This is so cool! Such a masterpiece of railfanning! I'm really interested in trains, especially monster trains, and you have satisfied me very well.

I’m very glad W871 came to Memphis TN. It’s probably the 2nd military train I’ve seen here in a month, the first one was a NS manifest with like 5 military cars in the middle.

It's always nice to catch a military train. I like to see the different loads.

Another superb video. I’ve probably said it before but there must be more military hardware on that train than the British army owns. Always makes my day when you have a new posting. Keep up the good work. All the best Mick🇬🇧

I really like the speeding ethanol train with the three colorful locomotives. That's very nice. But of course the long military train is the king of the video, which was a bit underpowered I think. I know this is a crazy idea, but it would be cool, if one day you could tour a locomotive and could show us how the cab and everything else looks like inside. I would love to see the dashboard, computers, levers and buttons. :) This is another beautiful and entertaining video, thanks for uploading it.
@mbmars015 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I agree there are several nice catches in this one. In-cab videos are not an option as they would require official permission by the railroad. There are many pictures from the inside of cabs on the internet and also here on KZbin I'd guess.

There is easily a trillion bucks on that military train. Jeez! And how heavy all those tanks and other vehicles must be! Trains are by far the dominate vehicles!

From other videos I've seen, they're shipped for whole units or divisions, all over the country for training in different conditions, climate and terrain, and back to original bases.

Have you considered doing a video of a MOW operation? I think your way of doing rail videos would work quite well with this, especially the close-up detail shots. MOW is a somewhat overlooked aspect of railroading.
@mbmars015 жыл бұрын
Well, yes, it would be interesting, but MoW is also a very time-consuming process. I don't live close to the line and typically only venture out when there's no MoW work going on, because I want to see trains :)

Great video! Question.... Does the Army own the six axle flatcars? Just curious
@mbmars015 жыл бұрын
All or almost all are owned by the Department of Defense I think.

Michael, as a model railroader i have the Micro Trains DOD flatcars set, with M1A tanks. Built by Fruit Growers Express in 1981, used by US Army, & USMC. I took pictures just before Desert Storm 1, outside Bayonne, N.J., and they carried tanks, APCs, MLRSs, and even cocooned Apaches, Cobras, Jet Rangers, and LOHs to the docks to be shipped out. There were even M1As with their tracks and wheel assemblies on separate flats right out of the factory.

@Dennis Persson I have yet to see helicopters on rail cars.

@@mbmars01 Well i haven't told many people other than family members and few fellow employees, because I was an inter-office mail and equipment courier for the federal government, North East Regional Area, at the time, and most mail was for the IRS, and FBI, So I couldn't say much to anyone, but one stop was at the FRC in the Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne, N.J. I saw the stuff on flats in the train yard on base, but took the pic's while the stuff was outside gov,t property. If i had done it inside, i probly would be enjoying free room and board at 'Club Fed' still 2day. But i Was surprised to see the heli shapes in the white plastic shrink wrap used in boatyards today. P.S., one other thing i lucked out on, was missing the truck bombing at the WTC by 10min. after i hand-delivered a fed. court case to the FBI.

OKS !!! Lots to see as you say !! Question !! The rails with the concrete ties & welded connections DON't bounce under the loads like the wood ties and spikes do ?? And DON"T see the ''Movable point frogs '' being used here ?? Quess Eastern Rails have alot of catching up to do !!HAHA Anyhows,,Great videos & "' KEEP IT SAFE ""
@mbmars015 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think this is an advantage of concrete ties, but because of this they might potentially break easier than wooden ties under heavy loads. My guess, "movable point frogs" are used in high-speed lines or, particularly, where slow yard tracks meet fast main tracks. Here on this line, max main track speeds are 40-45 mph and that doesn't qualify for special (and expensive) equipment.
