The most embarrassing moment for me was also the m9st eye opening. I had just got a 50cc scooter and while leaving the dealership, a guy on a cbr 600rr was leaving at the same time. I said to hi that it was embarrassing to be on my scooter while he was on a cbr. He looked e dead in the eye and said "At least you're riding. That's what really matters. Not what you're riding."
@Drobium777 сағат бұрын
why was that embarrassing?
@Godric_717 сағат бұрын
@Drobium77 Because I was on a little 50cc scooter and felt small/pathetic because I couldn't afford an actual motorcycle.

@@Godric_71 matey, that is an actual motorcycle. We still get wet, get cold, can highside, can die at 50mph, can learn so much. any two wheeled bike capable of high speeds (faster than a horse) are worthy. I don't know why america is so small dicked about smaller CC bikes, maybe because they don't have little roads to pootle down like in the old world? but anyway, never feel embarrassed about the bike you ride, we are all brothers in arms!

My first bike was a 07 SV 650. In my first week, I was riding through a parking lot heading towards the exit. I panicked when someone was cutting across the aisles and I grabbed my rear brake super hard. At the same time I tried to turn away from the potential collision. Next thing I knew I hit my hip on the ground, cracked the tail fairing, but was otherwise left unscathed. I could feel my face turn hot from the embarrassment. I just thought to myself," I just wrecked my bike doing 10 mph in a parking lot. What a dumbass."

@@nonyabusiness4151 Trail braking is using the front brake progressively while slowing down entering and in a corner (by definition, turning), prior to reaching the apex and starting to add throttle at the same time as standing the bike up. This requires turning the bars.... not much, but it does. New rider, or just one that doesn't yet understand what trail braking is?

1982 @ the bottom of Yarnell Hill AZ the group I was riding with stopped to regroup on a slight downgrade. Getting off my bike I walked around the back only to realize the bike was rolling off the side stand!!! In a quick move I was able to grab the bar opposite the direction the bike was falling but too late and with my momentum and the weight of the bike (500+ lbs) it threw me over the top of the bike out into the road (no cars coming thankfully). I still had my riding gear on so I was unhurt and surprisingly the bike only suffered a scuffed mirror but I learned two things. 1: always leave your bike in gear when using the side stand, and 2: Karate really works as the bike used its weight and my momentum to fluidly throw me to the ground in a situation that I would normally not have enough strength to hold on to the bars. It was a brand new bike and I was so worried about its condition I didn't even think to be embarrassed.

That quick shifter on the GSX-8R, I’ve been riding regular bikes so long I still either blip the throttle or flick the clutch to quick shifter. I noticed the downshifting is very clunky otherwise. As for dropping the bike, yeah, I’ve dumped almost every bike I’ve had, naturally in a crowd or with other people around to point and laugh, lol. Ah well, it happens and we all laugh when it does. Is running out of gas more of a US thing where gas stations are spread much further apart. The general close proximity of the UK means you're normally not far from a petrol station (yes we call it petrol not gas) so even if you ignore the low fuel warning for a bit you can still get to fill up quite easily.

My 1980 Suzuki GS550L has a stupid little "cruiser style" fuel tank, with a reliable range of less than 90 miles, no reserve position, and a not-very-accurate fuel gauge. On several occasions, in the first couple of months I had it, it ran out while showing around 1/4 of a tank, and I had to lean it right over to the left to transfer enough over from the unused right side to get it to the next fuel stop. I've learned that lesson now, and don't let it go beyond 75 miles between stops.

Quickshifters are a useless fad that shouldn't have taken off with manufacturers. Clutch control is a vital skill in good riding, and its enjoyable to engage fully in the operation of the machine. It came standard on my new V-Strom, and the first thing I did was turn it off. Have never tried it; don't ever plan too. If you like a quickshifter, just sell the bike and get yourself a scooter.

😎👍🇺🇲 I was riding my RG500 and forgot to remove the disk lock (simple paddle lock). I was in a hurry parking to get clocked in on time and put it on the forward side of the disk. After work me and a buddy were trying to race each other out of the lot. The bike rolled about 3' with my feet on the pegs turned slightly to the left. It slammed me on the ground so fast I didn't have time to react. There I was on my side in the correct riding position. I causally looked up at my buddy, turned off the key and started laughing.😂 It was the funniest thing I'd done in awhile. The K&Ns got a little squashed but that was it. Besides damaged pride, no other breakage. Always put it on the backside of the disk. If you forget, it won't move at all (forward) and you'll notice it. I had other tricks to remember things too.
