Nah, you can also get some invincibility frames my purposely hitting yourself with another item like a banana or bob-omb. The animation from those hits is a bit shorter than getting hit with a blue shell so it's a viable choice if you can't pull off any of the other seven in the short.

For those wondering, to time a mushroom blue shell dodge, try and time it with the moment the blue shell tilts downwards towards you. That's when it's trajectory is set and you suddenly speeding up can take you out of the ensuing explosion's radius.

Yes but its weird because the mushroom gives you a dodge window for the blue shell. For example you can still dodge a blue sheel even if a wall is in front of you

@Plantplustrees the only issue is that the mushroom doesn't have I frames for other forms of stun, it only works for blue shells. That's why I think it's a little weird to call it I frames because you're not invincible for anything else. But I totally agree with you, also happy new years!

I've got an 8th option: slow down, let the guy in second be in first place, let the blue shell blow them to smithereens and take back your rightful place. It's basically taken a saying I've heard literally; first is the worst, second is the best, third is the one with a hairy chest.

You can also get hit by a lightning which you need incredible luck for someone in the back to use on at the second as if both the lightning and blue shell hit you at the same time for some reason you'll be completely unaffected

if you’re talking about hitting it with the bob-omb, im pretty sure that doesn’t work, but hitting yourself can counter it by i-frames which end up being less than the shell

8. You can destroy the blue shell with a horn in any place 9. You can actually destroy it with a bomb explosion (don’t know why nobody knows this fact) 10. On some tracks you can take shortcuts and alternative paths,in which case the blue shell will go past you

I only knew the super horn option, but I once accidentaly dodged the blue shell in another way. I released my drift boost and drove over a boost panel in the perfect moment. The shell came down behind me, but didn't hit me :D

You forgot one, if you get hit by a shell or spin out to a banana and if the blue shell is right behind you, and hits you with the invincibility frames. you can dodge it that way too.

There 1 more Get hit by anything that makes you spin, banana, goombas even getting shock before the shell arrives Stunt by spinning is shorter that a hit like the shell and when timed well, you have enough invincibility frames to continue

I know this is for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but in the DSi version and Mario Kart 7, I used to make sure that the npc/player in 2nd was very close to me so that if a blue shell was coming to me, I'd back up so the person in 2nd got the shell instead of me. Worked most of the time

That's for the POW block, not the blue shell. As far as I know there's no way to dodge a blue shell in vanilla Mario Kart without using a mushroom or an invincibility item

And the best way is: NOT BEING IN 1ST AT ALL, most of the W are from people standing in 2-3-4 place with a strong item and stealing the win at the end of the race because the first place is always going to get hit by something

what i always did in mario kart 7 is if i was in first place and a blue shell was coming my way, i would backtrack and let whatever racer was in second pass in front of me. then the blue shell would hit them and i got to easily reclaim my spot.

You can also use a ground mushroom if you're lucky enough to find one, if there was a shock or from leaf piles. You still have to time driving into it but it works.

Probably the hardest way to dodge a blue shell, you can actually time a mini turbo to release as you crash into a wall. If you do this you'll bounce off of the wall and get a small boost which is just fast enough to dodge the blue shell. This might only be possible in 200cc though...

You can also use perfect timing backing up in 2nd to 4th place so that someone else can get blue shelled

Another one that requires either extreme skill or massive amounts of luck is to use a boost pad the same way as a mushroom. I've done it once and have been on a mission to recreate this ever since. It's pretty difficult but it's possible!

To dodge a blue shell with a mushroom you must time it at the moment when the shell shows you it's back. It's pretty simple, the shell flies around you a little bit then shows you it's belly and finally it's back

When the blue shell is on the ground, you can throw a red or green shell at it to dodge the blue shell. You have to time the throw right. I have only managed to do this a few times.

If you run into the cars or train on maps that have them you will have a 0.5 second spinout and then gain I-frames. When the blue shell "hits" you it will not add to you spinout time leading to a shorter spin out by hitting the car opose to letting the blue shell actually hit you

There are actually 9 Get hit by ur own banana or get hit by a bo-omb which there will be a invincibility for about a second (depending on the combo) The 9th one: Reverse into 2nd place or 3rd place before it targets you There's a extra one but it's only for 200cc pro players heres what it is: Go as fast as possible and outrun it (if you outrun it long enough it will disappear)
