@@LivingInVancouver-BC I came from small town Saskatchewan. So now it's been more than 2 months since I moved here. I'm living in Burnaby and I love the city. To my surprise, the overall economy and job market is horrible. Other than that, it's a perfect place on the West coast.

@@sha6577 Hahaha. It's been a mixture of anxiety and joy. The city itself is wonderful and full of beauty. On the other hand, economy and job market is in awful shape. I'm also surprised by the lack of warmth in local people and difficulties I'm facing in making friends 😂

@LifeOfHum I bet winters are a bit of an improvement but you must be missing the sun right about now. As for jobs, very little hiring happens at the tail end of the year anywhere in North America. I have no idea what industry you are in, as that will make a difference of course...but I think you'll find more opportunities will start opening up in the coming months. Again, congrats on making a big move!

It was all like that a few years ago. Today, the drug scene of the Eastside has reached into the Westside of Downtown Vancouver and the Lower Mainland is generally overcrowded. No need to go anywhere on the weekends, because most parking lots will be full. I am fortunate enough to be self-employed so I can decide to travel somewhere during the week while everybody else is working, but the majority in this city is not that lucky. Also, it is way too expensive to simply have a roof over the head. The city has potential to become what it used to be or even better though.

Hi @ImTheBlade65. Appreciate you checking out the channel! There's certainly a high demand for any healthcare professional in the Vancouver area but generally my understanding is that the earning potential is lower here than in the US. You'll also want to look into the licensing requirements when you return to Canada. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you have if you'd like to shoot me a text/email!

Hi! Glad you enjoyed the video! Unfortunately there are no professionals that represent tenants in BC. Your best bet is to use websites like Craigslist and FB marketplace to find a place but you may find it difficult without being here in person. A temporary furnished rental is a solid interim option. You can also try reaching out to property managers but they will only be representing the landlord. Hope this helps! Reach out if you have any questions.

There has been lots of pop up video every day that the Vancouver is not to live as huge monthly cost, is that true?what about international student life there will they able to manage or not

@LivingInVancouver-BC 9 ай бұрын
@judeemersonthiyagarajah7456 you might want to check out my other video about the cost of living in Vancouver that’s more general. Outside of rent many things in Vancouver are actually less expensive than most other places in Canada (like tuition, car insurance, utilities, etc). I don’t know your financial situation but it’s definitely possible for an international student to have a good time in Vancouver.

I find the water in Vancouver quite unpleasant. When I used to live there when I was young and slightly feral, I learned that green grime would accumulate in your tube pretty quickly if you didn't clean it regularly. Absolutely drink the tap water, but (especially in the summer) filter that stuff.
@LivingInVancouver-BC
@LivingInVancouver-BC Жыл бұрын
Interesting. I haven’t experienced that. By tube, do you mean your faucet? Did you have that experience in different places throughout the city or was it just one source?
@leeraewi
@leeraewi Жыл бұрын
@@LivingInVancouver-BC Sorry, I meant tub, as in bathtub! I lived in the West End, and this was a while ago. I think it would take about a week for the green to start to show. Here in Toronto, where I live now, it's the orange mould that is a problem. It starts to form in the toilet bowl within three days of not cleaning. You have to be sure to regularly wipe faucets, though one imagines it is also built up in the entire system of the water supply, which is a good argument for filtration, even though the water is good and safe to drink.
@LivingInVancouver-BC
@LivingInVancouver-BC Жыл бұрын
Ah ok! I suspect that might have been an older building with copper pipes that you were in in the west end? The water itself here is incredibly clean…but the last few meters of pipes will have an impact depending on the age of the building here for sure. But you are right, running water through a filter probably wouldn’t hurt (even though I’ve never done it or felt it was necessary). …and appreciate you checking out the video and sharing your experience @leeraewi!
@leeraewi
@leeraewi Жыл бұрын
@@LivingInVancouver-BC that's an extremely good point. I had never considered the role of copper, particularly because at the time I didn't know much about copper and how it oxidizes. But I've never had that same experience in any other city, presuming that copper pipes are not just used in Vancouver, and I've lived in many very old buildings (that one was probably 1960s? based on design and in-suite materials). Is this green leaching an indication that pipes need to be replaced?
@LivingInVancouver-BC
@LivingInVancouver-BC Жыл бұрын
@leeraewi I don't think that's a sign that the pipes are wearing out, no. But they do corrode over time. The real sign is getting pin-hole leaks in the pipes that occur from the thinning of copper pipes over time (the water running through them picks up tiny particles along it's path). I did just google "why is my bathtub green" and the answer is, as I thought possible..."excessive copper levels in your water". Vancouver's water comes from surface run-off in the mountains. It's as soft as can be...so anything as you describe would come from the plumbing in the home that you live in.

Could no longer afford to live there after 2 decades but when I was there my favorite things were: 1. The mountains! Beautiful mountain views everywhere! 2. Only a hop skip away to USA for shopping if you wanted to get away! 3. White Rock Beach! 4. The seawall at Stanley Park, English Bay, Coal Harbour 5. The scenic view on the Sea to Sky highway from Vancouver to Whistler! 6. The scenic ferry rides to nearby islands! 7. Organic farms and food 8. Grouse grind! 9. Granville Island Market! 10. The Pacific Ocean at your door step!

Lol. Vancouver is a statistically very safe city. If there’s an issue with crime, it’s petty crime…thefts of bikes and from cars, that type of thing. I’ve never once felt unsafe in Vancouver in my entire life…but it can be subjective. If you are coming from a smaller city or town some parts of town (like the DTES) might feel a bit overwhelming.
