I like the pillow under the mattress trick! 15Yrs ago I needed a new mattress as the pain and headaches were getting worse on what I had... but I was unemployed. What I WAS able to save up for was a piece of foam. Firm, normal beige looking foam from a foam shop - not a foam mattress, that has different firmness of foam, but just once piece regular foam. I got it 6" thick and to stop sweating/let my skin breath I got a skinny memory foam topper. WOW, cheaper than a mattress!! and it worked for my knees, hips and lower back. I was 240 lbs, my heavy parts sank but were supported in the foam, and my light spots were resting on the foam with full support! The backs of my knees, back of ankles, neck were all supported laying on the foam. I got the support of lots of pillows without them, and only use pillows for when the pain is really bad. Its 15yrs later and now!, I have the sag in the foam (i am 210 lbs round fat not muscle). The pillow trick underneath the mattress is perfect!! I now have time to save for a new mattress. I will have to test a Sleepovation in a store, as I am still partial to the cheaper regular foam. Awesome trick video! And if your really poor like, try some foam. I wouldn't go less than 6" so you can sink, but not be sinking down to the bottom. Kind of floating in the middle height area of the foam.

But Brad said he does the alphabet with his feet when he is sitting on long airplane flights, so he won’t clots in the veins in his legs. We have a brand new Beauty rest firm mattress. I usually sleep on my right side. When I wake up in the morning my left hip hurts until I get moving around. It does not hurt while I'm laying down. The mattress is already sagging where we sleep and is still higher in the middle. When I sleep somewhere else, the hip doesn't hurt at all. I also have a piece of ply wood board under the mattress but that doesn't help. We paid a lot of money for this mattress to be doing this. I sleep with a pillow between my legs and that doesn't help. If I lay on my back or stomach then the hip hurts worse in the morning. Don't know what else to do. Thanks so much for your great videos.

Using pillows for knee and mid-back drives me crazy because it's hard to position them and they also tend to not stay put. However, I do find hugging a small, firm throw pillow is useful when sleeping on my side or, if on my back, using the small, firm throw pillow on my chest just under my chin. I use my firm "heart" shaped pillow from when I had by-pass heart surgery several years ago.

An air mattress is the best thing ever. Especially for hip problems. when you sleep on your side. SUPERB! BUT they only stay inflated for 2 months maximum (I tried them all). Its a bit like only a pneumatic car tyre is OK - no filler or foam works as well. I haven't tried a water bed.

Pillows between the knees feel ok at first but then are cumbersome and uncomfortable later when I want to turn to the other side to take pressure off my hips. I end up fighting the pillows. The sheet around the waist might work! I am going to try it. My biggest problem is that if I use a pillow, then my lower back hurts but I can breathe. If I get rid of the pillow, my back is fine but then my neck bugs me and I get a stuffy nose.

I got a 3 inch soft, natural latex topper. It comes in 1 inch, 2 inch or 3 inch thickness, and you can choose from 3 firmness levels: soft, medium or firm. I have fibromyalgia, myofascial pain, and arthritis in all of my joints. Laying down to sleep was always very painful. I tried so many different kinds of mattresses and just couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep, or I'd sleep for 3-4 hours and wake up pain. The latex topper has been a real game changer for me! For the first time in my life I LOVE going to bed, and I sleep a full 8 - 10 hours and wake up pain free!!! I can't recommend it enough!
