Yeah, I've considered that maybe it was sarcasm after watching it a couple times. However, I don't believe this is what the world needs with all the racial tension going on. They just kept talking about race the entire show. Bringing up race on everything. I feel like it kind of takes the point out of diversity when you feel like you need to point out "hey look! We nominated black people and women this year! Yay for us!" Just do it. Nominate whoever deserves it. You don't need to talk about it or brag about it or pat yourself on the back for it.

*Reads comments* Huh, it's almost like people missed the entire point of this sketch where they explicitly point out that the problem hasn't been solved, calling this the height of diversity is a very basic understanding of the concept and that they still have a long way to go... that's literally the point of the bit on the phone call with RuPaul there, how are so many commenters missing this?
@romxxii
@romxxii 3 жыл бұрын
Probably stopped watching when the song started, seeing as how it ends with Keenan literally telling the audience that it's not solved, and a song-and-dance number celebrating a "win" is like spiking the ball at the 50-yard line.

Ok so first of all, I commented about who wrote this skit, and that means I didn't ask for your opinion about my username, nor do I care about it. Second of all, I am not "telling myself" this, the facts are that Colin Jost and Michael Che (this year's hosts) wrote the script for the skits presented, work in Saturday Night Live (where they are also the head writers), they said it themselves that they were trying to do somethng similar with what they do in SNL. If you watch any of the Weekend Updates they do, you'll see that this is something very simlar to their sense of humour (which is obvious, since they were the ones who wrote it).

How is it diverse? They hate straight white men

*sigh* In which much of the comment section willfully ignore the tongue-in-cheek sarcasm in favor of getting self-righteous. The punch line here isn't "white people suck"; it's "Don't get too smug about this accomplishment because we still have a long way to go." And if this offends you more than the things Trump has said, then you were already a Trump supporter; the skit didn't turn you into one.

You understood well. The skit was a satire about how far we’re from becoming diverse and how much we like pretending that we’re cool with the idea that everyone is intellectually able no matter their ethnicity.

Good god! How is it Hollywood, media, academia don’t get that solving racism with racism isn’t going to work sociologically. It could possibly go the other way eventually. Just in time for midterms, too. Brilliant!!!

I feel so bad for for Kate and Kristen's feet. Look at those heels! I know it's to make it easier to do closeups next to Tituss and Kenan. but god damn. Just embrace the wide shot Hollywood.

I can't believe they're this stupid. I wonder if they'll get even MORE blatant than this. Is that even possible? Every time I'm proven wrong, so I believe it is possible.

It's interesting pausing and looking at the face expressions of the people in the audience. A lot of them don't seem to like what they're seeing. A lot of fake smiles. You can see it in their eyes, even a lot of the black people in the audience don't seem to like it (I think because they know it's too blatant and will cause backlash).
