About the transition from sand to grass part, I think adding gravel, andesite, stone would be good! Since real beaches usually have rocks and boulders in the transition part.

LMAO i did kinda predict that! granted, i think a lot of people have wanted mangrove trees in swamps for a while, but it's nice to look back on older videos and see what's changed in the game since then

Quick simple easy. Just how I like it. Any tips on rivers?
@LeonSBU3 жыл бұрын
oooo i will think about it and add it to my list!
@fruitygranulizer540Ай бұрын
another tip inline with not over-doing bonemeal: bonemeal randomly adds random-colored flowers throughout the grass. irl, you will rarely see random colors of flowers dotted around randomly like that, and it doesn't look that good. what you will see are patches/groups of the same type of flower in certain areas as they grow and pollinate in the same vicinity. to get this, this is something bdubs does and works really well: remove all the flowers as you bonemeal, then go back and put in patches of the same color flower wherever you think necceessary. if you go overboard, it becomes a flower-field, which is fine! but don't mix differnet colors of flowers too much.
@LeonSBUАй бұрын
agreed - the default flower patterns are often too distracting and overwhelming. i like using bonemeal for subtle patches of grass, like you described

i can! that sounds like a dope building idea, might take me a while to get that done since i'm not the most experienced with mountains, but it sounds like a fun project :)

What I'm struggling with during terraforming is what could be called "randomness". When building, I very much prefer strict, orderly lines and reusable patterns, but such things should not be used in terraforming, because they make it look clearly artificial. Yet I cannot bring myself to do anything else. I've been terraforming an island for building. It used to be a hilled peninsula covered with trees, which I separated from the other land, deforested completely and flattened out to have enough room for building. Though, recently I've added even more landmass to it, due to some change of plans, and I tried making it look as vanilla as I could. Not even for it to look pretty - rather just to blend in with regular terrain. Yet I feel like I've still done a very poor job.
@Bumble._.Jellybottom9 ай бұрын
eh, just dont think about it too much. when digging away things i try to weave a little bit, rather than in a straight line. And if im building up like a hill or something i mimic the shape of the last layer, with some adjustment, and dont put it too close to the edge of the last one. You could probably study the normal terrain and try to copy it
@LeonSBU9 ай бұрын
it's difficult to break out of habits! i don't blame you at all for having trouble with this - getting terrain to look good is incredibly tricky. i think @Bumble._.Jellybottom's advice on studying normal terrain, even something as simple as looking at the shapes of terrain in your existing world and trying to copy it, is a great start. beyond that, i suggest trying to "see the forest instead of the trees"! by that, i really mean that, instead of looking at your terrain as individual blocks, try to take a step back and see the entire thing as one continuous piece of land. if it's looking too blocky in some areas, add or remove a few blocks to really smooth it out! sometimes, though, the terrain you're working with just isn't big enough to not make it look blocky. in that case, you might just have to add more terrain...or you can always change plans and make the island look manicured and man-made on purpose!
@outcast40879 ай бұрын
@@LeonSBU I'm sorry, I don't think I fully understand the advice... Does it require some special mindset to terraform well enough?
@LeonSBU9 ай бұрын
no worries! yeah, essentially what i'm suggesting is, instead of looking at the individual blocks, try and look at the entire landscape as one singular entity, and find what spots you can add/remove blocks from to make the entire thing have the shape that you like! i know it's really esoteric advice, i'm not the best at describing things, but i hope this made some sense 😅
@outcast40879 ай бұрын
@@LeonSBU well, like I said, I lack "randomness", I am a very "artificial" person, so to speak. When looking at a landscape, I can't really see where to add blocks, and even when I do, I still tend to follow some sort of a pattern. It's easier for me to see where to remove blocks, though that's only because I'm subconsciously trying to make the terrain look neat and uniformed, which quite often leads me to outright flattening out big chunks of land, which in the end obviously doesn't look good.

I feel like this is better for just looking at, no multiplayer or even singeplayer use. For example, I'm terraforming a world to eventually use on a server. It would make no sense for me to use green concrete powder on the ground or mix dripstone blocks in with granite on top, it's just no realistic
@LeonSBU2 жыл бұрын
i get what you mean, i was definitely going for aesthetics over practicality, and plus it's an older video of mine - there are definitely some ideas here that i disagree with now 😅 ty for bringing it up though!
