I've just recently discovered George Carlin. As someone who has struggled with mental illness for the majority of my adolescence, this hits home. In a weird way, it's as if he's not trying to be funny. Yes he's a comedian, but it seems he's just talking to the audience as if he were off stage. Discussing very serious issues, but somehow manages to keep the mood in the room light. It's amazing.
@UniqueGeekFreak5 жыл бұрын
lol yes! I love his sinister dark comedy thoughts, no filter whatsoever lol The bitterness & delivery is what makes it for me, in all seriousness. Bill Baker, you really need to look up his stuff, he's a real treasure. The other day my daughter and I were moving stuff out to the garage so carpets could be put in. She said "I can't believe how much shit we have(mostly c/o the kids toys). I responded with "you're stuff is shit, my stuff is stuff". One of my favorite lines of his. Yes, sometimes his honesty really hits home. I know when I OD'd all the things he said ran through my mind. He's one of only 3 comedians I've ever felt was worth paying to see( along with Lewis Black and Sinbad). Take care of yourself Bill, because you're worth it.

This reminds me comedy can be funny and brilliant even if you’re not laughing really hard. A good friend of mine once said “good comedy makes either makes me look at things differently or feel less alone.” This does both and the real payoff is in the end when you actually imagine how funny and so screwed up but still so so funny it would be to sign a suicide note “Sincerely, the corpse in this room.” You can’t even wrap your head around it and he not only thought it he had the balls to say it on stage. RIP Carlin.

You go on holidays and you contemplate offing yourself? Hell, I'm in my 30s and still live with my "parents" who crippled me when I was 20, the "people" who did everything to make sure I can't finish my education, who starved me, beat me and tried to kill me when I was too small to defend myself, and I still don't think about ending it all. I'm unemployed, uneducated and I have zero access to healthcare. I focus on a possible positive future where I don't see these people again and I can live without constant, excruciating physical pain and walk again or maybe even run... I don't want to die, because I have yet to have a single good day in my life. ...at this rate, I'm going to live forever. Point is, maybe pick better vacation destinations or something. I recommend somewhere quiet where you can contemplate and see nature.

''I could never commit suicide''.. Sure, why would you? You have money.. You can say whatever the fuck you want and you have an audience. You can do many things you want, of course life is interesting to you. It's amazing how he can think about all the real details a suicidal man thinks about such as finding a method etc. but never questions what led him to this point in the first place? No happy, satisfied man would do that shit obviously. And we're not living in a perfect, fair world. Most of the time, economy is shit, society is a lie, sometimes you try and try, and nothing happens.. Carlin is a smart guy and thinks different but I also realize that even such smart guys sometimes don't know anything about empathy. And yes, I am a guy who thought about suicide few times and I still think about it sometimes as an option to get rid of my problems. And some people also say it's a coward thing to do but I wish I had the balls to do it sometimes, even though these days I can still bare life with help of others, but till when I don't know...

There are people who spend much of their lives in some level of Hell on Earth. Many have become deeply self-destructive and incapable of helping themnselves. Carlin's jokes are quite funny, but... if there is a God, then there are also angels weeping in heaven for the shit that goes down in our lives on Earth. There is no bottom to the well of sorrow, and sometimes it is just too painful. take a long moment to be thankful if you are not one of the lost souls thinking hourly on leaving the world early. The sad part is that as a deep thinker I can't even bring myself to laugh at some of these dark humors because of how truthful they are. At this time for me it's educational more than funny.

I had a friend who committed suicide many many years ago. And I still find this guy funny as hell. What a master
@CadencexCascade5 жыл бұрын
Well he's not glorifying suicide or even laughing at people who do it. He's mocking the act of suicide itself and the ridiculousness of society to care about minutia by juxtaposing it with the overwhelming dread someone feels prior to dying this way. Also, at the end of this bit, he gives a reason to live, to observe and laugh at humanity. So while trying to make something about suicide funny (which is most likely his main objective as a comic,) he's doing a bit against killing yourself, by illustrating how stupid and pointless it is, as you miss out on interesting things while you're alive.
