There was absolutely nothing wrong with that trailer! The driver was 100% at fault for improperly loading it. All the weight was on the tongue and none of it on the axles. I’m pretty sure that trailer isn’t even rated for 70,000 + pounds in the first place.

In another comment the guys running Pepe's towing YT said that is was improperly loaded. Also tridem step decks are rated for 42,500 lbs it was overloaded by 64.71%. So failure was imminent.@@michaelgoble8200

In my opinion, it really is the wrong trailer for the job. The trailer is probably rated for 80,000 but the problem with a centralized load like that is that proper placement means placing at the maximum stress point of the trailer, which is direct center. Moving the load back far enough to put 40,000 on the trailer axles may have worked but makes the truck want to jack-knife with very little weight on its rears. A triaxle trailer, or a shorter trailer would have been the ticket. In my opinion of course.

You don’t put it directly over axles. Put it in the center of trailer maybe a smidge toward the trailer axles then the drives. Would be fine and equally distributed.

Preferred parked on exit ramp or after the exit ramp then parked on entrance ramp before entering highway. Never park on shoulder by the highway even if flat tire. Insurance will replace new tire, new rim and fender because you doing it for your own safety to away from highway's shoulder.

Almost like you need to read the distributed load capacity charts for those things... Our tridem is good for 80,000 in theory. Read the book it came with, it's actually rated for 50,000 @ 10 feet in length for that exact reason. Full weight is with even perfect distribution of weight only

Yeah, it used to be really bad on the highways and byways of California. They had a campaign that lasted for years and years - probably decades - because Caltrans workers especially were getting hit by drunk drivers so often. Not just them, but police, fire & rescue, broke down drivers. I can't imagine it's gotten any better over the last 20 years since I left that broke down state.

Seen two the last one pulled up to the fuel island next to me and didn’t even notice till I pointed it out to him both were brand new less than 3 months old . They also use them lithium batteries at transfer station to store power from wind and solar, my brother in laws company has been doing the electric work to wire them in at various locations

What's the gross weight rating of the broke trailer? If I had an All Aluminum Drop deck I'd get the 10 ft spread Tri-axle. Easier to load than a "California" sliding spread. @@jennifersprague8585 Operator of truck makes final decision if it’s a safe load or not. If the loader puts it in the wrong spot you tell them to move it. If they won’t move it reject the load. It is completely up to the operator of the truck whether or not to destroy their trailer by leaving with an unsafe load. This is how people die.

@@ronaldwoofer5024I’m not a professional driver and even I know it’s a drivers responsibility to ensure that the equipment is appropriate for the job and the centre of mass is properly positioned over the various axles. The people who helped load the equipment don’t get the fine at the weigh scales. It’s the trucking companies responsibility to safely legally transport the load from point A to B, usually how they do it isn’t a concern for the client.

You apparently don't realize the axles and tandems have a weight limit. Loading in the middle spreads the load across all the axles.

slow traffic means less lethal accidents. night time there is a higher chance of people drunk driving and going fast. people see cops and they do stupid shit so if they tried to pull them over before the wreck they could try and speed off and hit the crew on the ground. it’s just much more dangerous to shut down multiple lanes at night than in the daytime

When i was a kid, I used to see flat bed towing massive rocks (gold rocks). Weight in 60 to 80 tons even more. They would load only 1 rock and on the middle of rear trailer axles. Or if there were 2 small rocks, they would put 1 rock on the trailer axles, and 2nd rock on the very front of the trailer on the truck's rear axel. Once a dumb ass put the rock in the middle of trailer. It literally broke the trailer into 2 parts

The manufacturer states their stepdecks(depending on model) can handle 50,000lbs to 60,000lbs in a 4'ft area. This guy did something very wrong to destroy the trailer. Load positioning is my first guess. Perhaps he was driving like a maniac and going extremely fast over speedbumps and potholes. Anyone with a brain would ensure the trailer is loaded properly and drive carefully when transporting a load that is more than 70,000lbs.

Those batteries are used at solar sites to store power . The solar panels produce power during daylight and some of that power goes directly to the power grid and some of it is stored in large power cells like the one you are off loading. Most solar battery sites will have more than 100 of thoses batteries which is why you have seen so many of them on the highways

So as a Driver who drove Europe and North America a couple of Questions are popping up here 1. if the load is 70500lbs and the GVW for this tractor trailer combo is 80000lbs by law how can this be transported this way legally imo it can't. 2. as others are pointed out already the load distribution is questionable at best 3. the load securement is absolutely inadequate even if you calculate your chains with 15000lbs each in straight pull 4 chains crosswise only counts for 60000lbs and the provided anchor points on the aluminium trailers are rated 5400lbs only as are the garden variety binders

the people who loaded it onto the trailer should have put 6x6 or 4x4 every four feet to distribute the weight of the load over the whole trailer. With only 3 or 4 spacers under it, all that weight was centered over only a few places, on an aluminum trailer no less.

How does a heavy haul truck, not have everything he needs to secure a load? Back when I was doing heavy haul, I never had this issue, with not having what ever I needed
