The license plate visibility and lack of mirrors are most likely the only two things that you would need to be concerned about in most states....in my humble opinion as a recently retired officer.
@sir.6369 ай бұрын
Thank you sir. Is a flush license plate illegal, if it can be seen slightly?
@SigmaSheepdog9 ай бұрын
@@sir.636 It's going to depend on the laws of your state. A kinda-storta rule of thumb would be to park your bike, walk back around 20-30 feet and see how visible the numbers/letters are. If you can clearly see the plate characters, you most likely be good to go. If your state has the small registration stickers on the plate, see if you can make out the date. Also, some states require license plate illumination, so, if you are planning on riding at night, make sure that there is a light for the plate. The bottom line is, If it is reasonably visible, chances are, you won't have a problem. But, keep in mind, there are officers out there that will stop you for stupid things like a plate that isn't displayed in accordance with the law. I used to stop people that had plates tucked way up and screwed to the inner fender, which made the plate barely visible. But, just about everything else, I didn't care.

So on his advice we started selling lighting kits that could change colors so customers could ride with amber or white lights n then change them to a different color when they got to where they were going n wanted to show off their bike.

the federal regulation on helmets only pertains to construction of helmets sold(or what conditions manufacturers need to meet to be legal). not street legality. it's a common misinterpretation of the law by police looking to ticket riders. If you are worried about not being seen these are a very good thing to keep.

I've seen some newer license plate kits that are spring loaded and set to that when airflow gets above a certain point it allows the plate to push back and up, usually around 70-80+ mph depending on the bike. Considering messing with "airflow" in that area of the bike will not slow you down at all , there really is no need to tuck it up anyways.
@nazuuldoom65273 жыл бұрын
the only two reasons i can think of are. 1 breaking the law tuck and run. 2 going to a show, tuck the plate for pictures and so on.
@jeladsnikpoh12892 жыл бұрын
Although I don't condone hiding the plate, I study engineering and aerodynamics and disagree with your airflow statement. It creates substantial drag. Unfortunately motorcycles in general are have a terrible coefficient of drag (A Hayabusa- long time the most aero bike, now beat by CBR1000RRR was similar to a full size pickup in drag coefficient). So alot more than flipping the plate would be needed to make it somewhat efficient, but a 'more legal' fender eliminator kit is a start. I ride in a tuck even at legal highway speeds, and it's pretty easy to beat the manufacture's MPG rating, but not when I'm sitting up.

On the Catalytic converter side, there was recently a supreme court case against the EPA that states they overstepped their authority by deeming cars without cats as illegal, as its a non-legislative body creating a law. So in technical terms: the ACTION of removing the cat is POTENTIALLY a federal crime, but driving around without one is legal per that decision against the EPA. Only risk you run is not passing inspection in certain states & jurisdictions

I'm hatin on your exhaust doesn't save lives comment. I was nearly getting run into daily because cars couldn't hear me. As soon as I changed to exhaust to a louder one. It didn't happen nearly as much
@jeroenvanbroekhoven73255 жыл бұрын
That's where 100% of (beginning) riders are wrong. Let me explain: You're nearly hit because you're either not seen (small profile, black clothing etc, drivers not looking) or you're driving in someone's dead spot rather than drivers "not hearing" you. Most dumb reason to get an after market exhaust ever invented. Drivers are not hearing you because they drive in a closed off vehicle with good sound-insulation. So no use at all to go for a loud exhaust. Have a nice day and ride safe! (Y)

@@youknowwhoiam1314 Not really understanding your comment about me being generalised? I ride four seasons a year (spring, summer, autumn and winter) From rain to thunderstorms, hail and snow. It's it's about your behaviour on the road, not your exhaust. I ride a motorcycle with stock exhaust and still that will not make any difference in getting noticed other than a teeny tiny bit during hot summers where more drivers have their windows down. Riding a motorcycle is 100% more paying attention and 200% more thinking ahead (anticipation). Think about what you're doing, what your position is on the road and what the other party (car, lorry etc) is going to do. Saves you a lot more near misses or accidents than just a loud exhaust, my friend! Ride safe and have a great weekend!

The helmet thing is wrong. The fact is that the helmet protuberances one is a bit of a grey area. In most US states, this rule is included in the construction and use regulations, not user regs or road use. This is dealt with in a video by the "Audit the Auditor" channel on YT. As for the rest of the world (ie; Europe); I've never heard of anyone being pulled over for having a GoPro or whatever on a bike, in some countries (Russia and places like the Philippines etc.) video recording is highly recommended to avoid insurance scammers.

I think helmet makers should be installing rear view heads up camera views so all it takes is a simple head turn to scan the entire rear terrain. Got used to looking through a helmet mounted mirror when doing bicycle touring. It was so easy to adapt to the process of monitoring what was coming up behind me to where it was second nature. Having it in a rear view helmet camera with night vision would be a game changer. I added reflective tape in distincive patterns that blend with the body lines of my bikes and helmets. The patterns I made with them leave no doubt I am a motocycle rider and bike. And not near as offensive to look at as those stupid round and rectangle reflectors.
