@@jaymercer4692 Arkham Knight had the best story and the Riddler races and puzzles were unique and enjoyable but I personally think they focused too much on fighting with the Batmobile. One or two fights in it against The Arkham Knight would be good but it was done so much that it just sapped away all of the original brilliance of the battles in previous games. For me it did anyways especially when they made deathstroke a one hit punch resolved by cutscene.

I would have put in Fallout New Vegas. When I saw it was being made mostly by Obsidian I expected a mediocre copy of Fallout 3, but I was amazed at how good it was. The story was much better then 3 and the factions much more interesting. Say what you will about the glitches and there were plenty of them it was still an amazing game. And the DLC was incredible to boot. New Vegas is the best Fallout I've played and is in the top 3 of the best Bethesda games I've played. 1 Oblivion 2 Skyrim then New Vegas.

I always feel like I missed something when people talk about Oblivion being good. Morrowind I get it was brilliant. Skyrim I get it was also brilliant. Oblivion I just never enjoyed all that much. It always felt like something was missing and I never really understood what but I just don't like it as much as the others.

+chaz Davis Because it requires actually effort, testing and thoughts to be made. Most importantly it requires the director to think hard and love video games, not focusing on meeting deadlines and upgrade the graphics. There's no template to climbing moving stuffs (different shapes should have different map) and hit weak points. Just the swindling physics balancing and climbing control would make them go: Nahhh better stick to generic 3rd person action games hit boss and more QTE so it looks more cinematic instead! Honestly the only reason that Japanese developers are better than western ones are because they have their own vision of what they want to try and do. That's why their game are very often unique, intriguing and great fun to explore. They are artists, not factory managers.

Duy Linh Chu Ha I agree and since the west is all about capitalism they have to worry about deadlines and selling preorders etc but Japanese have more ethical tendencies i lived there for 5 years and i saw often that CEO's would refuse to be paid millions while the average worker was barely making it and would put the money he would have back into the company and workers wages. This along with their work ethic and pride in their game development puts them way over on the U.S. unfortunately.

Dragons dogma...I got to the part after you kill the dragon and you're in the Everfall and have to get 20 wakestones through fighting a bunch of bosses. I killed the eye thing, the Saurian room, the golem and cyclops thing, the dark chimera, and one or two more...After the auto save I accidentally sold a weapon so I loaded it back...and I was back to the first Everfall fall. I legit snapped it in half and promised I'd never play it again.

I found out about it through a podcast that were playing it in the background, and they were only playing the opening sequence which sold me for an RPG that i would actually want to play. Im not ultra far into it or anything, but i do enjoy the luxury of classes actually being good at what they do, i love actually aiming as an archer.

It may not have been on any PlayStation consoles, but Final Fantasy 1 was meant to be the last game the company ever made, as it was going bankrupt. However many of the bloody sequels later, they're rolling in it. I think that constitutes a mention as 'unexpectedly good'.

Also the player character not speaking didn't bother me much, the oh so mighty Skyrim didn't have that either. At least Dragon's Dogma incorporated your character into the cutscenes.

Luis Felipe the fact you say awesome fighting is good enough proves you cant tell if a game is good even it would slap you across the face with every single positive review it had. Because Dragons dogma is not a good game. Stultus11 And dude skyrims story is 10000x better told than dragons dogma. Even without the main character speaking. But dragons dogmas story needed the main character to talk because the story wasn't good enough. You could see almost every twist before it happened. Plus skyrim is a far more detailed game than dragons dogma so maybe the developers didn't have the time to create cut scenes with the main character in them.

To justify his actions and murder in dubai, Walker recreated the dead Conrad as a scapegoat for his actions and fought against him to become something he always wanted to be, a hero. There is a lot we can't really confirm about the game though. We don't know at which point the game stops being real (In the game world obviously, but most theorize it to be the helicopter crash), or which characters are real and whether or not anything in the game actually happened, and Walker is just sitting in a mental home somewhere with PTSD. The whole game is really about interpretation to be honest.

Aaaahhhh.... the memories. Bioshock. I remember when my best friend showed me the case and I was like "What the duck is this weird crap..?" She said she'd heard it was amazing. So we gave it a try. Fast forward until 4 in the morning when neither of us could turn the game off, go to sleep or stay awake. I think my very first Platinum trophy was Bioshock. What I found most amazing, besides the story, is how the environment speaks to the player, like an underwater crime scene. If these walls could speak? Well, in Rapture they do - creating stories within the story. Rapture is _alive_. That is brilliant. I highly recommend the book as well. It's great. Still haven't forgiven Ken for breaking my heart :( However, I know his next project will be amazing. No matter what it is.

As great of a game as Dragon's Dogma is, even the developers thought it was lackluster in terms of content. They wanted the game world to be considerably larger (even with other cities/towns besides Gran Soren) and they wanted to add quite a bit more weapons and vocations (crossbows were considered for instance). Even so, they took cues from a lot of games (including Shadow of the Colossus if you couldn't tell lol) and they truly made it amazing. The AI could have been a bit less annoying, but it was interesting to see how your Main Pawn grew in knowledge and experience. Dark Arisen really upped the ante though. All in all, best game on your list. Thank you for including it as it seems like such an overlooked game.

Shadow of Mordor isn't bad but it's extremely overrated as a whole. I do agree with Batman Arkham Asylum. I disagree with City being better. Castlevania Lords of Shadow gets a lot of hate so I wouldn't say that defied all expectations. I never played Alien Isolation. I am planning on it.

Dubble_PP​ The fact that the nemesis system is tied too much to the main story is a problem I had with it. The nemesis system could've been fleshed out as a whole mainly when it came to giving you stuff to do after you got the higher ups.

+Clay Brinker it was released on ps3 and xbox 360 a while ago and im not sure if the remastered edition is on ps4/xbox one avaibable too. for the pc version i have no clue what the requirements are im sorry there. i can imagine that it will run on low-mid settings tho but everything above that would surprise me. but i still love how much they improved the visuals like geez, that is some awesome looking stuff there^^

I found that the gameplay wasn't that great and I thought the biggest disappointment about it was the story. Due to the fact that it was written as an interquel for Hobbit and LOTR, there is only so much that can be done, and the basic premise was rather predictable. The best thing about it was the idea of a wraith sharing your body.

I don't think Skyrim exceeded the hype I had for it at all, it was a good game, but not as good as it's predecessors in many aspects, for me the only parts I really enjoyed was the mages guild and the DLC. The main story was quite dull, the environment and open world was incredibly boring and the variety of enemies was bland without daedra. I do however have the same hype for Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 4.

Phalvesaurus​ I just think Skyrim is given too much credit, because it is overrated. I think the thing with it is, Skyrim attracted loads of new people to the elder scrolls franchise and many people who have played Skyrim have not played Oblivion or Morrowind. Skyrim wasn't a bad game, it just wasn't as good as its predecessors. Especially in terms of lore, story and environment. And the people who have not played the predecessors don't understand why some people do not like Skyrim as much. Dagoth Ur and Mehrunes Dagon were better villains than Alduin too. Though I thought the dark brotherhood was better in Skyrim, the thieves guild missions in Oblivion were much better, the mages guild had a much more interesting villain, Mannimarco, the fighters guild was better than the companions, despite their being no werewolves. And in the DLC, Miraak was an exceptionally good villain but Lord Harkon wasn't quite as epic as Jygallag. Not to mention that despite Dawnguard and Dragonborn being very good, neither of them in my opinion were better than the Shivering Isles.
