Muse is great live. The Drones Tour was the first time I saw them and I was absolutely blown away by their sound and the amount of production that went into the tour. They are definitely a band I will see whenever they tour again, from here on out. The videos on KZbin don't do this band justice. Top 7 Vocalists in no particular order: Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day (love his snarl, and he sounds even better live), Matt Bellamy of Muse (love his smooth tone and range) Josh Ramsay of Marianas Trench (he has such a wide vocal range, it's ridiculous. Their latest album "Astoria" definitely showcases his ability, and what's great is that he can certainly hit those notes live as well), Davey Havok of AFI (really love his work on Decemberunderground), Tom Higgenson of the Plain White T's (his voice is quite smooth that it's lovely to hear it on different tracks), Brandon Flowers of The Killers (again, a soft? tone but can also be kickass), Adam Lambert (don't judge, but he also has quite the range. Again, tracks may have quite the amount of work done to them, but he can also hold his own live).

My Top Seven: 1. Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory: He was the first vocalist in metal to experiment with and incorporate the duality of clean and harsh vocals in his band's sound. His clean singing though is PHENOMENAL. He never received any vocal training, but he didn't need it because he's naturally blessed with an extraordinary set of pipes. He has an unbelievable range, and a very resonant and harmonious vocal tone. 2. Dani Filth of Cradle Of Filth: He doesn't employ any clean singing, but he's one of the most theatrical vocalists on the planet and an incredibly conceptual lyricist. He's a student of classic literature and his passion for history, mythology, Gothic horror, occult philosophy, witchcraft and poetry (to name a few subjects that appear in the lyrics) is reflected in the detailed lyrical storytelling. He has a unique vocal style that includes a signature banshee-esque wail that he's developed over the years and whenever I listen to Cradle's albums, I feel like I'm listening to a monstrous character providing narration and I love it. 3. Bjorn "Speed" Strid of Soilwork: It's been a long and winding road to the top for Speed and Soilwork, but they now occupy a place in Melodic Death Metal once held by the likes of In Flames and they (Soilwork) are presently one of the genre's most prominent and leading bands. Like Burton C. Bell, Speed has an incredible and very resonant set of pipes, and his vocals run the gamut from soothing low cleans to soaring highs to deep growls, high screams and aggressive yells. He's a very emotional singer. 4. Jonas Renkse of Katatonia: Katatonia's latest offering, The Fall Of Hearts, is an absolute masterpiece and a contender for album of the year. It's definitely a grower and it took me about 10 listens but fuck, Jonas' clean vocal work is unbelievable and this is true of his career with the band period. One of my favourite things about him is that he's beyond an amazing lyricist, he's a poet whose voice matches his lyrics and he showcases a perfect juxtaposition of beauty and desolation in his delivery (which also adds to the emotional power of the lyrics). He has a great range and the band's discography is littered with catchy vocal melodies and harmonies, but he's also very nuanced and accentuates/emphasizes certain words in lyrical passages for added resonance or effect. 5. Steven Wilson, solo artist (formerly of Porcupine Tree): Steven is the King Of Progressive Rock for a reason, because he's a multi-instrumentalist, a musical genius and geek for music. His vocal delivery reflects his personal preference to keep a low profile and, whether deliberately or not, he often sounds detached and aloof. His voice is evocative of Radiohead's Thom Yorke, but this makes him very compelling.
