I have the 7 Wood you're using here. Its a great club. My 3 hybrid is a Taylormade Sim which is excellent too. I use them both in different situations but I think I am going to start using the 7 Wood much more than I usually do. Last round I played the 7 Wood was a big winner for me. The 7 wood (for me) is so much better than a long iron or hybrid. I get the most loft and better stopping on the green. It's my 4 iron replacement so if I'm coming into the green on a long par 4, I want it to hit and stop as soon as possible, and the 7 wood works better.

Maybe use color coded balls and edit film to show where shots landed right after the fairway attempt and then again later after the rough attempt. These types of tests mean a heck of a lot more than someone testing a club inside an air conditioned room off a plastic mat on a launch monitor. All tests should be on the course like this!

Good review! I carry both a 19* 3 hybrid and a 20.5* Heaven wood. The course I play the most is tree lined on most of the fairways. I find the 3 hybrid to be much better when you need a lower launch regardless of fairway or rough. The Heaven wood plays well from the tee and from a wide open fairway as the launch is much higher and it lands softer. The distance is within 10 yard with the hybrid going slightly further if there is no significant wind.

@@bartbug1 since this was originally posted I have changed to all hybrids and no fairway woods. With hybrids the shots from the rough are no issue and fairway lies are easier to hit consistently.

I'm part of that Persimmon group online that keeps persimmon clubs relevant in today's world of golf. I have a titleist persimmon 7 wood and it's perfect for playing in the rough!! The loft hight of my shots are lower than what a titanium 7 wood would produce, but degree of the club is still 21*, making it easy to hit from the rough. It goes incredibly straight every time, and it's super easy to shape my shots. Not quite as far as my 3 hybrid, but I'll take accuracy and an easy hit over a few extra yards of distance any day. I'd recommend it to anyone!

I have a Powerbilt Citation D, 3, 4, 5 wood. The driver still does the job when playing it for fun on short par 4s. I don’t have the stones to use it on LONG par 3s. I’m determined to sneak one of the other clubs in the bag in some capacity for certain low flying situations as a temporary change of pace. My modern 3 wood becomes more irrelevant with each swing I take with my 5 and 7 wood which are the same brand/model (Cleveland Launcher XL)

I'd like to see a follow-up video on if you can make the 7wood a gamer club by eliminating the Long Left Draw (which is my problem with unadjustable hosel 5-woods). Would like to see a test of the 7wood in the Flat -1.5 lie/loft position vs Stock position (10 shots each) - and does it work - and would you trust it with water on the left of the green. The 7wood definitely has the super high stop & drop shot that the #3 hybrid does not - but if it goes Left like one did, it can be a scorecard killer. Nice video.

The best ones are the ones that work for you. Some love their hybrids, personally, I hook them off the planet. My fairway woods are a different story. 5 and 7 fly high and true. Actually looking for a decent 9 wood to replace my 4-5 iron

I'll take a wood over a hybrid at any loft, I'll take a hybrid over an iron at any loft except sand wedge. If only one of the large manufactures would make a 32 and 37 degree hard hitting fairway wood. I think they seriously underestimate how many people would play them. For how many people out there is the 5 wood the best club in the bag?

Callaway makes a 8 hybrid at 36 degrees rogue. It’s a ladies club but I love it. You can find them on eBay sometimes. I hit it like 135 and it goes high and comes down soft

Thomas Golf makes an all fairway wood (all hybrid and all chipper) bag. 12 degree 2 wood through 55 degree 25 Wood. I’ve dabbled with their 11 wood (27 degrees), but try to hit my strong lofted 7 iron (28 degrees). 5 and 7 woods can make you wonder why a 15 degree 3 wood is necessary. I’m kind of OK with irons in the loft range of mid-30s or higher. The speciality Cleveland wedges kick in at 46.

3 Hyrbid is overall better. On a day like the day you were playing, there was MINIMAL wind. a 3 Hybrid will maintain a balls course way better than a 7 wood in a breezy environment (due to the slightly lower ball flight), can also be played better out of bad lies, and is a shorter club which assist with better accuracy/ball contact

I have been going back & worth on these two clubs as well. I love my 3H, but where I play, States “Georgia” we have a lot of undulation & raised greens, so the higher ball flight of the 7w works best. It just kills me to pull ol’ trusty out of the bag.

It depends a bit on what else you have in the bag. For example, I have a 2 iron utility and a 4 iron utility, and sandwiched between them is a 7 wood. I also carry a 3 wood. So if I need to get one up in the air, I have two woods for that, and if I need to keep it low I have two utility irons. But this means I can only play three wedges, so I have 46-51-58. But I prefer having options at the top of the bag rather than the bottom.

I find that the hybrid gives me the opportunity to play long low running shots from under trees etc. Played back and swing a bit like a cricket cover drive. Tried this with a 7 wood and struggled....

Have the 3 5 7 & 9 wood from Ping G425. Love them, so easy to hit. I vary which ones I use based on where I'm playing. Dumped my hybrids and 4 & 5 irons. Best move I've made.

@@haraldversteegden2562 about 20 yards for me . I have sold my 3 & 9 as wasn't using them. I have the 5 wood lofted down to a 4 wood and the 7 wood at standard. I hit the 5 to about 190/200 and 7 to about 170/180.

Thanks for the video. I have a warrior 7 wood that I absolutely love. It ranges from 180-230 depending on the lie. I don’t have a 3 hybrid but I do carry the 5,6 hybrids. They range from 190-205, 180-200 respectively. It seems no one can answer the question for me and I can’t find it anywhere on how far should a 7 wood travel. I’ve had two major back fusion surgeries and a neck fusion so I don’t hit the ball as far any longer but because of that I’ve taken strokes off my game and being more consistent down the fairway because I don’t try to kill it because I can’t. Lol. Could you tell me what the realistic yardages are for a 7 wood and 5&6 hybrids. Also. Thanks for all your videos. They are so informative Kevin Jackson

My “performance average” is in that 205-210 range for 5 and 7 wood and your 180-230 number sounds productive and accurate if I looked at all my 7 wood swings. If I NEED that 180-190 number I’m grabbing the 7 wood over the 5 hybrid. If I’m 250+ from the green the safe play is a 5 wood from the fairway, but the 7 wood from the rough. I’m guessing you should expect 170 with 5 hybrid and 160 with 6 hybrid. “150” with a 7 iron is reasonable, but lofts are whack with irons and the internet is filled with those demanding 170+ from their “7 iron.” As long as you know what you can do with each club there is no right or wrong distance/answer.

Good stuff. You'll find as one gets older, hybrids aren't as easy to get out of the rough as "woods' are. I have a Calloway "Heavenwood" utility club. Which is a 6 wood head, 4 wood length shaft. Choke down an inch or so and it flies like a 7 wood. Need height and distance, don't choke down.

Played the 7wood in lieu of the 3H for the last three rounds where wind has been a factor. Using it c.5 times a round on my home course for second shots on Par 5’s and a couple of dogleg par 4’s. Defiantly shorter than 3 hybrid into wind but for my home course the 7 wood is the choice. Probably 3H for Links.

I stuck a women's cobra F9 superlite wood adjusted to 27 degrees (6 Iron) on a men's 7 iron shaft...you cannot believe how good it feels in your hands and how much more accurate it is over the 6 iron...so, so, much easier to swing and hit solid.

My G425 3hybrid goes 230-250 Just got a Callaway Rogue 5w to hit into par fives but the thing goes 230-260 I wish I woulda just saved the money and stuck with 3h. It’s an incredible club Fairway finder and penetrating flight. Holds greens too

A 3 wood with adjustable loft? Jack that loft up to 16 or 17 degrees, switch it back if you like lower flight better

You could drop the 3 wood and use the 5 wood adjusted to 17 degrees. If you put a 3 wood shaft in the 5 wood head you can get the best of both worlds , similar distance and easier to hit off the grass. I have done this recently to adjust gapping distances between my 5W and 7W,

Always carry a 7 wood. Will use a 4 hybrid to replace my 4 iron at times - the 7 wood goes quite a bit further than the 4 h and is a 3 iron replacement.

Buy a load of cheapish clubs. Either last years model, or 2020, 2019. Either new or 2nd hand and try them out. I carry loads of clubs i pull out to practice with. Personally unless you're in competition just carry how many you fancy. Plenty of space in cart bag. Don't get this i must carry 14 clubs on practice round for blokes who are 20 handicappers and have been playing 20 years. If its quiet on course which it is in twilight. I often knock 5 balls off a lie or off the tee with a variety of clubs.

At 18 to 20 degrees .. i have an m2 18 degree 5 wood 70 quid 2nd hand maybe hit a dozen times perfect, m6 3 19 hybrid 129 quid new, sim 2 3 19 dhy 98 2nd hand maybe hit 6 times absolutely mint, sim 2 2 udi 18 degrees 94 quid 2nd hand looks like never hit, sim 2 3 udi 20 degree .. 95 quid maybe hit 4 or 5 times mint .. that's pretty much every type of club at 18 to 20 .. I've just started in August, I've no handicap, i aim to be able to hit every club bang on before i even bother getting i handicap.

Get this. I get about the same results (score) using either. I use my 23º and 20º hybrids based upon the size of their head covers. Much smaller and fit in my bag better than my 7 and 9 woods with their head covers. I'll substitute my 7 and 9 woods usually when I can hear them whimpering in the closet because they're not used much. For me a toss up. Scientific, eh?

When I was a beginner golfer, fairway woods were much easier to hit than hybrids, you don't have to swing them very fast and there extremely large forgiving heads compared to the corresponding hybrids

I recently replaced my Mavrik 3H with a PXG 5W and am loving it. So much, that I'm just about to replace my 21deg hybrid with a PXG 7W. I think I'm just more comfy with the woods at address vs. hybrids.
