I'm reading the books for the first time. I just finished The Order of the Pheonix and was highly upset that the movies had left out the ending where Lupin, Tonks, Moody, and the Weasleys confront the Dursleys. I could picture it so vividly in my mind as if it HAD been in the movies.

I'm looking forward to the bits about Winky and her part in the Crouch family's dark secrets; and Fred and George's feud with Ludo Baghorn, which shows them in a different light to what we see in the films. Then there's Hermione's revenge on Rita Skeeter, the memories Dumbledore shares with Harry in HBP (Tom Riddle's sinister work for Borgin & Burke's, the Gaunt family, Riddle's request to work at Hogwarts). There's so much great material we will hopefully see on screen at last.

I do love how so many of these are from the fifth book, my favorite. That was, in my opinion, the worst movie, but it is my favorite. They had to cut sooooo much stuff to make it a then-standard-length movie. Nowadays, we probably would have been absolutely treated to a 3.5 hour movie with a lot of these plot points included.

You missed Dumbledores visit to the Dursley's at the start of Half-blood Prince. I always hated the way the film opened. Voldemorts at large and Harry is riding around on muggle trains. It makes no sense. Where does Harry get the muggle money from to ride all of these trains and why is he allowed to wander around full stop. At this point of the books he has the highest security that the ministry can give him. I would love to know what the director thought he was doing.

Wizard money and muggle money can be exchanged at Gringotts. And given how many methods of magical transport are available, most witches and wizards probably avoid muggle public transport. I'd say it'd be pretty safe for Harry to travel on those trains.

Let's also point out that the relationship build up between Harry and Sirius didn't really get much attention in the films so his death didn't feel as impactful if you hadn't ready the books. Also perfect timing as I had just finished my bi-annual re-watch of the movies. 😁

Great video but Aunt Petunia's Howler needs a little more context, The reason she received it was that the Dursleys were on the point of throwing Harry out, blaming him for what had just happened with Dudley. Dumbledore was reminding her seriously that she is responsible for Harry, being his only real link to his mother, no matter how badly she has been treating him... He cannot, not call privet drive his home until his 17th birthday or he will lose his mothers protective magic.

But that totally makes since. By the way which book does Dumbledore explain this to Harry?

@@nicholasfarrell5981 that's slightly different... the Dursleys were protected by the ministry of magic in the same way that they protect all muggles from the effects of the wizarding world... I absolutely LOVE the books, i mean, I could probably recite them. I also love the movies, they hold their own too, as movies. However, I'm actually SO glad the movies didn't include 'The House of Gaunt', 'Kreatures Tale', The Death Day party, among so many other moments, because I'm still able to rely on my the first ever mental images that I had when I first read them (whilst waiting for the next books to be released) and I don't want them changed by someone elses vision on screen 😂 I'm in two minds about watching the new series, I dont know if I'm ready to be let down by it 😂

I've never been so angry at a cinema at how they left kreatures tale and house of gaunt out... Until the final film.... When the ruined McGonagalls summons of the school to fight back into a joke (one of the most emotive parts of the books for me). Both battles of Hogwarts were ruined including no kreature shouting fight fight fight for my master and obviously how bad the final showdown was portrayed. It was like Harry genuinely bestest Voldemort on power and skill rather than the wand simply wouldn't turn on him!

Funny how it relate to the story with the two way mirror. Harry forgot he had the mirror because he didn't find it useful and thus did not contact Sirius to see if he was alive and well and remember he had it to late, when Sirius died to protect him. Had he just use the mirror, Sirius would probably still be alive. And in reality, directors forgot about the mirror, thinking it wasn't useful and had to introduce it later in the story when it was too late 😂

We’re taught that immediately in book 2. They hammer that home in book 7 with the seven Potters. So! How is it that Barty Crouch Jr. is able to perfectly mimic Moody? His voice, his mannerisms, everything. This has and will always bother me.

Exactly. People who compare books to movies and expect an exact visual representation of EVERYTHING in the books severely underestimate just how different those two media are! Movies have surprisingly little time to explain every little plot point and every piece of character development and world building (and would be boring as hell if they gave a detailed explanation to everything) and can often only give subtle hints to important things instead, whereas books have loads of space to get lost in details and side-notes, at the risk of drifting off into unimportant ramblings. When you read a book, you expect it to tell you as much about the story and the world around it as possible, it's this satisfaction of curiosity that makes reading books interesting. Meanwhile the thrill of watching movies is the opposite, here it's the sense of wonder how things are going to play out, the wondering what is going on and the way the pieces fall into place at the end, that makes the thrill of the movie. A good movie can be watched multiple times and you discover new aspects of the story every time, because the movie does NOT explain them in detail, but only shows them in subtle hints.

@LRM12o8
@LRM12o8 Күн бұрын
No, that's why comparing movies to books so literally sucks! The movies would have been an absolute flop if they were exactly like the books, because movies and books are fundamentally different. Books have time and space to thoroughly explain every little detail (at the risk of getting lost in irrelevant ramblings) and that's mostly expected in order to satisfy the reader's curiosity. Movies (as well as stage plays) are entirely different. If a movie explained every detail, like books do, it would be boring as hell. The thrill of a movie lies in not having every detail laid out plain as day, but in having to piece things together yourself from the subtlest hints and, in wondering how things are going to play out and in seeing how the pieces fall into place at the end.

SISTERS And BRO's my fellow Potterheads... I think we need to stop reffering to Nagini as Voldemorts Snake... I think since we know that she Is not just a snake, but a Maledictus we could use a Word Companion or Partner whatever i think using the Word Snake Is taking depth from her character And Its down Downgrading her character to And im sorry i need to say it Hedwig.... Dont take me wrong i love Hedwig but she Is except for the benefit of being Harrys personal post Office just a pet... Its like Its trained magical owl... Nagini is Voldemort's snake. Try finding the word maledictus in the orignal books relating to Nagini. It's up there with the word(s) "ret-con" to try and force something, that nobody ever questioned when the books (and possibly films too) were released, into the Fantastic Beasts franchise because a love interest was needed for a main character that had never been mentioned at any point in the original books.
@lilwhale4913
@lilwhale4913 3 күн бұрын
@natejgee Its like you are right... But that thing with ret-conning Is that Its Wrong when Its not your original theme...She Is the original author, JK said she Is a Maledictus even if its for reasons stated by you earlier And different, but still prequel francise... I wouldn't question Hawking about Black Holes based on books he wrote 10 years ago if he still lived ofc... So when JK says now She Is not a Snake but a Maledictus i take it... If it wasn't her who said so i would be absolutely on your side... But i love And respect JK for still working And updating her creation so im gonna respect her choice of words... And please you can at least try not to write the message with that condescending tone thanks...
