This is a description of my 72 hour Load Bearing Equipment (LBE). I use this set up from day hikes, overnights, to 72 hours, depending on the configuration. I also use this LBE system for Civil Air Patrol ground team missions. I rarely use a backpack, because I find this LBE set up easier and more versatile. It weighs around 12lbs currently and when I attach my wool blanket the weigh is around 18lbs.
The current set up consists of: Military LC2 H Harness with padded web belt, butt pack, 2-1qt canteens, 1 with canteen cup and stove, 2-200 round SAW ammo pouches, and 1-M16 ammo pouch.

Nice setup. Again, difference in what I'd carry but I have a similar harness that I call the "don't scare the people rig". For some reason, people seem to not be intimidated by revolvers and bolt actions. My belt on a similar rig carries a Ruger Security 6 .357 magnum with 6 HKS speed loaders ( all with 125 grain, regular white box Winchester JHP ammo ( same ammo, 6 rounds, in the gun ), and an old, WW2 bolt action rifle ( usually a Mosin Nagant or Springfield 1903 ) with 6 5 round stripper clips, plus a KA-BAR. Very nice when walking around the tons of woods and mountains around my house. Powerful and non-threatening to occasional hunters, fishermen, and hikers I sometimes come across ( I live very close to Great Smokies National park and Pisgah National Forest, so I've scared more than my share of father and son fishing trips, hiker groups, campers, etc....... while wearing my Spetsnaz Tactical Vest EMP in Russian Digital Flora camo, with a bunch of 30 round mags for my AKM, a pistol belt with a .45ACP Glock 21, extra mag pouches for everything, and so-on ). Our land ranges for miles of mountainous woods and I occasionally run into such people. I just tell them I'm hunting, even tho I'm under no obligation to explain myself on private land. What butt pack is that on your kit? I've rigged up something with a U.S.G.I sustainment pouch on top of back ( they hold a ton of stuff ), a Polish military bread bag or large gas mask bag, using military surplus GP straps on the sustainment pouch and using paracord to attach the roomy bread bag or gas mask bag to it, plus tabs for a Camel Back. Useful for when I don't feel like strapping on a full ruck

Liked it. ALICE is very versatile. I have 3 sets. Hiking or Camping rig brown, dominant Va mountains color. Tactical rigs: a brown season, and green season. We don’t get much snow. I run a single or double canteen if a near by water source may not be handy. I also will use a 2 and 1 quart canteen. If I bring a pack, it will have a hydration bladder. I spray painted my gear. I will be posting more vids soon.

Truly Great video, especially for a newbie like myself preparing my BOB. I purchased the ALICE pack and thought it's GREAT, but an over kill for day trips or a 72hr bag. This is a GREAT alternative to a backpack 72hr BOB . If I needed more gear I can still ad a small backpack. I see my options from ALICE for longer term to my 72hour choices. Once again, great video!!! LG

@nroc13 Yes they are in a good spot. I would keep in the molle pouches a survival kit and the other a first aid kit. Then in the butt pack put food and everything else you need.

They are designed for Gernades. One on each side of the pouch. Most people cut them off, somtimes I put paracord in there.

p/prev. post- you carry your blanket on bottom of buttpack - do the same to the top of it w/ poncho. also a utility pouch to side of the pack w/grommets, significant increase in cu. in. storage in the pack for more goodies. ( use 81mm mortar rd. transport tubes to stuff them in for watertight integrity & abrasion protection) - also an inflatable pillow is a lifesaver for comfort.

@nroc13 Ramen noodles are ok, but you have to be able to boil water for them and they dont offer much nutrition. They are better if you put other things in them and maybe for like a base camp type meal. As far as the Mres, I like the military version I think you get a little more in them, however the civilian ones are not bad either and they are sometimes cheaper.

I use several things. Iodine tablets, Katadyn Micropur tabs, my water filter, etc. I have bleach for the home use as another purification agent. However, I generally dont carry it in my kits.

@nroc13 You can attach a wool blanket to the bottom of the butt pack if you want. I usually put it through the straps of the harness sitting on top of the butt pack and attach it with belt keepers to keep the weight higher.

I dont think that CC Military has the belts and harness, however you can check. The prices will range from $15 for the belt, $8-12 for Harness, butt pack $10-15, m-16 pouches $2-5.00, SAW ammo pouches $5-15.

@djlolypop This set up probably around $100 or so WITHOUT the gear. Complete with gear you are looking at several hundred dollars. I have alot invested in my gear and I use it for different things, not just CAP. You can get a set up for much cheaper that will do the same thing though.

This is an old set up. You can find the Harness and unpadded pistol belt for around 15.00. The padded pistol belt is about 10-15 (I think) and the pouches and such are about 10-15 a piece. You can get a decent set up for about 40.00-50.00 minus gear.....
