Thank you so much Brian for all of your helpful videos on the disability application process that I watched for months. For the past 2.5 yrs I have had polymyalgia rheumatica then fibromyalgia rode in on its coattails with it's own array of symptoms and conditions. I went for my consultative exam at the end of September. I saw negative reviews on the examiner which gave me alot of added anxiety, but I dressed casually, took my medical records and offered them but wasn't pushy when they were declined. I was honest, hoping that I wasn't hurting my own case a couple of times. The NP was thorough, friendly, discussed each of my conditions, gave me the opportunity to further discuss my limitations at the end (at my request), and also asked if I felt that she had given me enough time for my appointment. My anxiety turned to depression on the backside when I knew it was all out of my hands. 4 weeks later, I was approved for disability benefits! My first time around, no hearing , no lawyer. I was, and still am, in disbelief but so relieved. It's a stressful process when you are not well to begin with. So everyone, please hang in there and know that it can happen!

I have my Dr. Appointment in one day from now. Here in Holland Michigan, the Dr. sent me a Appointment reminder that flat out states "COME ALONE, DO NOT BRING ANYONE WITH YOU. IF SOMEONE BRINGS YOU, THEY MUST STAY IN YHE CAR"!

Why are you referring to these examiners as “doctors”? These are referred to in the letter from SSDI as “ a medical professional “ and here in Alabama are in deed a nurse practitioner. The exams are done on Saturday in a private doctors office space. You do not see a doctor. Mine and 6 other applicants I know have all had the same examiner at the same location.

Just had my medical CE march 8th I saw the doctor for a total of maybe 7-8 minutes he had me try to push his hands with my arms and legs then had me squeeze his fingers and then that was it so I'm not sure how much he could glean from 8 minutes seeing me but hey who knows........

I have an appt with an internist next week. I also have an appt scheduled for a psych evaluation two weeks later. I will make sure I take my boyfriend with me and record the appt. I live in southern California, so I don't think it will be a problem recording the evaluation. I will take your advice and bring my medical records with me. I think that's perfect advice because the doctor who is evaluating me is more like a Primary Care Physician since she's an internist. Thanks for your helpful information.

I just received my disability review letter last week. I've been on disability for approximately 10 years now. What should I expect from this letter and/or the exam? And how do I go about obtaining all of my records from my doctors? I see 3 doctors on a regular basis. Thanks

Hi I just applied for disability but was denied because they said I isn’t work enough to qualify so they told me I may qualify for supplies security income. I am going through the approval process. They recently sent me some forms for me and a third party to fill out. My question is, is it mandatory to fill out those forms?
@TheDisabilityDigest

I just had a CE by a doctor from Midwest CES this past week. My attorney had alerted me to the issues with them beforehand and provided me with a list of the tests that they were supposed to be performing. Very few of the tests on the list were done by the doctor. I have a rare form of muscular dystrophy. Specifically, the doctor was supposed to check my fine motor skills and fatigability amongst other things. The doctor asked if I could pick up coins with my fingers or button my shirt, but she never actually asked me to demonstrate my abilities. She never checked my fatigability. I'm trying to remain hopeful that she saw enough from my difficulties getting up from a seated position or getting up from the exam table to document my condition. The doctor refused to accept a copy of my genetic, EMG & PFT test reports that I brought with me, which confirmed my diagnosis. I used my cell phone to make an audio recording of the entire process and I typed up a transcript to provide to my attorney if it's needed.

It seems to me that starting the appointment with making demands like recording the doctor and asking for regulations that prove you can't record would set an incredibly bad adversarial environment. All doctors are human beings who can be biased against someone who proves arrogant and entitled. This also goes against all the other research I've done that clearly states that doctors do not have the time to look at a stack of records you bring. I think it's fantasy to believe the doctor will review the documents after the appointment. They get paid for the one hour or less that each appointment is allowed.
