Another excellent thing for nausea is ginger. Real ginger root …cut coins & boil in fresh water 20 minutes for maximum benefit. I wonder if it would be possible for you to help the rest of us clarify some terminology and its implications for our foods. Specifically, could you clarify: Genetically modified organism Bioengineered engineered ingredients Organic Pasture raised Cage free Natural ingredients Meat glue Sucralose I notice these labels on various foods all the time, and wonder what these terms all mean. I especially now see “GMO”, “Contains bioengineered ingredients”, and “Sucralose” on ever so many foods now! If you could, please help us figure out what these all mean! Many thanks for your very valuable expertise for all-around prepping and food storage!
@danniemcdonald7675 Жыл бұрын
Sucralose is an artificial sweetener made by adding chlorine to the molecules. Brand name is Splenda. Since it is supposedly cheaper than sugar, a lot of food companies switched to it. I, personally, stay away from it because it tastes terrible ( my opinion ) and cause me to have stomach issues.
@kittyrichards9915 Жыл бұрын
I am not an expert, but sucralose is an artificial sweetener. Artificial sweeteners come under many different names.
@Pmwalls46 Жыл бұрын
@@kittyrichards9915 Sucralose, Dextrose, High fructose corn syrup, among many others, are sugars. They are in so many foods it’s insane. Oils like corn oil (gmo corn), canola oil, and others are highly inflammatory. Reading labels is an important thing to do. If an ingredient list is long, I usually avoid the item. So many things the USA uses in foods are banned in other countries. I’ll never understand it. Sticking to whole foods is the healthiest thing you can do for your body.
@firequeen2194 Жыл бұрын
GMO is scientifically engineered ingredients. They are designed for climate, disease resistant, etc. Think of it as the exact opposite of heirloom seeds which trace their genetics back to a single plant. Keep in mind that hybrids can come naturally due to cross pollination, not necessarily genetically modified.
@cbagot Жыл бұрын
The gmo food is genetically modified so they can spray Round Up (aka glysphosate) on the plants. That chemical causes cancer and there was a huge lawsuit where the chemical company lost the suit, but can still spray the food. Round up kills the weeds but not the plants. The main ingredient in glyphosate is also the main ingredient in Agent Orange. I don’t know what else they modify plants for.

@@JanineMJoi Pumpkin Dog Biscuits: 2 eggs, 1/2 cup pumpkin, 2 Tab dry milk, 1/4 tea sea salt 2 1/2 cups brown rice flour, 1 tea dried parsley. The salt, dried milk and parsley are optional. I usually make as directed. I have all things in my pantry. Preheat oven to 350. Whisk eggs, pumpkin to smooth, stir in dry milk, sea salt and parsley. Add brown rice flour gradually to form dry dough. Turn onto lightly floured surface. (I will add a tiny bit of water or a little more pumpkin if too dry) Roll to 1/4 - 1/2 “ thick. You can use shapes or just cut the dough in squares or triangles. Place on cookie sheet (no greasing or paper) Bake for 20 min and turn over, bake another 20 minutes. Remove and let cool. They should be crunchy. Store in zip lock. If you make small cookies, you can freeze them until needed. My oven cooks fast so I don’t leave mine in for the whole time. Each batch makes 75 small or 50 medium biscuits. They are great for most dogs but especially senior or dogs with sensitive stomachs. I will make a double batch, I have two dogs 18 lbs and 28 lbs. I have made these for years. (You can substitute the brown rice flour for white rice or alternate flours other than wheat based) You can still use wheat, I just prefer the rice flour. Good luck. 🐶

Now I know next time when I’m going shopping, what really amazed me is that those foods are basic pantry staples! No hard to get them! Since everything right now cost an arm and a leg, it’s refreshing to hear that a can of beans are still healthy! 😂 I’m traumatized when internet make us believe that nutrients dense products have to be expensive! Thank you again for this invaluable information ❤❤

It’s even cheaper to buy dry beans and can them yourself!

I had a hard time finding jarred artichokes that weren’t packed in seed oils of some sort but finally found large jars of artichoke hearts packed in water at Sam’s Club. A bonus is the beautiful jar they come in - so handy for storing other things in after eating the artichoke hearts!

My husband eats really healthy everyday with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, and hardly any meat. He doesn’t eat a lot of candy nor does he drink soft drinks (pop/soda). He’s 67 and still works and with his job he gets plenty of exercise. With all of this he still has high blood pressure. He takes natural supplements for his blood pressure and not a statin medicine. It’s great to see this video and I’m going to buy a lot of these foods from this video.

Artichokes in water usually lg jars too much for one time use but they don’t last long after opening so I found draining ,putting them on parchment lined cookie sheet then in freezer ,once frozen in zip lock bag , love artichokes so versatile

If you are in the south in warm climate, there areafew varieties of pumpkin hjat do well-Cherokee Tan is one. Also- sweet potatoes are similarly dense in calories and love warm weather. Additionally, winter squash, such as butternut, store well like pumpkins and are nutient dense.

PUMPKIN CHIPS! yeah, num. Canned pumpkin can be dehydrated into chips, seasoned with flavors you like. You can take a parchment sheet, your dehydrator tray, and with your off set spatula spread a can on one or two trays, about 1/4 inch thick, they dry very thin, make a large square or rectangle, season with salt or cinnamon & sugar, or salt. Then you can drag the edge of the spatula or a table knife in square lines over the wet pumpkin spread. This dries so nicely and you have easy pumpkin chips, store some for long term, desiccant and oxygen absorber, but they really go fast for a treat during a gathering.

My family goes through a hundred cans or more of pumpkin every year. It really helps fight acne from the inside out for my teens and is really helpful to avoid constipation.

Recipe Included for Pumpkin Ice cream.. LOL.. You mentioned pumpkin, and I just made Pumpkin pie ice cream in my new little freezer. One that self freezes, no ice or putting a bowl in the freezer first. Worked well and turned out pretty good. Holds 1.5 qt In a pan, mix , 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup reg white sugar, ( Edit. I took out 2 teaspoon after measuring on new batch) 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/8 teaspoon clove. Edited, optional ( added this in new batch, took to work, they liked it.) 1/8 teaspoon Nutmeg 1/8 teaspoon salt Mix together to incorporate the spices into the sugar. Add 1 cup of 100%pure canned pumpkin ( I used great value brand ). Mix together with the sugar & spices. Add 1-1/2cup of half & half milk. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla Slowly heat and stir till all sugar dissolves and heat to 170 to 180 degrees. Allow to cook for 4 to 5 min. Allows some water to be removed through steam. Don't want to scorch so needs to be stirred. Allow to set and cool, no lid, 20 minutes, stir a few times while it cools. Add 1 cup cold heavy whipping cream, 1-1/2 cup cold half & half. Chill in fridge, time verys depending on what you use to make it into ice cream. I did like 20 min. This has its own compressor to freeze it.. a ice & salt or the freeze bowl type you want it pretty cold to start so the time would be longer. Mine sets the time for 1 hour to freeze and churn. I got it through the everything online store, that everyone knows. If anyone is interested.

The best nutrient dense canned food is... HALVAH! It is made with sugar, so dieters can buy tahini instead. Chickpeas can be used to make FALAFEL. If you have vegetarian friends, you need to learn to make this. And a note on pineapple--I recent bought some canned pineapple at a dollar store, and it was the worst I've ever tasted. So before buying in quantity, test a sample.

Good list, I have all of them in my food storage, but know you and Jim are greatly appreciated! thanks for sharing!😊 I dehydrate my pumpkin, and do you have a recipe on how to can Salmon???
@randimochamer6284 Жыл бұрын
Can salmon just like any other meat as per Ball book recommendations. It’s very easy. Just stuff the steaks into jars. Salt if you choose. No water or broth… cold/ raw pack. I think the process can time is 75/90 minutes pints/quarts. It will make its own oily juice. Skin and bones will flake away from the meat when you open it. Very easy to can….

@@randimochamer6284 Well, I can lots of meat so was double checking before attempting that, lol...how MUCH juice will it make and SHOULD you use some cooking liquid? I have some trout in the freezer I'd like to can...

I like pumpkin in my morning protein bullet blender drinks. I alternate between banana and pumpkin! Also tasty hot as a simple side dish with meals. Walmart has Great Value 100% Pure Canned Pumpkin, 29 oz can for about $2.50 ($2 less than name brand Libby) and no taste difference. Thanks for your video!

Thank you for sharing such informative information. I use black beans in soup, chili with kidney beans and in the calico baked bean recipe. I also use a lot of tomatoes and try to keep stocked up on an assortment of them. The garden didn't give me enough this year.

I'm glad I watched this video, since I've heard a lot of negative things, about canned goods. I use to can another myself, for many years, when I had large vegetable gardens. And coincidentally, I've had a can of pumpkin in my pantry, for a long time. Now I know what to do with it. Also coincidental, I went to the University of Wyoming, tho only my first year. And recently, I drove through southern Utah, and liked it very much.

I also make pumpkin muffins with the exception of using flax eggs and walnuts and raisins. I batch cook them and pull one out as a snack. I have noticed that most canned fruit is expensive. I will have to pay more attention to getting them on sale. I thought lentils would be on the list but was surprised it wasn't. I have all those I eat daily or weekly with the exception of the fish.

If you’re looking for a yummy crunchy, treat while watching a movie instead of making popcorn, you can season and air fry any bean you choose that is canned just drain it rinse it season it throw it in the air fryer and they will crisp and make a nutritious dense flavorful crunchy treat. You can do it in the oven too but I find it easier in the air fryer.
