If you ever get the chance to put a few miles on an older Ferrari, you'll see exactly how that gated shifter adds to the character of those cars. The older, '50s models, are obviously out of range of most of us, but the 308s thru the TR512s all are very visceral cars to drive. It's not just about how much power one particular car may have. I drove several of the 308 series working in a couple of Ferrari shops in the late 80s and early 90s and if you're out on a 2 lane back road with minimal traffic, a 308 Dino GTB4 will just make you forget the work day. The shift is perfect. The handling is excellent... I'm talking about 7-8 10ths highway driving, not 9-10 10ths race track driving. There's adequate power to enjoy the day without scaring the crap out of you when some SUV comes lumbering around the next blind turn. I always got the feeling that a 308GTB or GTS or even a 308 Dino GTB4 (some still feel it was the best handling of the bunch!) was a car you could pull on like a comfortable pair of old jeans and just blast down your favorite back road. These are just great cars to drive. Don't be distracted by the "panache" and all that crap. The cars are too good to be wasted on those who don't appreciate their talent!

@@Sube-Tube Indeed. Cars today are great as a means of transportation, safe and comfortable but very few can deny that they are dull and lacks personality as you said. My interest for modern cars and modern sports cars is pretty much non existent, there is nothing exciting about them honestly.
@Skumtomten14 жыл бұрын
@@Sube-Tube Also, I can already tell a massive difference between driving my dad´s modern Audi a4 and my grandfathers Renault Megane 1998. The sense of speed is just vastly superior in the Renault, smaller hood and being closer to the surface, worse suspension system, manual instead of automatic etc. All contributes to making the car feel more like a "car" and is just more fun to drive, the Audi feels like driving a train in comparison.

It's because these cars are overvalued and over priced. Once a car get beyond a dollar figure where no owner in their right mind would ever drive one, that is a bad thing. So these overpriced vehicles which are meant to be driven are left to languish in peoples shrine like garages and warehouses getting crusty and then need recomissioning to get them mobile again so they can go to another once a year show.
@MrGaryGG486 жыл бұрын
Another side to that point of view is that when a car reaches those outrageous prices, it becomes seriously improbable that they can actually be totaled. With an original serial number plate, a replacement car can be (and has been several times) created. Still... at $50M, maybe not!! 1/14/2019: I just read a comment on a Goodwood racing video a couple of days ago that this brought to mind. I don't remember the date of the race but there was a 250GTO just hammering around that track in some pretty tight competition. A couple of folks commented that it was not an original GTO but was created out of another 250 or maybe a 330 GT of some sort, also with a Colombo V12. It was built to closely resemble an original 250GTO and the owner was having a ball racing it without worrying about putting $10M-$20M or more at risk. It wasn't being offered for sale as a bogus original but it was a Ferrari and the owner was racing it in a "Sportsman" environment without having a heart attack if someone bumped it. Think of it as a pretty radical example of a "Resto-Mod." As the prices of the originals disappear into the stratosphere, I wouldn't be surprised to see more of these in club races.

The engines of the pass you can hear the valves camshaft . You can feel the motor itself driving these cars. And the transmission and rear end. Love to hear those gears. I had 70 Olds 442. The sound of the 455 with headers and M21 trans ,3.91 rear end. Man that was a machine. You can hear everything working. Today it's computers.😒

It's Jan 2019, and this is still the best video on Petrolicious. I wish they had footage like this on all of their videos. No talking, no background music, just the sound of the car driving around. It would get the viewer closer to experiencing these rare cars. One of the best videos that actually balance the interview and car well is the Dare to be Different 240z. Don't get me wrong, some of the interviews are great, as in the Martini Mustang video. I do love the quality of the footage. Maybe it's just me being more interested in the cars, wanting to hear and see them, more than the people who own them.

new ferraris are capable but fugly. this car is rolling art
@fredlabosch51646 жыл бұрын
No, I have to disagree. Most people that buy modern Ferraris buy them because they want to comply to a certain image they have of themselves in order to impress those around them, and they want to achieve that in the most comfortable way possible. Driving THIS requires skill and is actual work. The first thing few people have, the second even fewer are willing to put up with.
@BoUrnNe266 жыл бұрын
@@fredlabosch5164 I agree with the image thing. That's my problem with Ferrari ever since they created the Enzo. After that model, almost everything they made since then is so freakin flashy in looks. Give me a 550 any day of the week. It is so beautifully understated. The only modern Ferrari that comes close to that imo is the GTC4 Lusso.
@derbigpr5006 жыл бұрын
Fred Labosch That's a gross misunderstanding. A lot people assume that, but it's not the case. Sure there's always a rich guy here and there who just buys a Ferrari because it's a Ferrari, but the majority of owners ACTUALLY are into cars and actually love driving and love the brand. Ferrari's are one of the few modern cars which still actually are fun to drive, that make you feel completely connected to the car and the road, and have a very analogue feel to them, and actually award talented drivers. It is a REALLY hard trick to pull in a highly technological car, making it drive like an old mechanical car, but with all the finesse, refinement, safety and pure performance of a modern car. Nobody else really pulls it off to that extent, which is why Ferrari's virtually always win all head-to-head comparisons to other cars, simply because once you drive one, any other car you put next to it just doesn't feel as good to drive and has that modern dullness to it with a lack of feel and connection between you and the car. They aren't just made for numbers on paper and for spec sheet boasting like so many so called performance cars are today, even though they can do that too. Ferrari actually won't even sell their cars to just anyone. For example, La Ferrari's were sold only to costumers that Ferrari as a company deemed worthy and knew very well, and all of them are true petrolheads and car lovers who owned many Ferrari's before that and their histories were well known. Not only that, but a couple of pro race car drivers who are also owners of the La Ferrari stated that the way it drives reminds them of the race cars from the 60's that they also drove on tracks during those old Legends events. A lot of people said it's like the modern version of old race cars in the way it feels. Ferrari's are often underrated nowadays and mistaken for these show off machines that people buy for status, but that's just not the case, they are most probably the best cars money can buy today, specifically because of the way they manage to mix incredible performance and modern features, comfort, luxury, quality, refinement (a lot of people don't realize just how refined and comfortable they are) with the mechanical and analogue feel and a sense of complete connection to the car, like old cars used to do. They really take the best of the new world and the old world and mix it together perfectly, which is what makes them so satisfying to drive. Same with Porsche's for example. Go to any race track in Europe and they're literally full of them, and it's for those exact reasons.
