My bad, I lost two important footages in this video, one is shifting through "P-R-N-D" several times while the vehicle stationary and the engine idling after filled all of the ATF and waiting the temp rising. Another is to replace the crush washer of the ATF pan's drain plug. I have reuploaded a new edited video at kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2e0gml7oZJ6Z80 很抱歉!我忘记了两个重要的素材,没有加进去。一个是在灌进全部变速箱油后,等待升温的过程中要换挡几次;另一个是要更换放油螺丝的密封铜垫片。我已重新编辑并上传至:kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2e0gml7oZJ6Z80

Another excellent video Senior Leigh! You made a difficult job looked so easy. You have a pretty good automotive knowledge and DIY experience with tools. I can only wish I could do some of the regular maintenance on my 2014 E350 and 2015 GL450 i.e. oil change and spark plugs. Thanks and keep posting those very informative DIY auto maintenance services.

Thank you sir, as always very well done. I've done this procedure several times and never thought to drill the housing to ease access to the torque converter plug. Others prefer to unscrew the return line and flush the trannie by changing two liters at the time. How hard was it to drill the housing? I wonder if there is any detriment on doing that. Thoughts?
@LeighSr4 жыл бұрын
Thank you and I just followed the MB WIS to guide me on the project. Before I drilled the housing I tried many methods, but not working. Because there have 4 liters of ATF in the TC, so I won't leave it. That's pretty easy to drill the housing, that's made by aluminum and soft. That won't detriment, just cosmetic issue but we can't see it until next ATF replacement 6 or 7 years later. Also, there is a rubber plug to cover it.

Do all torque converters have the drain plug? I have a 2014 ML350 V6 gas 4 matic. I turned the torque converter 2 rotations and I never saw a drain screw.

Yes, all 722.9 has the torque converter drain screw.

Quick question. Your undercarriage guards, did your most rearward one get damaged? Mines did and I'm about to just completely remove it. Ran over some debris an 18wheeler dropped on the highway. Now it looks like a shotgun blew a hole through it. Wondering if I should replace it or just leave it off. None of my other cars had this.
@LeighSr2 жыл бұрын
The bottom compartment has two purposes, buffering the shock and flat the airflow. If it damaged to not working for that, you should replace it.

@@LeighSr looking at it again, it's the driver side panel. Not sure what to call it but it has that fabric feel to it. I just used some tape to close up the opening.

Two days ago , I serviced my w211 722.9 transmission , i drained the torque converter and the pan , WIS suggests to pump 10 L , which I did , I guess my mistake was that I did not start the car after 7L I just kept pumping , so I over pressurised the system and just before I finished pumping a hissing sound came and oil spilled from somewhere , I was unable to determine the source of leak . I completed the procedure and on 45 C oil temperature I drained the excessive oil . I started the car and it ran perfectly , however today I noticed an oil stain under the car , could it be residual oil from the one that got out when I over pumped it ? And when you over pressurise the system where would the oil likely leak from ? The breather ?
@LeighSr3 жыл бұрын
The step of pumping in the ATF on the WIS is starting after pumping 6 liters, and then wait the transmission cooling down, pump the other 4 liters again. But in the summer of Southern California, that would be a longtime waiting, maybe overnight. So I decided to pumping in all of 10 liters just like you did. The leaking never occurred. The only possible of leaking may be at the gasket of ATF bottom pan. The air vent is on the top of the transmission, the ATF won’t leak out from there. I suggest you check the gasket carefully. If you find the leaking form the gasket, you have to drain out the ATF, from bottom drain and re-install the bottom pan again, and proceed pump in the ATF and correct the level.

The leak was from the pan , I think I over pressurised the pump , I was pumping really fast and that blew my pan gasket , I replaced gasket and pan screws again , seems fine now no more leaks , your video helped a lot , I did it exactly as you did following WIS as well , thx for your helpful videos sir , mission accomplished 😁
@LeighSr3 жыл бұрын
@@hamzayagan happy to hear you fixed it. In my experience, the gasket is very easy to remove when installing the pan back. I used to experienced that cause leaking.

@@LeighSr Thanks for the kind response. I also heard the aux oil pump is not suggested to be removed for draining oil of torque converter, it's said it leads to leaking issue of it. Wanna know how you look at it?
@LeighSr3 жыл бұрын
@@alvinw6777 If you do not drain the ATF of TC, there would remain 2 liters of old ATF that can not be changed. In my experience, that is a very low risk to damage the sealing ring of the aux pump. In case, you might prepare some oil-resistant O ring. I can not find the part number of the aux pump O ring, like amzn.to/3xpS4wB

Love your videos and clean garage. One of the only videos I've seen including a torque converter drain. My question is how much oil do you put in before the first start with the torque converter drained ? 5L start the motor for a minute and add another 2L ?? Then repeat ?
@LeighSr4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, and I filled the 10 liters ATF at one time instead of 6 liters + 4 liters what listed on WIS because there is no explanation the reason with the two times fill in. More detail and the documents of WIS at www.leighsr.com/atf-change-7229

BTW. I found it interesting you needed to enlarge the round access hole on your 2013. My 2010 has an oval hole with oval rubber plug, so they made it more difficult?? Don't don't like that design philosophy.... The long end of a regular allen key or a long allen socket is the only thing that fit straight in nicely.
@LeighSr4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelg6415 Yes, I consider that's a mistake of design. They just need let the access hole fit the drain plug, but they fall to align them.

@@LeighSr Job done thankyou ! I found after adding 6L or so there was a lot of backflow or so at 7.5-8L when I stopped pumping so I started the engine for about 10sec just to get some oil in the torque converter and the backflow stopped. Repeated with another 1.5L, moved through the gears, then added the rest. When I started the engine after removing the fill tube clean oil flowed out initally then had a several seconds of dirtyish oil before it was clean again so there was maybe 1/3 of a litre of old oil still in there or the transfer case. I was concerned about over filling before the oil had moved into the torque converter. Took just over 9L and I used an Icarsoft scanner to monitor the temp. Luckily it was close to 30C outside already so it only took about 15 minutes to come up to temp.
