I have a 2017 Yamaha SR 400. This was my first motorcycle I ever owned and had been a blast for me. I have a son who is 6 and he loves taking rides with me. Living in Arizona I can ride year round and we almost never get rain where I live. My 1991 Toyota Corolla bit the dust last summer and my only vehicle for the last year has been my SR 400. Since my son is old enough to ride with me and we don’t have bad weather where I’m from I am fine having a motorcycle as my only vehicle. I pick my son up everyday from school on my motorcycle and take him everywhere else on my motorcycle. I had to adapt to not having a car but I like just having a motorcycle.

Manuel Dietz, wow that’s a short riding season. I’m so used to it being warm that I have a coat scarf and gloves on when it’s 70 degrees Fahrenheit. My family members who live in the northern states would be in a swim suit at 70 degrees F. I love Arizona because it’s dry heat and not humid. Yet still I have the AC on most of the year. Summers are very brutal here even for me. I live 7 miles from the US Mexico border in the hottest part of Arizona.

FYI for the non-electrically inclined: a portable battery in your backpack is both cheaper and will work off your bike. They hold 3-4 charges and are lightweight. A good alternative to hooking up your bike with more electrics.

For the phone charger idea, keep in mind little squids some chargers and things that hook to the battery can drain it if you don’t properly disconnect/turn off. Also, check your bikes peeps, some bikes ( like my xsr700 ) have an auxiliary port toward the front of the bike tucked away somewhere.

Throttle lock has been a great one for me. Nothing like being able to rest my throttle hand the same way I can rest my clutch hand. The cramp busters/throttle assists are nice as well, but in my opinion nothing is quite like being able to completely remove your hand from the throttle if you so desire and still be able to keep speed. I especially like the brakeaway as it is the only one that disengages both manually, or whenever the front break is applied, though it's probably the most expensive option.

For one in the colder climates (or chilly mornings to work) you don't have to spend $100s to have heated grips. I do this to all my bikes. I get the cheap grip heaters, the ones that just stick to the handlebars UNDER your grips. They have a high and low setting (I start on high then switch to low) which work very well to keep your fingers from freezing. You can get them for around $25. Use a relay to wire them so you don't mistakenly leave them on a run your battery dead.

Good video Spite. Those are all great suggestions. My '88 Katana 1100 has a Cobin seat and I have to admit it's pretty comfortable. It now also has a couple of USB ports to charge my phone and GPS, ... and because the stock mirrors suck so bad and are only good for seeing my arms and darn little else, I bought a set of bar end mirrors during the winter. I'm actually pretty happy. I just got a call from my mechanic at Cycle Tech letting me know my bike's ready to roll. Valve lash set, new chain and sprockets, and clutch with far too much drag fixed, .. as well as other normal tuneup stuff completed. Can't wait to get on and test that old Suzy in a couple more hours.

Admore LED light bar on the rear of the bike, black 3M reflective film on the back of my saddle bags for night visibility, Skene's mounted to the front of forks. #3. Inexpensive SeatConcepts seat. Not as good as a Russell or Laam, but a good 400 - 500 mile a day seat. #2. MCL (now defunct) riser plate. Moves the handlebar ends back and up a bit over an inch and a quarter. My first bike, a 2018 390 duke came with heated grips, which weren‘t even mentioned in the bike description. They are very nice sometimes, but sadly only heat your hands from the inside.

Leds generally draw less power than stock lights which is why they will trick your bike/ car into thinking you have a light out

Led light underglow stuff is great for visibility. I don't think it's as necessary for my bulbs. LED brake light with flasher built in is next on my list. I had to get a relay for my sequential turn signals anyway.

My seat concepts seat for my 300 L sucked, I had to return it. Had to pay $60 for return shipping.
