Bob, between you and Jody I've literally taught myself to weld stick.... Now I've lost count of the projects I've done! Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy making these as much as I enjoy watching them!! I wish I lived in the USA... I would love to be a part of the college and learn to weld!

Great show. When I taught my son how to mig weld, I took out a sheet of paper and drew the small circles as well as the puddle so he knew even before he started what the weld should visually look like. In under half an hour he could weld a bead like a pro. Show these beginners visually before striking. It really helps them.

Thanks for doing real world welds. To root and hot with tig then go to 7018 is a real world everyday weld that people should be learning. When doing this at Hobart 20 years ago I thought I new more than my instructors. I decided I could skip the tig hot and 3/32'' 7018 first fill. I went straight to 1/8'' 7018. The nice root I had put in got a hole blown in it. Welding instructors have a 6th or even 7th sense for when you try stuff like that. Someone named me got a serious lecture about cutting corners and doing the job right. That has stuck with me and I earned my butt chewing. Youngster watching your instructors are not adding steps to make life slow and hard, the instructor has making you into the best welder you can be in his mind. I am sure the college pays Bob well but with his skill set he could make more money welding in the field. Bob does what he does to insure the next generation of welders are as skilled as the last. The slag don't lie. When someone can rake the slag off then give about 3 scrubs with the hand brush and the weld shines like a new dime that speaks for itself. Great arc shots. When you are getting a demo at welding school you have about 15 people all trying to get into the sweet spot to see the demo. 12,000 people already got to see from the sweet spot. I wish I knew what the dislike button crowd is looking for. 20 years ago I was paying 1000$ a month to get a demo like this every third day. Whoever dislikes this video does not know enough to know what they are throwing stones at. Bob even gets on here ans answers questions. He is giving away for free what the college charges tuition for.

Thank you Weld.com and Mr Bob Moffat because without your valuable videos discussing and showing all stick welding techniques and such like my stick welding would still look like a bird had shit on the jobs! By putting into practice your advice coupled with Jody the Weldmonger's advice I have learned to do good strong welds. Next step for this ole man is to get certified to weld before the men in white coats arrive and certify me insane!

Excuse the username, but why is so much pipe welding done with a stick instead of MIG?. I understand that TIG would be too slow for many jobs but MIG has the speed from what I can gather.
@kf85756 жыл бұрын
Sociopathic Narcissist Quality of the end result. Mig/Mag welding is much more prone to problems including porosity and lack of fusion unless conditions and settings are almost perfect. Also, mig welding need to be done indoors or with shielding from any wind so not as readily useable outdoors. Stick welding creates its own shielding
@sociopathicnarcissist88106 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your detailed reply, It never occurred to me that MIG has those constraints. Of course now you have told me, I'm feeling a bit dumb, unfortunately an increasingly common occurrence as I age.
