Very impressive ice rated ship for conversion. Strong, ice rated hull, faster than most luxury yachts and upfitted electronics, radars, helicopters etc. I like the idea of refitting a naval or rescue ship that has stronger frame & hull. I am not that impressed w the luxury features but focus on exploration or lease to a marine research institution. This example would do the job quite well. I am guessing the hull costs about $18 million and another $28 million for the conversion. This would be an exciting project indeed.

Hull costs less and because it has modern systems and already has large interior space, the conversion could be kept under 10, easily.

The max draft (loaded) on this vessel is 3.79 meters. The OSV tend to have a deeper published draft, but remember they have loaded mud tanks and excess fuel plus ballast tanks- so they can be configured to have a reasonable draft of less than 15 feet.

What are the rules for casual crabbing? If you want to put one or two king crab or bairdi pots on a vessel like this, just for your own consumption, will the Coast Guard jump down your throat?

Government vessels usually go out on bid. This one was never delivered to the government that ordered it. The builder went bankrupt which cancelled the contract.
