What about estate planning when one adult child (of 3) has been caregiving for parents for over 15 years and is now the successor trustee and beneficiary to remaining parent with very limited assets...the house, a small checking account and a small savings account? With small estates and caregiving involved, how can an estate be equitable?

This is a very difficult situation indeed. I encourage your parents to be crystal clear in their intentions for distribution, and make sure their revocable trust is up to date. As caregiver, you might have different expectations for your inheritance than your siblings do. The more transparent and open your parents are, and the better they set expectations while they’re still alive, the better!
