Nicely done Jason. Many of us are getting "Bourbon burnout" and a nice Irish is a refreshing change of pace.

For sure. Chasing bourbon and their ever increasing prices is getting so old. I’m gravitating towards Irish and scotch these days.

Great list, I appreciate every one of these offerings and would add Writers Tears, the Double Oak is amazing.

I would love to see a follow up to this as there are now so many more SPS Irish whiskeys on the shelves. One I was surprised you didn't cover was the Teeling single Pot still that was in your background! New ones I have seen or read about recently: Teeling, Kilbeggan, Drumshanbo, Ballykeefe, Glendalough, Method and Madness and even Jameson
@joeygold86632 жыл бұрын
Well done and accurate Jason. The RB Lustau is very good as well. Would love to see your content be ~25-33% non-US whiskeys. You have the best combo of content, perspective and time efficiency. Well done!

Yes, Irish has been a good option for a change from Tennessee Whiskey for me. Recently moved from Jameson to Red Breast 12 yr and really like it's notes (is that how the attributes are described?). Thanks for the list, I will be searching for that Power's next.

Great stuff! I did tried Power 3 Swallows based on one of your other videos and super happy with it. Over the past weekend, I had it along with RB 15, RB 12 yr CS, RB Lustau, Knappogue Castle 12, Knappogue Castle16 and the odd one Amrut Kadhambam. The Powers was picked over the most by my guests. Most of them weren't big whiskey drinker so they went by how they smell off the bottles :-). I definitely would grab John Lane later this week. Anyhow, I am new to your channel but I recommend you try Indian Single Malt. The Kadhambam is 50% ABV and drink very smooth for its strength, very complex (sweet, dark fruit, nutty, subtle smoke with long finish) it was less hot than RB 12 yr CS so to me I feel it contains much older juice. I had my bottle 4-5 yrs ago but just cracked it opened. Two different flavor profile whiskey though but was pleasantly surprises how good the Kadhambam was.

Great show Jason. Irish whiskies offer a nice change from bourbon when you’re in the mood for something different. Love Red Breast 12 YO Cask Strength. And to date, my overall favorite whiskey is Midleton Very Rare 2017, delicious. Slainte!

Blue Spot is such a banger. Still need to try the John's Lane and Three Swallow.

Great review Jason. As the bourbon market has gotten crazier with ridiculous secondary gouging, I have gotten more into Irish Whiskey and Scotch. The Green Spot Chateau Leoville Barton is such a beautiful dram and has become one of my favorite Whiskeys. Cheers, and continue the epic content.

I love Redbreast 12 and Green Spot. Unfortunately, Power's Three Swallows and John's Lane are not available around here (I'm not in the boonies, I'm in Silicon Valley). I've wanted to try them for a long time, I guess I'll keep looking. Thanks for a great review.

I have almost all these on my bar but the one you left off and my personal favorite is the Redbreast 15 at 92 proof. I have Irish night once a week and happen to be sipping on a Redbreast Lustau right now which so good. Cheers!

Agree with all these choices, Busker releases a single pot still which for the price is great although not as complex as most of the others on this list worth a try for informing the palate & Teeling Pot Still (which I noticed on the shelf there) is probably my top pick, John’s Lane a very close second and I think it’s because of the higher unmalted barley content (50/50 if I remember correctly) lots of spices, creamy and chocolate stone fruits in the tail end. Great video overall!

Thank you for the super informative video and I appreciate delving into some different whiskeys outside of bourbon even though right now I'm deep into a bourbon run.. But I want to ask something I don't know .. can you do a video on non chill filtered versus chill filtered and what it means and which whiskeys do it and which don't?

Nice video. In Bulgaria where I live the highest price/quality ratio single pot still whiskeys are Powers 12 John's Lane (~26 $ for 0.7 l), Redbreast 12 Cask Strength (~45 $ for 0.7 l) and Redbreast 15 (~51 $ for 0.7 l). The "color spots" are not available around here save for the Green Spot every now and then, overpriced. Cheers!

I love Redbreast 12. It's light on flavor, as you pointed out, but what's there is excellent. The finish is where it shines for me. It seems to hit the sides of my tongue and cheeks a few seconds after I swallow with a nice pineapple/dark fruit character.

Glendalough's pot still is still sourcing from West Cork (probably blending it with their potstill whiskey as well since they don't say "single" on their bottling). I really enjoy that bottle, totally in left field for me with how savory it is. There isn't many distilleries putting out pot still whiskey (yet).. it's pretty dominated by the Midleton conglomerate..
