Always cherish my trips to Dodger Stadium. Never forget my early trips with my Dad, a longtime baseball fan and native of Southern California. Had to get a Dodger Dog. I remember how clean the concourse was for the game. And how huge the place looked.

One thing that was not mentioned about Dodger Stadium is when it was first opened it was not Dodger Blue at all. The Stadium was a light aqua green color. The very first Major League Baseball game I ever attended was in Dodger Stadium on July 26, 1964. Sandy Koufax pitched against Willie Mays and the Giants. And believe it or not, the game did not sell out. Capacity at Dodger Stadium back then was 56,000. 49,429 showed up to see those future Hall of Famers. We were a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) and the total price for the tickets was $17. We spent $1.75 for hot dogs, $1.25 for the first round of soda pop, $1.40 for the second round. It was a very hot day! And we spent $1.50 for ice cream. We bought some visors for $.75, score cards were $.50, and parking was $1.00.

Went on the field during fan appreciation day in 1988. My dad had passed in September of 87. We took most of his cremated remains and spread them in the outfield. When Gibson hit the HR against the A’s we felt it was dad’s legs we spread that helped him up to bat.

My first time in Dodger Stadium was when I was 8 years old in 1966 and Sandy Koufax was pitching. I am not a big fan of the over sized rings. I like the oversized baseballs and numbers. I like the mid century modern feel of the stadium. Many case study houses were built in Southern California. This has to be the third oldest stadium in MLB and I hope it will never be torn down. It is such a classic design compared to the other stadiums built in different cities. The thing that upset me most was the Dodgers getting rid of Farmer John hot dogs. I was at a game a few months ago and the new hot dogs were just horrible. They were cold and tasteless. They were it on the grill for two seconds. I could tell the difference plus the Dodgers don’t have the onion machines anymore. One other issue that is very upsetting too. The new food management stopped Roger the peanut throwing vendor from throwing bags of peanuts. That was just so stupid. Roger is world famous and is a Dodger tradition. He is a Dodger ambassador and they need to bring him back to throwing his bags of peanuts.

I remember watching the 1962 Giants vs. Dodgers playoffs on television. The Giants came from behind to win the deciding game (as they did in dramatic fashion at the Polo Grounds in 1951). The reaction of some Dodger fans at the end of the game was to throw what appeared to be black seat cushions, all caught on camera. Nice way to show appreciation of their brand new stadium.

@johnsmith-md3rf
@johnsmith-md3rf 11 ай бұрын
Here is a badly needed history lesson for you. The cushions were rented to fans in the lower level box seats at 50 cents apiece. The tradition actually started early in the 1962 season and continued until they stopped renting the cushions in the early 70's. Workers found it was easier to pickup the cushions up off the field then walking through the rows of seats. And it wasn't some of the fans it was all of the fans.

@@alexsantiago6421 lol and you clearly don't know how to separate yourself between a fan and someone with logic. Stadium club seats cost and avg of $150 and she said it herself they are 60 years old... And is traffic not 4 hours in LA pretty sure it is. So live in the real world buddy and stop assuming because then you just look like an Ass. Been watching games at dodgers stadium since Nomo Hersh and Mondesi Pizza. Grew up with the Bakersfield Dodgers so watching Pizza as a minor league player. I'm just not someone who thinks 12 different shades of blue and some big baseballs that every single BLD is worth it. But I mean I can go up to Giants stadium spend $25 on a ticket get better seats, have Little to No Traffic, don't have fans fighting eachother every games.... List goes on and on but keep paying $100+ and getting blacked out of almost every televised game like most LAD fans.p

As much as I hate the Dodgers, I have to admit they are a class act. The Giants could take a few lessons from them. Such as QUIT changing the NAME of your stadium every few years. Build a FARM SYSTEM. Stop signing lend/lease FREE AGENTS. They are a waste of money. Stop the WOKE crap. Stop the ADS on every available inch of the stadium. Have a few promotions so REAL FANS can afford to attend games. (Not just on the internet). Stop RAISING PRICES every year. It sucks.

I liked the Dodgers during my baseball fan years, and I recognize the stadium's niceness. But this list could been more complete by including: 10. The place where screaming Hispanic families were forcibly dragged from the porches of their homes as the historic, stable Chavez Ravine neighborhood was stolen to build Dodger Stadium. 9. The office were outfielder Glenn Burke was fired because he was gay. 8. The clubhouse where Steve Garvey arranged business deals in which cheated dozens of people. Just sayin.
