I don't know. My next video about the things I don't miss might piss some people off. lol

I like long distance drives, but I am starting to dislike driving. I did the cross country trips when I was in the military, and I love taking a long drive from TN to visit my cousin in AZ. I'm not sure what I would miss by becoming an expat-- in the military I missed my grandparents, but my Grandma passed 5 years ago. My Grandpa is 87, and that's the only reason I haven't taken off for China, Korea, or somewhere in Asia. Between your vlogs and a friend who literally took off for Thailand in February, I am giving myself about 4 years to build up 2-3 online businesses so I can become a net nomad.

I think I would miss soul food leaving the US. Specifically, mac n cheese and good bbq spare ribs! But I am sure I will find a local replacement.
@Minoritynomad8 жыл бұрын
Mac n Cheese, NOPE. Actually in the UK you can because they have a cheese culture. But Asian and African nations, nope. You can barely find good milk. lol. Exaggerating but kind of not. Now ribs on the other hand, several asian countries are bbq pros. Thailand, Korea, and the Philippines get it in on the grill. Plus the meat isn't expensive at all.

Maybe I'm partial because it's my hometown, but I don't like many wings outside of Buffalo, NY. It is the chicken wing capital. But skip the "Anchor Bar". They're the most famous, but most certainly not the best.

Your comments about driving I found facinating! Here in Canada I think I have a similar feeling about driving the Trans Canada Highway. I love driving all the the way west from Winnipeg to Vancouver. It's a very different feeling than European driving. Much more relaxed, and more of a long "slow burn", where you can put music on and just chill for hours and hours, stopping at a random truck stop, town, or city along the way. Yes we have "Flying J" up here too! 😁 Thanks for your videos, I watched a bunch of them today. I'm heading to Europe for a few weeks next month! Have you ever been to Alberta? I made travel road videos too! kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpmUgWSEoLuBgcU

Dude. I think not watching sports live is my least favorite thing about not living in the USA. I use mlb.tv and watch the Mets as much as I can. I also do fantasy sports too. Let me know if you wanna use my account so you can watch the Indians ;)

Ohhhhhhh that's a good one. Lol. I've had many early morning wakeups to catch a game. I'm actually catching the Redsox in Boston and Rangers in Arlington when I get back for conferences in June. Last NFL game I saw was Browns vs Buccaneers two years ago.

I now have a list about what I don't miss about the USA. As for what I do miss: Miss: 1. Our food, and there is actually a lot of high-quality food to be found, as long as it's not fast food or most supermarket food. California alone has the widest array--and some of the healthiest--of culinary options in the developed world. Not to mention, there's incredible regional variety in the country, and even cities like Louisville and Phoenix can complete worldwide culinarily. 2. Geographic diversity: You can travel from the Arctic Ocean to a territory in the Caribbean or Pacific in less than 24 hours. 3. Climatic diversity: No other place on Earth, save for possibly China, has the climatic diversity that the USA does. Forget driving to another state, just drive from one suburb of San Francisco to another. The weather will change, and fast. 4. The feeling of being in the "center of the world," as we're a powerful, hub country. I swear, village dwellers in Australia know more about the American political system (if even through the bias of Australian news) than even Americans do. 5. Ribbons of wide, truly high-speed highways that can take you from sea to shining sea, and to amber waves of grain. 6. The Right to Bear Arms: Sure, there is a high degree of gun violence that is sadly concentrated in inner city areas. Even so, good people, whether in the inner city or the boondocks, deserve the right to legally defend themselves. It's important to understand that outside some inner city areas, the USA is really quite safe, and the USA at-large is still much safer than most countries. 7. We have some amazing places, either world-class or hidden gems, e.g., Chicago, New Mexico, Utah, Texas, Los Angeles, San Francisco are among my favorites. 8. Our amazing opportunities for career and academic development are unparalleled anywhere else on Earth. We have some amazing colleges (e.g., Ivy League, Johns Hopkins, Chicago, Northwestern, Emory, Georgia Tech, Texas-Austin, Vassar, Emerson, Michigan, NYU, University of California system, Caltech, Stanford, Claremont colleges in California) despite our lacking K-12 education system.
@Minoritynomad6 жыл бұрын
1. Yup. 2. I've said it many times, the U.S. is the most diverse country on the planet from a tourism pov. Ethnically as well of course. 3. China can't touch us either. lol 4. It's funny that this always comes up. People constantly talk shit about us but my rebuttal is, because we're important enough for the entire world to care whats going on. lol. 5. Awwww yeah. I love a good road trip. Germany is damn good also. 6. I love guns. TEXASSSSSSSS 7. Ahh of thee above.........well except LA..........lol 8. Seriously, the upside to being an American is excellent when compared to most nations on the planet. We have our issues for sure. But even our bad stuff pales in comparison to being born elsewehere. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.

Minority Nomad You're welcome. As for LA, it does suck as a tourist, but it's great for residents. I believe there is as much to do and enjoy there as there is in NYC and London, but you just have to contend with a crappy transportation situation. Plus, once you leave the west side/Hollywood, the I found that the locals are actually nicer than the ones either up the coast in the San Francisco Bay Area or down in San Diego.

I agree. a lot of Americans take for granted a number of opportunities that are available in this country. There's a reason why so many foreigners go there. I'll be based in Taiwan starting in July. After studying abroad and traveling around East Asia, one thing I'll miss is the food variety. The US is diverse enough where you can find food, though may not be the best quality but taste delicious to me, of many different nationalities. I LOVE Asian food, but I'm sure I'm gonna crave non-Asian food, especially my Jamaican mom's cooking lol. I'm sure I'll find some, though it's gonna be more expensive.

So what do you miss about the US? And what do you think you would miss if you haven't left yet?
@firstroundsonme4728 жыл бұрын
I haven't left yet, but I hope to travel soon. I will probably miss soul food and barbershops. LOL. What do brothers do to get decent haircuts in alot of these countries? I would also miss being around people from America, but it would be interesting to be around people from different cultural backgrounds.
@Minoritynomad8 жыл бұрын
Soul Food. Hell yes. You know the funny thing. Poor countries have VERY similar soul food. Collard greens, Chitterlings, Pigs feet, crawfish, gizzards. You can find them all over the place for the same reason they became popular in the south. Cheap. With haircuts it depends. If it's a big city then you can find a shop. Europe was easy because African immigrants have communities in most major cities. I've got African barbers in Krakow, Budapest, and Bucharest. In Asia, they've fully embraced Urban culture. These cats can cut man. I give my Thai barbers a shout out whenever I can. Tight lineups. www.neversaycutzbarber.com/ . You notice i'm bald now because I've been traveling a lot outside of major cities. But when I need my beard and moustache lined up, find the Africans. lol
@firstroundsonme4728 жыл бұрын
Man that's wassup! You just alleviated ALOT of my travel fears. LOL. One thing I've always wondered, what's the first thing you think a new traveler should do when they touch down in a foreign country? One of my biggest fears would be getting lost, especially since I only speak English. Are there specific types of landmarks or places you'd recommend visiting rather than just aimlessly wandering around?
@Minoritynomad8 жыл бұрын
The first thing you need to do in any city is find a hostel. Even if you aren't staying there. Hostels are the center of the travel universe. And as we get older we forget that. They know EVERYTHING. From the dangers of the city to the best bars. Not to mention the typical stuff like tours. The next thing, take a walking tour. Most major cities have free walking tours where you can just tip whatever you want at the end. Like these are the ones in Poland. freewalkingtour.com/ See these walking tours not only give you cool information about the city, it also gives you a brief layout. So you know where you want to come back to. And you have a local guide that can tell you everything about currency exchange, food, public transport. All of that. Honestly, I speak English, Shitty Spanish, and some Thai. I've been out here a long time and the language barrier means nothing now. Granted, it can cause some confusion but you'll be fine. Sometimes the effort is what people love. People seriously go out of their way to help out here. People are amazing all around the world.
