I feel so sorry for rabbits as animals. They are so misunderstood. They can't vocalize that much, even when they are suffering, they do not show when they're in pain. They seem like these cute plushies who you can cuddle at any moment and then leave in cage like and forget about it. Thank you for spreading awarness, making effort to expose those who want to make money of these poor creatures. All the best to the girl who realized how bad breeding is, admitting it in front of the camera and convincing her mom to stop.

That’s my vet! She’s amazing, and knows her profession more than anyone I’ve ever seen, ever. My Guinea pig has been so lucky to have met her. Two successful surgeries and daily medications that have keep him mighty. My sweet boy is very strong.

I (just recently) became a bun mom when I found and caught a domestic bunny in a park. I found his previous owners and they told me that they dumped him because he kept escaping his outdoor enclosure so they stopped trying to get him back. I knew NOTHING about rabbits. But I knew he needed a home. I’ve watched pretty much all of your videos and I am now a very confident bun mom!

My ex did this. They had a rabbit that they were tired of cleaning and taking care of it. So they went to a park and let her go. I read that domestic rabbits can't survive in the wild and that rabbit most likely died within a few days. She just thought it would go off in the wild and be fine

Sigh...as depressing as this video is, I'm really impressed by the girl who admitted what she and her mom did. It's big of her to make that realization and now speak out about it. I don't lock her up and I always accompany her even though I'm tired from work. She is happy when I come. I love Her and I give her all the attention I can. I rescued my bunny from a lab. She was a lab rabbit for 3 years, her brothers and sisters are left behind but sadly she was the only one I could save and her brother that my friend has. I did everything I could to get this sweet girl out of there and now she’s so happy. My days are always better with her 🥺🤍.

@@tatiaa7206 it was very unlikely for me to do that. My friend knew the person that worked in the lab so we both made an adoption report and went there a couple times before rescuing the two bunnies. I honestly wouldn’t have been able to do it if it wasn’t for my friend. We just didn’t give up and fought for the bunnies to be given to us.

My rabbit would be living in a cage to this day if it wasn’t for this KZbin channel teaching me otherwise. I loved my bunny and wanted to give him as much space as possible but the thought of free roaming didn’t even exist in my mind. Thanks to this channel, my bunny moonshine roams freely around our apartment and gets spoiled with treats every day.

I do understand that it is not good to have a crazy amount of breeders, but I had a good experience with one. I bought my rabbit from the breeder when he was 6 months old, And he was well taken care of, the breeder knew what she was doing, she told me how to take care if him, what to feed him, and what some of his favorite treats were. My bunny is three years old now, and the sweetest thing ever. So although I understand where you a coming from, it is also important to know that not all breeders are bad, it's just important to be educated properly.

Exactly this. I'm getting an Angora bunny from a breeder next week. I specifically wanted an angora for their wool and docile temperament, but there are NONE available for adoption anywhere near me. I looked everywhere to find one to adopt rather than purchase but they just aren't there where I live. Not to mention, before I decided that I wanted an angora, shelters just didn't get back to me when I called to inquire about adopting from them. So now I'm buying a very cute little 4 month old angora bunny from a breeder. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Agreed. There are terrible people out there who will exploit any animal, and then there are the good people and breeders who want to educate those buying their rabbits. Those who do all the right things (even if not something you 100% agree with like with meat rabbits) shouldn't be held accountable for the actions of those that are just in "hobby" for the money.

I personally want to breed rabbits on an extremely small scale. Like one or two litters per doe, and then she is spayed (retired). Maybe start one line. (Don't confuse with line breeding. That's wrong.) I don't want anybody getting cancers, and I don't want to exhaust the moms, either. I just wanna see some cute babies once in a while, and give some people some well-socialized, healthy pets. Doing extensive research on hereditary health issues and signs, too.

Will you be addressing the counter argument that buying from a breeder is the better option compared to buying from pet stores, flea markets and shelters? At least when you go to a breeder you can see the animals living conditions and if the conditions are poor choose not to buy from that particular breeder. You can also see parents and siblings and have a better chance to identify genetic defects. You also get a better history on the animal than at the shelter and can choose one at the age you want, before it has behavioral problems.

Not all breeders are bad. My aunt is a yorkie breeder and she's amazing. Her puppies are very well cared for, healthy, and go to homes of people she knows or knows someone who gets them. There are a lot of BAD breeders but not all of them are puppy mills.

My rescue bunny came from a breeder. Hes terrified of hands and of being picked up especially. It took him 6 months to even start to open up. We bonded him to our spayed girl bunny and she is such a source of confidence to him. His personality has started to really show and it turns out he loves to jump on tables and push everything off lol. Hes still got a long way to go with the hands but hes willing to accept treats and be pet, face only, for a few seconds at a time now which is a huge improvement.

The conditions my rabbit came from were horrid. Rusted tiny cage and her mother was probably never ever let out if that cage. It’s the saddest thing. The first rabbit we saw, the one with all the cuts and scars, I think that one was the cutest. Such a little fighter! Praying for you bun buns. My baby Ludo had been in our local shelter for a few months as a give up bunny. His previous owners had him for 2 years or so, and to my knowledge he was an Easter bunny. It breaks my heart to think that he could've just stayed there until god knows when, or gone to a home to be mistreated or be given up again. When I worked at a ranch they had bunnies and I separated them got them fixed and microchiped and the ranch sold them. Luckily the vet I went to fixed them all for a good price. I gave all the adopters paperwork on each of them and told them to watch this channel. I get a lot of messages from the kids still on how they set up a space for their bunny. The ranch doesn't sell bunnies anymore after they spent more money on vet bills

Man this really breaks my heart 💔. However I appreciate this because it brings awareness. But it also breaks my heart because this hits home for me. I've been following your channel since I first got my rabbit named Shadow. I loved her and cared for her as though she was my own child and then I got arrested and that was the last time I've seen her.😢 A leasing agent at the building I stayed in took her in for me while I was incarcerated but during that time it was close to Easter and she wanted to get her for her daughter which worried me because like ur video expresses, that usually don't end well. But what other choice did I have? It was either have her turn in to the humane society or to the leasing agent so I felt a home would be better. But imagine being in a cage yourself but worried that your pet my end up somewhere worse. I was glad she ended up in a home but I wasn't absolutely sure if she was in good hands. It's been almost 4yrs since I seen my Shadow and till this day I cry sometimes wondering and hoping she's ok and I miss her so much. I hope she was lucky. The leasing agent no longer works at that apt complex so there's no way I can check up on the condition of my baby. All I can do is pray that she's ok out there and hopefully God will lead me to her someday. What you're doing is a great thing Loralai(excuse spelling) keep up the great work. You are a hero and a voice for the bunnies!

I knew absolutely nothing about rabbits I kept him in a tiny cage because that’s what I saw everybody do but then I found Lennon his life will never be better. I rescued my senior lion head from his previous home. He was “free roam” but with multiple large dogs… he only ate pellets and basically lived in a couch in fear. anytime he would come out for food the dogs would attack him… he has bad ptsd but I love him so much ❤️ I’m so glad I’m his bun mom

This really hits home for me.. my adopted British giant daisy was rescued from a extreme breeding situation she had 3 litters by the time she was 8mths living in a wire bottom cage 25 rabbits were seized along with 3 of daisy’s children. She was petrified when I got her, would throw herself into walls trying to get away from people. but after a year and a half she is now a pampered house rabbit living the life and is completely unrecognisable from the bunny I first rescued. I follow a rabbit rescue near me. Last year I adopted one of my wonderful rabbits from them. The amount of COVID-19 rabbits they had come in to give up, is so huge. They have about 150 rabbits and some guinea pigs and hamsters. If my own bunnies die someday, I will definitely adopt from them again

My friend wanted a rabbit for a while and learn almost all of the info from you. For Easter her parents took her to the shelter and got a small pair of 2 middle aged rabbits. They truly are spoiled. Sadly they don't free roam the entire house 24/7, but they have 24/7 free roaming in her room. During the day there Aloud To roam outside in the house for a few hours. Thank you for this educational video, I did experience guilt having purchased my bunny from a not so reputable breeder (which I found out after purchasing, they used to wean babies away from their mother too early (4-6 weeks), spread misinformation about their diet and giving them low quality pellets, a “pinch” of hay twice a day and not having to see a vet and getting the bunny spayed or neutered. I’ve done the research to do the best I can for my baby and given her free roam (thanks for the videos) and plan on getting her spayed. the next bunny we plan as a companion, we want to rescue. 🐰

I used to be involved in showing rabbits when I was a kid, and I was completely blind to everything I was doing wrong. I showed one rabbit for all 7 years I belonged to the club, and he was my whole world as a kid. I then got my own pet rabbit and did everything that rabbit showing taught me to do, which of course was all wrong. Your channel taught me and my family what to do four years ago and because of your channel, my rabbit Simon went from being in a wire-bottomed cage, with a poor diet, a water bottle, left locked alone all day to a happy 100% free-roamed bunny with a new bunny girlfriend named Trixie who we rescued and now helps him eat all the fresh greens in the world. Because of your channel, I rescued a special needs rabbit being given away for free who I rehabilitated and who is now my ESA, and because of you and Lennon, I went back to the rabbit showing club I belonged to, saw my old showing rabbit who is now elderly, and saw the damage that was done to him from being in that environment and I demanded he be released to me. He has eye damage from repeated untreated eye infections, arthritis, malformed feet from being in a wired cage for 8 years, and scarring on his feet from absesses from sore hocks that never healed, but he is as happy as ever and thanks to you and all that you have taught me, he is living out his final years with his new best friend Sully, my rescued special needs rabbit, free-roaming in my home. All four of my little misfit rabbits would not be living a happy rehabilitated life without everything that you and Lennon taught me, and I am certain that my two boys would not be alive. I appreciate everything you do on this channel and me and my bunny fam are forever grateful we found you and Lennon :)

I appreciate seeing this comment, my pheebie is almost a year old and still very timid and skittish while also grunting at me from time to time as i patiently sit around and observe her haha. She allows me to pet her from time to time but will quickly decide she’s over it. My partner and i call her the “sassy queen.” She’s free roam and binkies all the time, especially when we get home but then turns to act like she could care less about us,I’m hoping all my patience will get us somewhere, but I’ll love my sassy queen regardless.

I love this video. We received a bunny as a 6 weeks old baby from an accidental breeding (it happens fast, so spay and neuter!) We were going to adopt the momma. Got a sweet baby, had several GI stasis and emergencies, got tons of advice from house rabbit society and rescues. Shocking how clever, gentle, friendly, they can be. Ours finally cleared health checks for spay and vaxx. Happened this month and now I am ready to start looking for a neutered male rescue buddy, I am that into it now. Glad she is protected from unwanted pregnancy and cancers. I would love to foster if I could get my husband on board.

My family rescued to bunny’s earlier this year, they were two unnueuterd males being kept in a very small hutch outside. They had very bad scares and one had fleas. It was very saddening to see that people would ever do something like that to a living soul. If YOU are going to buy a living soul please research, do your best to take care of this beautiful animal.

Oh yep! Hey previous child rabbit breeder here. It was my step dad technically but I did 4H as a child (like ages 10-13). We did mostly rabbits for show (no meat pen- until the last year because I was told I had to) I wanted bunnies, as many children do, we had converted an old shed (used to be for chickens) to the bunny house, which would have been fine for ya know like 10 max with how big the area was. But my stepfather kept buying more at livestock auctions and by the end of the one summer I had like 100 at leasttt. That is tooo much for a 12/13 year old. I was responsible for watering and feeding and cleaning cages- which would take half the day to do. There was definitely too many. Over breeding, over crowded, injuries, cannibalism etc. When friends or potential people who wanted to buy one want to come over- I had to pre walk through to make sure no bunnies were half eaten, or missing a leg. It was awful. AWFUL. I loved them but it was way too much for me. A tree fell down on the converted shed and then a bear came around and most escaped or were snatched up. After that last year I said This isn’t cool anymore I’m done. And most were taken to livestock auction or to friends. Besides the ones that escaped. It still bothers me to this day, because I was just told I wanted it suck it up. But I wanted a couple max not over 100 😡😡

I got my Tango from a rescue because the pet store sold a family a male and female pair that were intact. All those babies ended up at the rescue. Now we can't imagine life without Tango The Destroyer! 🤣

Part of the reason why I recently started watching your videos was because I was thinking of having a rabbit of my own some day. I kept seeing cute videos and pictures of bunnies on twitter, completely free roaming with their own little beds and toys. The rabbits seemed to be happy! I have a netherland dwarf that was showbred, she’s white with blue Eyes and I adopted her. She is basically deaf, she has an uncurable parasite, she doesn’t know which poop to eat, she has problems with her teeth and reumatism and is only 6 years old. Aside from that she was Really scared of humans When I got her. Her former owner tried to fix her by spaying (this was not her original owner) anf then I got her and she is the sweetest bunny ever but her medical issues Are so expensive. But this just shows that breeders, even proffessional ones, have no idea what they’re doing. I come from Sweden also we’re the laws Are Pretty strict. Thank you Lorelei. As a vet tech at a shelter I know this crisis all too well. We recently helped a couple who ended up over their heads with 20+ bunnies when they took in some rabbits that their neighbors abandoned when they moved out. These sweet people even paid to have all of these bunnies altered. (We have since hooked them up with a local rescue to help re-home the buns). It’s easy for even good people to become accidental hoarders. I’m sure this video was emotionally taxing to make (and watch), but conservations have to start somewhere. On a happier note…next week, October 17 - 23, is National Vet Tech Week! Please tell those caring techs thank you, as it’s not an easy job and you will make their day! Believe me, they really do love your animals!

Where I live it's very common to have rabbits in cages only but I have spoken up and helped people change their decision to at least letting them free roam for a few hours in their house. I will NEVER get a rabbit from a breeder again but the one I got mine from were kept in large pens, they had information about how they need a lot of space, can be litter trained, and many more like how to rabbit proof. They were also very experienced and they had expensive prices which I appreciated because they were pretty thorough with making sure all of them went to great homes. Their rabbits would also each get special attention and had a lot of time in between litters to relax, still I want to adopt a rabbit if I ever get another rabbit

The breeder I got my rabbit from was the exact same. Excellent living space, thorough rabbit care, hay and pellet purchase suggestions, dieting recommendations. There are some good breeders, but the bad breeders are more common and harms the rabbit community.

Hey Lorelei I am so glad you made this video it brings such awareness to people. Me personally I got a bunny and I paid 150$ for him. This was before I started watching your videos I am very glad I have him though he is a sweet blue buck named Eeyore. If your interested at all I am studying to be a vet and I was reading my vet book and came across some animal rights organizations and the cool thing is that most science and animal programs cannot use rabbits anymore for testing and other things. But this does do not prevent people from doing testing on rabbits in secret. The scientists have to find a different alternative to using real animals and if they don't have one they can only use mice unless there are people working with rabbits specifically to help with illnesses that the rabbits have which is great. I went back to the person I got Eeyore from and asked if we could borrow one of her old breeding rabbits because Eeyore was at fair. She said yes and she also said that we could have her. We are good friends with the breeder now and I often go over to her house to give some love and feed banana and parsley to the bunnies and clean cages. Her setup is very sad she has one bunny that gets peed on because of the bunnies on top and a bunch of un-nuetered bucks in the same cage as well as does and a real mess of a place she has dogs running in and out of the bunny barn and babies in almost all the does cages. I now own the female rabbit Apricot she lent to us and the good news is this breeder is NOT going to breed bunnies anymore. Unfortunately it is only because they don't make her enough money. another bad news is she is breeding goats which I feel bad for the goats now. But I guess the bright side is that there is one less rabbit breeder in the world. Another bad thing is i know another breeder that is friends with the breeder I got Eeyore from and she is taking most of the females from the old breeder and some bucks I would confront her on this if her daughter and I weren't friends and if I wasn't only a teenager. I will keep trying though only to prevent as what I like to call a bunny break-out. Give Lennon a big hug and I hope you have a good rest of your day.

We adopted a family of 5 bunnies. The momma, who had been abandoned and later rescued by a wild life rehabber, had 4 babies 2 days later. We began the free roam process for them at 4 weeks of age. I am so grateful we get to give them a loving home after watching this. Their spay/neuter dates are already set (gonna cost over a thousand dollars) but they are worth it for us. I am grateful for this opportunity and hope since they are a family they remain bonded. Crossing fingers! With all that said.... Having rabbits is really freaking hard. It is constant cleaning for them to be properly taken care of. I do not recommend owning one at all but if you must, find a nearby shelter. Be committed to keeping your home and their litter box clean. Since having them home with us and sharing our space, we have actually done a much better job staying organized and clean...although I know that is not the case for everyone. I bought my lion lop from a breeder he is my best friend. He has turned into my emotional support animal and I can’t live without him. She is a good breeder I bought from she really cares about her bunnies and where they go. She answered all my questions about bunnies while I was waiting for crew to come home because he was too little. And she had me sign a contract stating that if I ever didn’t want him that I would give him back to her. It also stated all the things and commitments that go along with owning a rabbit. She also said that she does not sell rabbits to children or for children and she closes up shop 2 weeks for Easter because she does not do Easter bunnies. She really is a wonderful woman. I tried to rescue a rabbit but unfortunately there are no rabbit rescues in my area the closest rabbit rescue is four hours away and when I called them they said that they do not hold the rabbits and that they rarely get any in and when they do they are usually gone immediately. That’s when I started looking for a breeder and found her. I want to thank you Lennon and Lorelei because if it wasn’t for you I would have went with my mom’s advice from the 70s that rabbits belong outside in a hutch or inside in a small cage and they eat grass and other plants nothing else. I found your channel and I not only got the courage to finally get a bunny that I have been dreaming about since I was a kid but also I found out the way to properly care for a bunny. My crew is my whole world he is my best friend and I can tell I am his too.

A TON of breeders actually do this -- in fact, I've even seen meat breeders shut down sales the month ahead of Easter. This video spreads a lot of disinformation about what rabbit breeders actually do, using clips that are filmed completely out of context. Your typical breeder is not abusing their rabbits. Pet breeders (that breed lionheads, lops, and dwarfs) in particular spend a LOT of time handling their bunnies from DAY 1 of life because they are meant to go into people's homes. Show breeders also handle their rabbits a lot because you actually have to train them to be okay with being touched and held. If anyone wants to get angry about rabbits ending up in rescues, get mad at parents who buy rabbits like they're pet goldfish. Get mad at people who don't research rabbits before buying them and then discover they're SUPER expensive to spay/neuter but females can become aggressive at sexual maturity and males can start spraying. Get mad at people who think they're "freeing" bunnies by dumping them in the woods.

Thank you for making this video. Lucian was a child’s 4H project. He was sick and the family wasn’t going to give him vet care. A kind neighbor who has house rabbits took him to the vet on her own dime and found homes for all of the babies before they went to slaughter. I was working at the vet they brought him too. I nabbed him right away. Now he’s living his best life, but the other babies went together to be outdoor farm pets for kids.

We are getting our two new Flemish Giants from a breeder. We have visited and seen her set-up, the babies are well socialised, potty trained, raised inside their house with lots of handling, their two children are the sweetest and crazy about rabbits, and the adult rabbits are frequently brought inside to hang out with the family (around the babies of course). They are a very small operation and you can just tell how much they all love their rabbits. So we are very excited and I feel so lucky to have found this particular breeder. The examples in this video are shocking.

I have a local rescue just 2 blocks from me. It's ran by a woman and her two daughters. Binky Bunny Tales Rescue. I can never remember her name but she hosts yard sales and people donate unwanted items for those sales and every last penny goes towards the bunnies she rescues 🥺 Lol I bought my living room lamp from her! Volunteers come and help clean and spend one on one time with each bunny. She does post updates and adoptable friends on Facebook. The work she puts into it all amazes me. Best way to help with the issue is making it required to have a license to breed rabbits like the lady in the video said, but also have required inspections twice a year that breedera have to pass to keep the breeding license. 1 inspection being planned and the 2nd one being random at some point in the year so that beeders have to be on their toes at all times

I rescued my bun from a 4H breeder. She got lucky bc she was in such bad health. We get her fixed after she acclimated to us a little bit. But she was 3 when we got her and she had already had many litters of bunnies. I hope that it wasn't too late for her and she gets to live with us a long time. ❤ 🐇

When I was little, we had the typical bunny situation. Someone gave us 3 bunnies (told us they were all girls) next thing we knew we had 20 and we couldn't even give them away. We didn't keep them in a tiny hutch (but an outside building we heated) but being so far from the house they kind of got forgotten by us kids in favor of the cat. I love bunnies but that experience put me off getting bunnies ever again. I felt I could never get a bunny just to keep them outside, caged bunnies look so sad. Finding this channel, learning about free roaming; I might actually adopt a bunny know I know it CAN BE a part of the family.

I'm happy to have rescued all 4 of my rabbits. Two of them have unfortunately passed (Beau from old age and Morrigan was a baby who had a spinal injury. They've been cremated and with us forever💙). Bella was my first rabbit (she'll be 5 soon) and she was living in a plastic storage bin. She was underweight and losing fur behind her neck. Gimli is 3 and was living outdoors. We got him in February of this year and around the time it was raining.

Unfortunately I live on Maui in Hawaii and there are almost no rescues for bunnies on my island so the only option is to buy from breeders. I’ve asked rescues and the Humane Society to bring bunnies from California but it’s not something anyone will do

Hi! I also live in Hawaii (Maui then now Big Island) and yeah it really stinks! I have found there are still a lot of mistreated buns that end up in the humane society or up on craigslist which is unfortunate. There are some rescues on Oahu (T&J that I can think of) if you could fly over to get one but it is extremely hard! I have two bunnies right now, one from what I thought was a "good breeder" before I had done enough research and one that is a rescue. I wish we could help all the rescues somehow in Hawaii as well but its hard enough to find anyone that will even let you fly with a bunny.

Yeah I’m so glad you made this a lot of people see bunnies as cute animals for there kids and just leave them in such tiny cages and they find out something bad happens to there bunnies they don’t even know how important bunnies are they NEED to freeroam

In my 56 years, I've had three beloved rabbits. All one at a time. Two when I was in high school, so my precious mother took 90% of their care. One as an adult. I couldn't have loved anything more. Losing her was just too hard on my heart.

So I raised rabbits for meat. And loved every single one of them made sure that they were cared for. Not every single rabbit breeder is terrible. Sometimes people breed rabbits because they're the lowest cholesterol meat and it's better for their health. Also Europe and many other countries keep rabbit on their meat market because it is the most healthiest and most economically friendly as well as environmentally friendly made available. Rabbits have always been a meat source prior to the 1960s 1970s when they started to be seen as a pet source only. Please be more knowledgeable before you start leading every breeder into this evil category. My point being that not every rabbit breeder doesn't give a s*** about their rabbits. The first time I had to butcher a rabbit I cried cuz I didn't want to do it but my family needed it. We were struggling and we had to eat. But I quickly realized that the best respect I can give them is making sure that they have a high quality life before I have to use that meat. That is the goal of any breeder to make sure that whatever life you're giving to these animals it is high quality that you're not mistreating them. That should always be the goal

You raise rabbits so that you can murder them. The crying child, who didn't want to murder the bunny, who you used to be, had compassion and empathy. A bunny is alive and very much doesn't want to be killed. Excuses and explanations for murdering rabbits and other animals doesn't change that fundamental fact.

I agree with you honestly. I have a rabbit and I have chickens (I don’t breed or anything, my rabbit is my pet and so are my hens) but it kinda sucks to see that people will be attacking meat breeders or breeders who do actually do a good job. I’m a vegetarian but I still understand and acknowledge the fact that people will eat meat and that it is what it is. Like I love my hens and they’re my pets. If we are going to be bashing rabbit meat farmers then why not the entire meat industry. Hens are pets too. They’re smart and social and they are extremely affectionate my oldest 2 are almost 7! Breeders who keep their animals in small cages and inclosure or the egg industry for example where the living conditions are absolutely awful and they deserve to be bashed. As long as you’re taking care of your buns and giving them a good quality life for as long as you can It’s understandable imo.

@@simritsidhu536 this video is about rabbits and the poster you are responding to mentioned breeding rabbits for meat. That's why comments against breeding rabbits for meat are being made. It's not to the exclusion of other animals. No one has written "but it's OK if other animals are bred for meat". Rabbits are the topic and comments are staying on topic. Not mentioning the cruelty of the meat industry towards all animals doesn't make the comments that call out folks writing about murdering rabbits less poignant.
