Today when my man texted me saying, I love you, i responded with, that makes my heart happy followed by saying i love you too. I told him that because seeing that text really did make my heart happy. We're an older couple who have been seeing each other for 8 months and it's also a long distance relationship. So verbal communication and texts are very important. Hopefully, we'll figure out a way to actually be together. We see each other about once a month for a few days. He is the one doing the traveling. But i still feel very fortunate to have him in my life at this late stage in life. We both live alone and have limited incomes. Nothing about this relationship says long term but at this point in life just having someone to share your thoughts with everyday makes life worth living. Fyi, he's 76 and I'm 83. Believe me when i say, you're never too old to give love and be loved 😍

These are some great suggestions. These phrases are various forms of appreciation, trust and respect. So I'm FLOORED and a little triggered right now reading through the comments... I don't understand why some people are triggered by these ideas (not everyone, but some people). Men aren't the only ones capable of being broken and needing therapy.... Let's look at these: 7 You're my hero - This is appreciation. And I honestly thought this would be closer to #1. Making your man feel special. DO you appreciate you man? If you do appreciate you man, this shouldn't be an issue. If you DON'T appreciate you man, why the hell are you with him? 6 I trust you - Trust is the foundation of any relationship. You SHOULD trust your man. Why not tell him? It's another form of appreciation and men want (NEED) to feel useful. If you DON'T trust your man, then again, why the hell are you with him? 5 Whatever you think - Another form of trust and letting him make the decision at least once in a while. I literally see zero issue with this. 4 I apologize - This is RESPECT. And like "trust" is essential for a healthy relationship. Your man isn't perfect and will mess up, but YOU aren't perfect either. If you can't own up to when YOU make a mistake (and own up in a respectful way), you have some work to do on yourself. 3 You're right - Do I need to explain this one? Men want to be useful. And people in general like being told that they're right about stuff. Makes them feel valued. If you value your man this shouldn't be a problem. If you don't value your man, why the hell are you with him? Why would anyone have a problem with this one? 2 Thank you - Appreciation. Men want to do things for you. They want to be useful and helpful. So let them and be thankful. If you appreciate you man, this shouldn't be a problem. If you DON'T appreciate you man.... you know what I'm going to say. 1 I feel... - 🤷🏻♀ This one surprised me. Zero issues, it's not a problem. Just surprised. But why not be open about how you feel? Trust, respect, appreciation and open communication are essential to a healthy relationship that can stand the test of time. So if (healthy) men want to know how you're feeling, why would that be a problem? (If you don't feel safe enough with your man to be open about your feelings..... fill in the blank. 😉) 👉 If the idea that you should be trusting, respectful, appreciative and open with your man is triggering you, you are either with the wrong man and you need to leave, or YOU are the one who needs therapy. Bad. Before your next relationship.

Be careful when apologizing! Some men take an apology from a woman, very badly. They don’t see it as a woman taking accountability, they see it instead, as a tactic and vicious manipulation.

@ericataney2 ай бұрын
True. Real narcissists and abusers need individual therapy and healing; your kindness can't fix them, and too many women aren't aware of this. I'll add one other caveat: Addicts won't respond in a healthy way to these tender intentions either. Pornography is a HUGE destroyer & corruptor of men (AND women) and other addictions can be relationship wreckers too! Steer clear.
@denisecastellanos4866Ай бұрын
In my experience, with the right man, you won't be able to help other than to shower him with praise and appreciation. It comes naturally when the man you are dealing with really is a good one.

Greetings from Croatia ❤ Great advice, except, the instruction you offer would be GOLD if we were dealing with mature, rather healthy (emotionally), and masculine men. For this to work, a man should at least check these three boxes, so to speak. But a vast majority of men are nowhere close to it. And I'm not saying it lightly. Try showing your man you are willing to follow his lead or say you feel sad. He will respond with a dangerous rage. And that is not an exception; today, it's a norm, unfortunately. Even when it comes to Christian men.

Only express trust in him if he is actually trustworthy (some will use this against you to reject all accountability. My ex accused me of bad-mouthing and slandering him when I would tell others about his abusive behaviours (after years of keeping it mums hoping that he would change 🙄). He thought that he could behave however he pleased, and he was A-OK, but I couldn't breath a word to anyone or else I was disrespectful.
@isabelleboulay26512 ай бұрын
trust is earned in any relationship. So the words can only be said if he has earned that trust. Letting him lead in a situation means you trust he'll make the best decision possible for both of you. For that, you have to be sure he has the couple's interest at heart. This doesn't happen overnight and it can sound fake if you're not there together. Some of these examples here are antiquated. Men are not heroes nowadays. They might be appreciated for protecting from harm and being smart about organizing trips and endeavors by preventing issues with their knowledge, but there's no knight in shining armor here. A man that needs to feel like he's a hero is living in a fantasy. Women are much more independent today, what she can tell him is to make decisions and make action where he's more proficient than she is. It's about identifying what each partner is great at and allowing them to shine through it while appreciating their involvement.

It’s a bit contrived and disingenuous to trot out these hackneyed phrases. What you say and how you behave towards each other is what cements the bond. Working down a list of phrases someone recommends you use to with your man is psychological manipulation and therefore has no deep genuine value to either party. Human beings are not created according to a blueprint - we are all different so a formula such as this is … ??? Yes - I think disingenuous and manipulative.
