I am watching from Japan. I didn't know there was a right-hand drive Falcon! I love muscle cars and this Falcon is a cool car!

The XA, XB and XC were the most beautiful and stylish Falcons. You are one lucky man.

I had a XB Fairmont gs coupe. 302 4 speed single rail box. Loved that car. Sold it in 1986 for about $5k. Oh if only I had known then what I know now, it would have never left my sight.

I bought an XB coupe with the 302ci V8 for $1400 back in 1987 from a used car lot on Paramatta Rd. Loved the car, but that 302 with the 4bbl carb & auto gearbox absolutely drank fuel by the bucket loads during the city driving I was doing (wasn't quite as bad on the highway). After a few months of ownership I realised that I couldn't afford to run it (was a broke 18yo at the time) so I traded it for a 6 cyl LX Torana. God, I wish I had both those cars right now; there would be my retirement plan right there!

Awesome, thanks! I love learning about classic Aussie muscle! Here in the US, touchy, over assisted power steering was the norm for 70s Fords. So cool you got to share it with your Grandad, you made his day!
@gerrym7528 күн бұрын
The power steering here in Australia was similar, but Chrysler was the worst. My brothers 70s Chrysler coupe had the lightest power steering ever, and it wasn't speed sensitive so was just as light at 100kmh

Back in the 90s had me a sweet sweet XB GT351 4 door, 4 speed toploader, red and black with factory air con, factory power steer, factory 4V heads, factory vinyl roof, and all the Ford paperwork to go with it. Added a 750 Holly, edlebrock high-rise intake manifold, and tuned length extractors. Paid $8000, and sold it for $8500. I had no idea what it would be worth now. What a fun car it was. Also owned an XY Falcon 4wd ute. Sweet.❤ wish I had them now.

I thought you were about to cry there for a moment! Yes, a great car and it makes me happy to think back to the days when Australians churned out such top notch stuff and equally there were Australians able to buy it. I love the XA to XC series. I think the overall shape of those series was better than any other Falcon series.

So cool. And the point about not knowing how good we had it back then was spot on. As a kid in the 70s you had these, Monaros and Chargers on the roads and really didn’t think too much about it. Now it’s just boring people in boring generic EV crapboxes, ignorantly thinking they are saving the planet 🙄
@gerrym7528 күн бұрын
The GS pack was the dash and steering wheel, plus the bonnet scoops, grille with integrated driving lights, GS stripes and 12 slots wheels or some sort of "sport" wheel. The steering wheel should have a squeeze rim horn too

In the early 90s used to go to the scrapyard that was full of coupe , hard tops , and buy parts for mine , there was nothing wrong with them people just took the driveline out for another car , I pick mine up for $500 back then , the good old days

Mine was a 1975 XB GS Hardtop, in Ford 'Mulberry'. was known as the 'purple people eater'. It was stolen from Thorneside in the late 1980's. Not happy jan.

The power steered Falcons all the way through until the EA had light and vague steering that you had to chase left and right all the time. The EA had completely different front suspension and racks and pinion steering that fixed this.

Love seeing you review these old cars. It is a dream for me to drive something like this. Would love to see you review a 2002 AU T3, a manual one at that. You will be shocked. I use to own one :( I remember a guy on my street in about 2002 or so, had a XB Coupe, red with the black outs. 351, 4 speed toploader. He picked it up for 4k.......

I had a green good condition XB GS Fairmont Coupe, gussied up with silver GT striping, in the 1990's. Sold it in '98 for $2000. In hindsight that may not have been a good decision.

I grew up with Australian ford falcon although I'm a Valiant boy and must admit the seventies falcon had flair although all Ford's had extremely sensitive power steering.

100s of thousands of dollars, no, incorrect. An XB GT will go for 150k in good condition. Had one new in '76 & was a slow back then & drank fuel. Great looking car, but prone to rust, like all cars of the era. The XW & XY 351s were much faster & weren't choked with emissions, like the one you're driving.
@commodoreman128 күн бұрын
@@JohnCandy-t6i Fair enough about the value, but this one does have a 351
@JohnCandy-t6i27 күн бұрын
@@commodoreman1 I was aware of that. The XA was the last of the Aussie Built decent 351s XB 351s were subject to the new ADR27 emissions regulations & the engine was considerably down on power from its free breathing predecessors.

They were a great car when I grew up looked tough as , but were a big heavy slug that weren't the best handler's . The best rides i Remember from the late 70s and early 80s were a9x toranas, rx7, porsche carrera , vb and vc commodores vk commodore ss, xd 351 were much better cars. The old Ford coupes are a bit overrated and over priced but only us old blokes would know. Cheers.
