I agree + 8. Battery heater for short trips should be disabled
@DennisWallman
@DennisWallman 3 жыл бұрын
But how should the car know if you are going on a short trip? How often do you enter "Grocery store, 3 km's drive" into the navigation? ;). And if there was a way for the user to turn the preheating off, everyone would do it to get more range, and then the battery would be constantly cold, not deliver the power it should and accept even less charge.
@doudoune1067

@@DennisWallman The simpler question is how often do you go on long trips with fast charging stops and need a warm battery. Regarding the performance: Heat the battery when in sport mode only.

Km /hour is more informative and is the preferred way to compare cars. But on everyday use, as we pay per Kwh, that is the information we need. (that and charging time as that is a factor as well).
@logicalChimp
@logicalChimp 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikaelpettersson5916 km/hr makes sense from a non-technical user perspective (after all, what most people actually care about is how far they can travel, not what the machine is actually pumping out), but it needs to be accurate, and it needs to be consistent (no changing to km/min when charging quickly, etc). That said, I also agree with others that it should show what the charge rate is - as additional / alternate information, for those that prefer to see it that way, given that kW is - currently - the industry standard. It's fine for VW to think their approach is 'better', but they should include the industry standard option as well (especially as it's just a software display value - it's not like they have to provide extra hardware, etc)

Lane assist is great on the Autobahn when there is no construction... otherwise it needs to be turned off. A few years ago, I had a few Ford rental cars (Focus, Mondeo) and they had buttons on the steering wheel to disable lane assist, which was very useful to quickly disable the feature when I was going through construction zones. Leaving it on was dangerous! They really should give you the option to program a hot button on the steering wheel to any shortcut you would like. E.g. hold a button to activate/deactivate a feature. And non-illuminated climate and volume controls, completely unacceptable!
@steveunderwood3683
@steveunderwood3683 3 жыл бұрын
Not all lane assists are created equal. The one in my Volvo works really well on highways. Even when it can't track the lanes there is no particular reason to disable it. You just need to do the steering yourself until it can acquire the lane again. The only dangerous thing is to rely on it to the point where you aren't bothering to look.

Watching your back catalogue as we bought a used ID.3 1st 3 weeks ago. We had a terrible 12v battery drain causing expensive vamp drain on the main battery but at the moment a replacement 12v battery under warranty seems to have sorted this. Time will tell. The car screen shows that it is currently on version 2.3 software but VW insist that it is actually on 2.4. If the car cannot even show the correct software version I am uneasy about the quality of the software. I worked in IT at all levels from developer to programme manager over 25 years and such a simple error shows a significant lack of attention to detail. Worrying. My biggest bugbears at the moment are: 1: why does the radio come on every time we start the car and why is it always on a station that we have not chosen? 2: Why is it such a tedious and convoluted process to sign up to WeConnect for updates? The car should just be connected from day one, end of. Don't make life difficult for the customer. 3: What is that ridiculous captive nut sticking out for in the underfloor compartment of the boot? One day I will catch that and no doubt cut myself. Why VW, just why? 4: Why does it take so long for the rear view to cancel from the infotainment screen after reversing and as we are waiting to pull away or even actually moving? 5: Why can't I see or have a service and maintenance history? It's my car, I paid hard-earned cash to buy it outright. Don't get me wrong, we are very happy overall with the car but small annoyances become long-term issues. VW has been too disrespectful of it's customers in my opinion.

Always the question about Online or Offline mode, Error message about Internet Radio not being available, not selecting B-mode automatically if that was used last time, always have to switch of Lane assist. 4. The app with only a few features, never knowing if for example sending an address to the car will be received or not, sometimes it is received several hours later when. In my app it also sometimes show MIN instead of a temperature. 5. What were they thinking at VW when they decided to not have temp and volume slides illuminated? 1, 3, 6 & 7 has not bothered me that much yet, haven't done any long trips yet and have not used a DC-charger so far. But still I really like the car, if it get some descent sw-updates I think it can be really good!

So every setting is set to eco, but not the transmission. I don't ordered Lane assist, but the Start-Stop-Automatic also resets. Fortuntatelly in my car that is still a physical button. Also the climate controls ar phyiscal so the computer can't reset it. to 6) The app only has 2 features that I can use: Vehicle States and Navigation. The state only worked once, the navigation stuff does work most of the time.

100% agree on that breaking issue. I nearly got panic at an intersection just lately. As well I agree on the kW vs km/min issue: we need the kW and kWh/100km and so on display, everything else is crap. I wonder what Mr. Ulbrich thinks of his yearly statement from his energy provider that states the used electrical energy in kWh! Everybody that gets one of these statements - and I assume most of us do - are familiar with kWh and kW (hair dryer, oven, electrical heater...) so why the heck km/min as an electrical energy measure??? Please VW: get this corrected!

The thing is you already see the estimated time till charge limit and the current range in km the car claims to have. The answer to many of these complaints, including the one that Mr. Ulbricht said they will not change, in _configurability._ For goodness' sake, this car, and any EV, is a computer on wheels! _Everything_ on the dashboard(s) and many other things should be user-configurable, with preferences tied to user profiles. Again, Tesla is better here, but they don't go far enough, either. Somewhere deep in configuration menus should be a "geek mode" toggle that would enable things from simple changing charging speed from nebulous "km/h" to actual power, to bringing up whole synoptic pages with battery, motor, electronics and coolant temperatures, power used by various components, acceleration, power and regen in actual power units (along with friction brakes application) etc, something like all those data displayed by various OBD II monitoring apps. Majority of "ordinary" users would still use the HMI as it is, and if they stumble into the geek mode it would be easy to get back to the safety of "factory configuration". But driving this car could be so much more fun if we were given an opportunity to see what is it actually doing.

For me a tesla is a software company building cars, and VW is a car company doing software. Up until now EV's were aimed at the "tech" aware people lead by Tesla, VW are trying to aim this at everybody, and not everybody understands KW they just want to know if I charge it for 30 minutes how far can I go, and for that km/h works fine. oh by the way it kills me not knowing more about the state of the battery, thinking about going down the OBD port route...

I drove the ID3 a couple of times and I really like the design and how it looks. I own a Kia eSoul since almost a year and I am really surprised that none of the complaints you’ve happen in my car. #1, I haven’t had any single reliability issue. Of course the car SW is not as ambitious as on ID3 and it doesn’t have OTA but is extremely reliable. #2, I think some problems are legal requirements so it happens on any car (like safety features always on) but climate and driving mode are always as I left it. #3 well that’s the problem of having a seamless keyless system. #4The UVO app doesn’t look as nice a the ID3 but what it matter the most it might have failed 5 out of 100 times but nothing to really complain about it. #5 take it or leave it, it’s been a controversial decision what Vw did. #6 regen works on cold weather as usual (sometimes less efficiently) but I does even at 100% SOC and the pedal feel is more than OK #7 I still don’t understand why they can’t show the standard kW when charging, it seems like German automakers want to make unique things (like BMW showing battery size in Amps/h) I don’t think this is sth to like about eSoul since it is a standard thing on 99% of EVs... polestar 2 and Volvo xc40 don’t have this and it’s crap.. Great video, very informative! I really like what VW did with the ID3 overall, but it's always very useful seeing the negative stuff too. Unbalanced brake pedal got to me the most. Update: As of early June 2021, nothing has improved from the software. The app is almost hopeless. It never connects to the car 30 yards away, from my bedroom window in direct line of sight [comes up with error]. Although it knows the exact state of charge, even after parking the car for an entire weekend. Once again, this video is entirely accurate. So many flaws in an otherwise nice car.

after driving around in a Golf mk8 for 7 months now. While I am used to it, making the dash so button-less was a mistake ( it is similar in interface with the ID.3, look it up if you are interested). While it is not that hard to use for me now, just a few more buttons for seat heating and fan speed would have been so much better. Also... WHY is the infotainment SO SLOW at the start. Let me pile on with my pet peeve - the capacitive buttons. It is MUCH easier to accidentally activate a capacitive button than a mechanical one, and my most common mistakenly activated button are the „REAR“ button on the window controls (resulting in the rear window opening while I‘m desperately trying to get the front one down so I can put the parking ticket into the machine), and the reading light, which I manage to graze with my head when leaning down to get stuff out of the cupholder. Another one is the fact that unlike in the e-Golf, I have to turn the side mirror selector to „R“ every *** time I want the right side mirror to tilt down so that I can see the curb. In the e-Golf, you could just leave it on R forever, but the ID.3 forgets EVERYTHING after you turn it off.

A few also had the same thing ( blocked drums) also in higher temperatures after washing their cars at home and not driving it after the washing for one night. Did it happen to you ? Well Chris, I would love to say that the Peugeot e-2008 was better, but it also has it flaws. Like a non functional smartphone app, steering assistant which cuts out mid corner without any warning. Like never. So in a cold country your kids or animals in a driverless parked car will be cold or warm. Is this OK VW? My granddad's VW had no problems with this in the sixties. For me there are a few things vw should offer. 1. Fix the software infotainment system, The volume, temperature need to be night illuminated,sure you can do it via the touch screen but that’s not the point, it’s a design oversight plain and simple. 2 interior seat fabric and side fabric needs more options , big skoda can offer a variety of options including full leatherette why can’t id3, I long for a light interior seat option from the golf 7.5 3. Window switches activating the rear windows if sometimes hit and mainly miss, please put the rear window switches back on 4. Give users the ability to disable auto start and auto off, like schehf says sometime you have to get out quickly for a moment Really we should have the ability to add pin to start as well as remember not to turn off unless button is pressed only 5. A proper kw rating added to the charge menu. Giving. Charge time info is useless , I want to know exactly how many kw I am added to the car but also a real time kw rating as when it drops to almost teen levels on recharging it’s time to unplug unless going overnight to 100 if you needed it. 6. Add a proper sunroof option , heck even add the glass roof to the 77kw tour, preferably without the touch controls would help it not look so dark, if the glass cannot be added then follow the enyaq and give us an optional normal sunroof 7. Better paint options, where are the greens, red , yellows etc , as much as I like the copper strip, I would rather have the ability to be all one colour instead of two tone black and dull colour. Give us the choice if Nissan can do it so can vw 8. The heat pump clearly has a production issue often makes a weird noise when running that is on more than 1 model I’ve seen with the option fitted , it’s clearly a problem as Nissan own system has no noise issue when in use 9. We need more regen options please give us a one peddle option stronger than b mode, this was one of the things liked about the egolf but was put off by range , this can be added via a software menu. That hopefully remembers your settings after turning off and locking 10 whether your a mini cab or long distance driver or even a winter tire driver, why can’t we get 18 in fitted from the factory on the 77kw, why do we have to buy another set just to drop to 18 in instead of 19 on 77kw , sometimes the dealers are kind but it should be offered whether 18 or 19 right away 11 now we are in winter I’ve noticed that the doors Finnish above the seal thus gets winter grime over your legs on exit and along the door edge along the back door please fix this 12 please please give us the option to disable the voice assistance hey Id , whether is the accent I don’t know but it just never gives the right answer unlike google, and please fix that blue tooth drop out in calls
