There was absolutely nothing wrong with that trailer! The driver was 100% at fault for improperly loading it. All the weight was on the tongue and none of it on the axles. I’m pretty sure that trailer isn’t even rated for 70,000 + pounds in the first place.

In my opinion, it really is the wrong trailer for the job. The trailer is probably rated for 80,000 but the problem with a centralized load like that is that proper placement means placing at the maximum stress point of the trailer, which is direct center. Moving the load back far enough to put 40,000 on the trailer axles may have worked but makes the truck want to jack-knife with very little weight on its rears. A triaxle trailer, or a shorter trailer would have been the ticket. In my opinion of course.

By 32 tons they mean 32 metric tons. A metric ton is 1000 kg or 2200 pounds, 32 metric tons is 70,400 pounds, about what was printed on the container.

He is overloaded by at least 10,000 pounds. These lithium batteries are HAZMAT and very heavy. I have transported some at 97,000 lbs. with 7-8 axles. Ridiculous weights.

When i was a kid, I used to see flat bed towing massive rocks (gold rocks). Weight in 60 to 80 tons even more. They would load only 1 rock and on the middle of rear trailer axles. Or if there were 2 small rocks, they would put 1 rock on the trailer axles, and 2nd rock on the very front of the trailer on the truck's rear axel. Once a dumb ass put the rock in the middle of trailer. It literally broke the trailer into 2 parts

I gotta say, that shit was amazing as someone who knows absolutely nothing about trucks or loading stuff. I saw that trailer and thought "man this dude is fucked, how will they ever fix this?" Made it look easy though. Very professional, good stuff.

The manufacturer states their stepdecks(depending on model) can handle 50,000lbs to 60,000lbs in a 4'ft area. This guy did something very wrong to destroy the trailer. Load positioning is my first guess. Perhaps he was driving like a maniac and going extremely fast over speedbumps and potholes. Anyone with a brain would ensure the trailer is loaded properly and drive carefully when transporting a load that is more than 70,000lbs.

Those batteries are used at solar sites to store power . The solar panels produce power during daylight and some of that power goes directly to the power grid and some of it is stored in large power cells like the one you are off loading. Most solar battery sites will have more than 100 of thoses batteries which is why you have seen so many of them on the highways

So as a Driver who drove Europe and North America a couple of Questions are popping up here 1. if the load is 70500lbs and the GVW for this tractor trailer combo is 80000lbs by law how can this be transported this way legally imo it can't. 2. as others are pointed out already the load distribution is questionable at best 3. the load securement is absolutely inadequate even if you calculate your chains with 15000lbs each in straight pull 4 chains crosswise only counts for 60000lbs and the provided anchor points on the aluminium trailers are rated 5400lbs only as are the garden variety binders

the people who loaded it onto the trailer should have put 6x6 or 4x4 every four feet to distribute the weight of the load over the whole trailer. With only 3 or 4 spacers under it, all that weight was centered over only a few places, on an aluminum trailer no less.
