I sit at a desk 40-60 hours a week and even though I am very active outside of work, compression socks really help me. After 24 years of this I actually developed what took doctors months to determine was a painful callus. It was located on the bottom of my foot and was very sensitive to touch, let alone walk on. The only recommendation was surgery to correct walk and range of motion. The compression socks healed the painful callus after 2-3 months.

Couldnt sleep coz of sore calves and feet, woke up multiple times until midnight, at that point, I put on compression socks and went back to sleep; First thing my legs felt so much relaxed and sleep was better. In high school I had a severe knee injury in football ...a hyper extention. It damaged the valves in my veins behind my knee, which I didn't know at the time nor the doctors. My knee didn't show any issues after the ligaments healed and I went on to play football in college. 40years later ...my ankle began to swell. Doctors thought that it was a heart condition, so I had xrays, doppler tests and cat-scans, which showed that there was no problem with my heart. Finally a older Dr. comes into the exam room a week later with my medical folder in is hand and he says to me ..."have you ever had a knee injury playing sports?" In a flash it all came back to me and I said.." Yes..is that what this is"?? He said "absolutely". So after further discussions with vascular physicians, it was recommended that the only thing that I could do was to wear "compression socks" all the time and to raise that leg up on a cushion or chair when I'm sitting. All this helps but the swelling is still there...especially in the warmer months. Its gotten worse now that I'm in my '70s. There's no pain ...but I never wear shorts or go to the beach! Thanks for this video! I'm sure it could speak to other former football players who've had knee injuries if they really think about it.

Bob and Brad, there is an easier way to put them on. Roll the top down, turning the sock inside out until you get to the heel pocket. Hold the inside of the heel pocket so it is now at the top. The foot part is still right side out, but the leg part is now inside out hanging over the foot part. Now while still holding the heel pocket, put the foot part on your foot. Then roll the rest of the sock up over your leg. You don't need that contraption which I think they call a donner.

I get back up and can walk perfectly fine. Some days I have pain and one time I had no pain at all for a while. Now I know why and my doctor said wear compression socks for as long as I can and it should eventually go away. I used to be on my feet a lot too. I’m going to try and lose weight as well cause I feel it contributes to this.

My therapist introduced me to rubber gloves with ridges on the finger tips to pull them on over the heel and up the leg. It works and saves your nails going through and ruining your hose. Plastic bags from the store works too. Slip the bag on first, then pull the hose on over the bag until you get to or near your calf. Flip the bag over the cuff and pull up and over the hose moving downward and slip off ( if toe is enclosed cut a hole in bottom of bag before putting it on ). If sock is open toe, slip the bag on without cutting bottom off and slide hose on above the ankle and then pull bag out through toe opening. I have had success with all three methods. I only use gloves when I run out of bags or I am out and need to smooth the crinkles out.

I just bought them for the first time last week. I've had swelling in my ankles since I was about 25. At the time the doctor just said take a diuretic and elevate my legs. All of my relaxation time is with my legs elevated. Now at 46 I can't be up for more than a few hours without the swelling setting in. So, I think it's about time for the socks. When I first wore them I felt dizzy and short of breath. The next day was better. But my ankles didn't swell. So, I'll keep trying to get used to them.

I've had swelling of the ankles for years but the closed toe compression socks work a treat. Just make sure you have the right weight for your problem. I had to move to class 2 and they really keep the swelling down. If they don't it probably means time to move up a weight.
@virglibrsaglove3 жыл бұрын
@@taniayager3361 Awesome! I think mine are class 2. And so far they are helping a lot. I don't wear them all the time. Only if I'm going to be up for a while. And definitely if I am going to sit at my desk at all. They don't completely prevent swelling when I have to be at my desk for a few hours, but they dramatically reduce it. Same with running errands for a few hours. It seems like once the swelling sets in really badly it doesn't take much at all for it to come flooding back even if I temporarily got rid of it. But if I wear the compression socks before sitting or standing for a while it prevents the swelling from getting out of hand. Which seems to keep it from happening as easily. Anyway, I'm liking them a lot so far. And I'm glad yours seem to help you, too. 👍

@@taniayager3361 Good suggestions, thank you! I have 2 desks that I work at from home, plus my couch, depending on what I'm doing. The couch I use for online work and have my legs elevated with my feet sock-free and usually moving. At one desk I use a bench, which is not the greatest option for me, though it's better than a chair. At the other desk I sit on an exercise ball. This makes it easier to stretch my back when I reach for tools, etc and helps to strengthen my core. And I frequently take bounce breaks which helps my muscles to not cramp up. The balance ball also keeps pressure off the backs of my legs which is essential if I'm sitting. (The bench does, too.) And I wear the compression socks anytime I am working at either desk. I think I'll get a second exercise ball for the desk that I currently use the bench for, too. (That one is higher than the other desk, so it needs a bigger or more inflated ball.) I completely agree that moving our muscles throughout the day definitely helps. And I also need the compression socks in addition. 👍

My doctor told me to wear them because I have to sit all day at work (transcription work that's paid by production, not hours, so I am unable to take a lot of breaks) and my ankles swell up pretty bad. They really do make a big difference in keeping the swelling and pain down, but its hard to find the right fit if you have big calves and small feet. If it fits around the calf and top of the sock without digging in too much, the feet are made large, like for Bozo the clown. Putting them on is easier if you turn them inside out and get your toes in, then roll them up.

I just bought some because I'm having a bit of OCD that makes me stand a long time and getting spider veins as a result, but the ones I got are so tight that they're cutting into my leg! I even sized up And you're right they're so hard to put on I feel like I'm damaging myself just putting them on! I don't know if you have already I'll have to check, but if you haven't yet, a video on the difference between below the knee, over the knee and up to the thigh compression socks would be awesome!

My cardiologist just told me to start wearing compression socks which could help my low blood pressure.

I have Chronic Venous Insufficiency and started wearing 20-30 mmHG compression socks as my doctor recommended. After about a year my toes started going numb. Tried the toeless socks to take some pressure off, toes still went numb. Found out my foot had developed Morton's Neuroma. I never imagined toe numbness, Morton's Neuroma and nerve damage could be caused by compression socks, but it seems that might be the case. I switched to the lower grade, mild compression 8-15 mmHg. I don't know if that low grade will help my CVI, but it is relieving the numbness in my toes.

A good pair of compression sleeves might work better for some people. They can last for years because you don't get the wear and tear of a sock inside a shoe. I've had the same pair for maybe 15 years. Machine wash and air dry.

Don't the sleeves make your feet swell?

My Vascular Surgeon asked me to NOT wear compression socks. They should be prescribed by Heart Surgeons or Vascular Surgeons. They can create more issues with damaging your veins if not necessary to actually wear them.

#cathylaycock5598 I was wearing them for Chronic Venous Insufficiency. They gave me Morton's Neuroma so I have stopped wearing them. They caused my toes to go numb. And I tried both the regular and the toeless ones.

As someone with slender legs and big feet, I can tell you that for some of us finding compression socks is next to impossible - I have POTS. Even when I buy the footless ones that zip in place, if they fit my calves, they are still too large for my ankles. I've yet to find a pair that works for me. (The ones that fit my feet literally fall from my legs.) Aside from that, I wear barefoot shoes. My toes cannot stand to be compressed. The idea of that it might be good for the feet makes no sense to me - I think they can't possibly be good for the feet, particularly if you are subject to Morton's Neuromas as I am.

@Madison Heights I suggest you visit your MD or PT for a prescription for custom measured compression stockings. You go to a medical equipment dealer and are measured by a certified medical fitter who can discuss the different types of stockings available. The custom-fit stockings are expensive, but are often covered by insurance. It's worth it to have the custom-made ones. ☮️

#IExpectedBSJustNotThisMuchBS Thanks very much for your comment. I have CVI and my dr told me to wear compression socks. After wearing 20-30 mmHg for about a year I developed numbness in my toes and Morton's Neuroma. Now I don't know what I'll do to treat my CVI condition, but I do know the compression socks squeezed my feet and gave me the neuroma, numbness and pain. I also think they cause ingrown toenails.

I can't stand compression socks. I just do the calf raise exercise slowly and carefully touch my heals to the floor with a little force so that it helps circulation in my calf. It's also good for my bones because it's considered a weight-bearing exercise. It's part of the QiGong Eight Pieces of Brocade. It temporarily reduces the varicose vein behind my left knee better than anything (although elevating my legs on a wedge pillow also helps). Compression socks are a misery to put on and to take off as well as to wear.

We went on a 10 say tour that involved walking a lot. The last few days my feet swelled up. I got compression socks to wear. Not sure if that was the right thing to do but we came back on a plane so I wore them. All the walking made my feet swell, not sure what that meant for me. I don't think I have any heart, etc problems and this was about 5 years ago. Also, Bob you need to have the desk that adjusts like my husband does. Stand awhile then sit awhile but you know that.

I get a discomfort in my calfs whilst running and sometimes the discomfort leads to my feet tingling/ going numb... Do you think that compression socks would help with this?!

Thanks. My doctor recommended them to me last summer when my ankles swelled. I did not feel like wearing them then! But I tried them when the weather got cooler. The helped some. Unfortunately, a lot of my pain and swelling is from varicose veins in my thighs.

After spending over $300 trying different types, sizes, compressions: not for people with severe edema as they are much too restrictive around the ankles (like sausage links)!!
