I strongly believe its NOT Cinder. To start, he's way too obvious. But that on its own isn't a good reason. But we haven't seen him with a walking stick. I know in one theory you mentioned that because he got shot in the leg, he might now have a walking stick, but if I remember correctly he was completely unphased by that. Not to mention, Denna's line that Kvothe might have met her patron in the Maer's court. Although it isn't guaranteed that her patron is in the court, I do think its highly likely, and Cinder wouldn't be able to hide himself there. He stands out like a sore thumb. But Bredon fits the description perfectly, has a walking stick, and fits the role in terms of timing. He and Denna seem to go missing together. The only thing is, would he have been at the Eolian, so far away from Vintas when Denna met her patron? I'm not sure. But stepping back a second, I think Denna's version of the Lanre story is key to finding out who her patron is. We need to focus on that. Who would benefit from telling the wrong version of the story? I can see both the Chandrian and the Amyr benefiting from it. But we know that her patron wants the world to know of this version of the story because he said that he wants her first song to be one that people sing for a long while (I think the wording was like "thousands of years" or something like that? IDK). Thoughts? I'm looking for feedback because there are definitely flaws in what I wrote today; its not perfectly logically sound. To anyone who got this far, I congratulate you for reading the ADHD fueled ramblings of very sleepy theorist. I hope most things here got at least tangentially tied together.
@roblewis82273 жыл бұрын
The jar shows 8 figures but one of them is a bloody handed Amyr. The Maer finds no examples of literature on the Chandrian long before Fela would even have been born. Kvothe swears upon his name, his power and his good right hand that he will not persist in trying to discover Dena's patreon, this seems the most likely reason for his current state. Also silence is a term used for when you cut of someones magic. Ajax was named as one of the few namers more talented than Lanrae, and as Lanrae was tbe one who cursed Heliax, maybe he can break the curse in exchange for his freedom. Also it seems to me that it must be the Amyr hiding the existence of the Chandrian, not the Chandrian themselves
@TheKyfe3 жыл бұрын
But it's implied by Kvothe's troupe's massacre that it is thr Chandrian doing the hiding. Haliax even says, "Who protects you from the singers..." (Refering to himself) to the others around the fire.
@roblewis82273 жыл бұрын
@@TheKyfe i mean im not saying im right or your wrong, the only way we will know is when we get the book. It seems to me that the chandrian and the Amyr are both workung towards the Chandrian being forgotten. Perhaps Heliax believes that as they cannot forget as part of their curse, if they are forgotten then thats just as good. If thats the case and being forgotten frees them from their invincibility then the Amyr may be working towards it to so that tbey can also be killed. Idk i just hope the eventually reason lives up to the anticipation of finding out
@TheKyfe3 жыл бұрын
@@roblewis8227 I wonder what Skarpi's role is, then? It's said that he is an ally of Kvothe's in the present, he's against the church, but with friends in high places protecting him, and the only thing that we know about him is that he tells stories that are purportedly the actual truth. He's definitely not trying to erase the Chandrian.
@roblewis82273 жыл бұрын
@@TheKyfe fair point. Friends in high places in the church considering he was talking to a justice hints at the human faction of the Amyr. If it is knowledge of the chandrian that is hidden in the archive then it makes sense that the Amyr are hiding the knowledge perhaps to protect it from the chandrian who would destroy it. So infact they are both working to restrict knowledge of the chandrian but for conflicting purposes. There is the possibility that tge chandrian just want to keep their names from being known but that does not feel deep enough for all the hype. One thing i love about this series is thats its just so original and there are so many things like the lockless box and doors of stone that we can only speculate on.
@roblewis82273 жыл бұрын
@@TheKyfe i just realised i didnt actually answer shit i just went of on a tangent. Idk when Chronicler tells Kvothe that he was with Skarpi, Kvothes reaction is a little put out. I guess Skarpi knows the truth about Kvothe and that hes not the rouge that the king is making him out to be. I think Kvothe meets him again in book 3 as i think Bast mentions him later. One thing that i think i noticed the last time i listened to the book was that all of Kvothes dialouge with Skarpi is written down and at no point did Kvothe tell him his name and yet Skarpi calls him by name when the justice shows up. I may be wrong or maybe nit all the dialouge was in the book but i think that happened

I believe Kvothe is similar to the chandrian in that he changed his true name, and i think it might be to stop the cathaes influence, because Halifax also talked to the Cathae (in some interpretations of his backstory). So i believe Kvothe is the same as the chandrian in whatever way makes them special, but he is not part of the group, and maybe he locked up his powers so they could not be used for evil if the chandrian tried to forcibly recruit him.

One very important part regarding what you said about the Chandrian just happening to show up after the Amyr killed Kvothe's troupe...Just before Kvothe is shaken away he dreams of a bird with wings of fire and shadow sinking it's claws into his chest, then he's shaken awake by the man wearing the encanis mask before he actually save saves Kvothe's life by giving him a talent. The man in the encanis mask is even having to rush for fear of being found and having to hurry. During the story of Selitos meeting with Aleph, it's said that they are all given wings and one of them gets wings of fire and shadow. To me, this likely backs up the theory that the Amyr will do anything in their power to keep people from knowing any kind of truth about the Chandrian. That Kvothe's parents had drawn the attention of the Amyr by researching the Chandrian so much and we're getting close to the truth so the Amyr killed Kvothe's troupe. This leaves me wondering then, why would the Chandrian show up in the aftermath? To me it says the Chandrian are looking for information about themselves that the Amyr don't want them to have. So if the man in the Encanis mask finding Kvothe in the aftermath of attack by the Amyr is a play on what happened to his troupe, then what can be said about the man in the Encanis mask "getting him back on his feet and giving him a coin?" Could the Chandrian be placing Denna in Kvothe's life? She always miraculously seems to turn up and she is largely responsible for Kvothe getting his talent pipes. As far as the Chandrian coming across as evil, how else would they be after thousands of years of seeing the same things? And Halifax clearly punishes Cinder for the way he acts.

I like the Kvothe as a Chandrian theory, except that Kote isn't bound to silence. He Hums early on in the first Book, catches himself, and stops. Later on he sings and a soldier recognizes him, and he has to fake a knee injury. Not sure why he lost magic and sword fighting when he changed his name, but not music though. I always took the silence to be a force of will on Kvothe's part, knowing if he let loose and made music, he would be found out quickly, because he's just that good.

They just explain it away with it being an ancient word for the English „Barrow Hill“..... it’s weird, to say the least, and there’s many more weird translation holes like these throughout the books. It doesn’t really let the reader make any assumptions as to what the third book might be about... same with all the names. But I’ll stop now haha. Generally it seems there’s a Chekhov’s gun principle in these books: things don’t get mentioned unless they will become relevant. Other examples are Sim’s family structure (hints at Caudicus having similar situation?m, as a younger non-heir from an aristocratic line), the lack of clear translation of the script over the archives and mysterious door, the legend of the youth using the rhinna flowers to save an ill princess (Cinder?), everything about Yll, Vashet’s poet-king vs Kvothe’s sword as poet-killer vs Sim as aristocrat-poet. There is a part in the name of the wind where it says "haliax and his seven" or something very close to that, if Fela's theory is right she couldn't be the eigth Chandrian, although she could be working for them. Also, it's true that Kvothe didn't saw the Chandrian kill all his people but they almost kill him if not interrumped by the ones they running from. I'm not sure what to think about Kvothe being a new Chandrian, but it could be that he becomes an Amyr? which from some stories I take that they can be cruel and bloddy for the greater good, I think that maybe the one that works for the Maer is an Amyr, the one that chases Caudicus. I think that the things that Auri gift to Kvothe are important, since are things she took from the underthing. Excellent video.

We know that most of the people who have talked to the Cthaeth have ended up changing there name, but at the expense of some part of themselves. A relatively common theory is that changing your true name confuses the Cthaeth and makes it unable to influence you. So what if that is what happened to the Chandrian? This theory does have a few problems, but I feel it is plausible as Haliax asks "who keeps you safe from the Sithe". And what is the Sithe's primary goal? To eradicate all influence of the Cthaeth, as well as hunting down and killng those who have talked to it.

The 8th person in drawn in the pot is a Ciridae Amyr. There is the tower with flames as well as the hand tatoos. Also it says that he is doing a gesture of "Rebuke"

I think that the vase shows 8 figures because there's an amyr too. Isn't it? Love your channel!

I don't know if this makes any sense for anyone but in spanish, "The slow regard of silent things" was translated to "The music of silence" ( La música del silencio ). I don't think that's a bad translation, maybe it has to do with Kvothe's silence.

I think that denna s patron is actually and he wants to keep denna safe either to spy on kvothe or for some other purpose. That is why he intentionally drives denna away just before the massacre. He also made sure that she was unconscious so that she could not interfere any more. Cinder was also close in eld forest, close to where denna was staying and as he left denna also left the place.

A lot of my friends refuse to read this series bc of the "chosen one/amazing hero" trope and bc Rothfuss isn't really super at writing female characters that are as deep and interesting as the male ones, and yeah I wish there were more women in larger roles/not love interests in the books, but I still really miss being able to discuss theories with people IRL, so I am SO glad you upload these videos! They're great, please keep them coming whenever you think of anything to share with us (no pressure)!

One thing that makes the Chandrian so interesting is how little we know about them. If you actually look in the books there is very little of the books that gives any information on them.

I just re-read wise mans fear, and noticed that "a ring that is not for wearing" (one of the things that supposedly opens the Lackless box/door) might have something to do with the wooden ring Meluan gives Kvothe thus proclaiming just how low she thinks of him. Kvothe is instructed both by Bredon and Stapes that "he should really not be wearing that ring" (which he wears to display he isnt ashamed of his Ruh blood). Before he leaves Severn he does remove the ring, but keeps it as a "memento".

One of the reason why people love this series is that It isn't done yet. Yes.... This incomplete story give people their own way, own scope of imagination and this makes it even more tempting and interesting.

I'm on the fourth re-read (10th anniversary edition). I'll tell you one thing I know for sure. 'Folly' - the sword that Kote hangs in the Waystone Inn - is actually Cinder's sword. Meaning that Kvothe has killed Cinder - and the name 'Folly' suggests this was a grave mistake. Meaning the Chandian/Cinder are not as 'evil' as they may seem.

About the first theory, they were 8 characters on the jar because nina describe the last one as an amir with the blood tatoos on their arms, she belives is another chandrian but is kvothe undestand that is an amyr so thats why.
@ravyo88213 жыл бұрын
That quote in the beginning with the lighting strike is kinda ironic since it was Kvothe who striked one chandrian with lightning in the woods ... or this is forshadowing that Kvothe is a Chandrian
@ShadowsHame03 жыл бұрын
The first theory, the vase drawing that Nina gives kvothe has an Amyr on it. Which would make it the seven chandrian and the one amyr equalling eight. It talks about the Amyr holding up a hand in rebuke to the chandrian.

Interesting, I think that all the hints to Cinder being Dennas patron might also just be bait ... Especially because it would fit to well with what the cathey(??) is trying to make Kvothe think

May be Cinder isn't cruel, maybe he is spiteful and has accumulated anger over the years. Maybe that's why Haliax stopped him from hurting Kvothe

I think Denna can be a Chandriyan or at least she is a trap set up by her Patreon who is Cinder! Remember in the wise man's fear she tells Kvothe to listen to the stones? She said she can hear them, this is shown as a coy move from her but I honestly think she is the most weirdest character in the entire books! Always changing names, Always moving, Always secretive, Always flirting with Kvothe but never goes in a relationship? I think Kvothe is her mission and not a love interest! Also remember she was interested in learning some sort of naming magic where writing something makes it happen! This is one weird ask, I think she was just testing them to know if they have any idea of such magic cause she actually knows this and uses on Kvothe to fall for her!

Remember when Kvothe humilliated Ambrose for negotiating the admissions tile price? Remember the "Modeg nobility find distateful to haggle"?. Well.. remember when Kvothe and Fela get their admissions tile, before Kvothe being poisoned with the plumb based alchemic anaesthesic? She elegantly refused to negotiate hers and insisted on actually never doing so. She dates Sim. Sim is a noble and cross-class pairments are uncommon in this kind of world setting. I don't know if she's Chandrian, but most definetly she's way more than we've so far seen.

Thought related to the Indian chanarayn mission - Chandra is sanscrit for moon -- Does that make then Moon men, or men who follow he moon -- Iax (or jax) being associated with stealing the moon or sealing it.

I think a lot of this is getting the Amyr confused with the Chandrian. I've always thought of Master Ash as one of the Amyr.
