Your video work (as your flying) is reaching new levels of interest and real-life detail. You’ve developed a knack for storytelling, especially focusing on general aviation as it contributes to your business and personal life. Well done. I used to watch FlightChops, however I’ve lost interest (as others I know) with his repeated “tail wheel” and “warbird” stories done repeatedly while he mooches off vendors that have nothing to do with the core of his presentations. Makes no sense to me! If any of the vendors are watching this creator, this is the type of person whose real world flying actually influences us, not the former. Just a hint! Good job Niko!

Niko, love the. Ideas. I’ve had a turbo cirrus for 10 years and still frustrated by hot starts. Based out of SoCal and almost didn’t get it started with my wife after having lunch on Catalina Island last week. Ugh…. Ended up having flood it and do a flooded start. Do you have a favorite hot start technique for a heat soaked engine? It’s the worst 0.5 to 2.0 hrs after landing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Dave
@NikosWings2 жыл бұрын
If it’s really hot out there and no wind, between 0.5 to 2 hours as you said are almost impossible to start. One thing that has worked when that happens, and you get zero fuel flow, open the throttle to full and mixture rich and run the boost pump and if needed the prime. Then, take your fuel sump and drain the gascolator until you get fuel flow (you’ll hear the pump grabbing fuel). Then hope in and start using hot start procedure. - throttle open - mixture cutoff - pump off - crank while bringing mixture slowly up - when it sparks mixture rich and boost pump on and retard the the throttle sumulteously
@davidburshtan5782 жыл бұрын
That’s great! Thanks so much for the reply. Everyone has a different way of doing it. Your method makes sense. Out here in CA I’m nervous about stopping for more than a half hour on the ground because of hot start concerns. I’ll give it a try in next day or two. I really appreciate the advice as I know you are faced with hot starts frequently.👍

Good luck! I hope it goes smooth. I’m sure you know how it is…you never want to see your passengers see you concerned. Ha! On Catalina there is no mechanic, FBO or Plan B. I was really concerned about draining battery. My wife started to cry as she worried about being stranded on the island. I remained calm (on the outside at least). I’m excited to try the new technique!

The DA62 is about same speed or a tiny bit slower, lower ceiling, no parachute, 2 engines double the maintenance and very expensive insurance unless you have tons of multi time, and needs bigger hangar or FBO hangar. The bargain is cheaper fuel and more availability of fuel globally but not in the US as much but it still burns more fuel than the Cirrus overall.
